    Beautiful work on a very sexy plane!
    My dad was nose gunner in a B-24 during World War II and second radio man.
    His plane had a mouse throwing a bomb on the nose.
    It was called Super Mouse!
    There were a lot of planes adorned with naughty nose art as well.
    I have many photographs of nose art that my dad took during the war.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  5 років тому

      That is really cool Scott. It's always fun to see comments like yours from people who have connections like this to aircraft. If I ever find the Hasegawa 1:72 B-24 for a good price, I think I'll consider making it the Supermouse. Since he was the nose gunner, I assume this was the B-24J variant?

      I’m not sure of the exact variation of the plane but I believe that he mentioned that there were twin fifties in the nose which is different that the model shown here.

      This is a B-25 Mitchell, you said B-24 Liberator.

      @scotthaddad563 5 років тому

      Wow. How could I watch this whole video and not notice that this is a B-25?
      I must be getting old not to notice the absence of two more engines and totally ignore the description.
      I just watched your video on the Lancaster at the Museum and couldn’t help but notice the similarity to the B-24.

      No worries Scott, it happens. I've been working on and off again on a few Lancaster models so stay tuned for those in the future.

    Enjoyable build vid. My primary criticism, the person at Airfix selecting the either, or horrible decal choice included paint schemes *in so many of their current kits* needs eviscerating with a saw-back bayonet. At the Eduard Profipack price point of Airfix's new tool kit range, *that* in conjunction with their still all in one plastic bag packaging dressed up in a glam but flimsy red box which doesn't transit well in an age when etail is King, no supplied perspex or wheel masks, no PE or resin extras, exacerbated by inexcusably lazy Revellesque instructions for a product produced on the cheap in India! Pass. Not when I have to buy at considerable additional expense aftermarket decals and masks to render a model I would enjoy researching and to display. Most egregious is Airfix's cheapskate exploitation with constant reissuing in 'different dresses' copying Hasegawa's limited release marketing. I'd really really really have to want a B-25 to buy Airfix's. As someone who grew up on 1/72 Airfix, I detest what the brand has since become. Although I now build predominantly 1/48, I seldom buy the brand today when Eduard, Tamiya, Hasegawa and Zvezda, the latter at a much lower price point are are so much better. When it comes to spending my $$ in the B game, I prefer the superior value of Revell's licenced dual decal version reboxings of extant Hasegawa and Eduard mould offerings to Airfix. Just not a fan in 2020.

    Stunning model.... Your eye for detail puts the rest of us to shame yet again!! :) Had a chance to buy this kit when I went to Clacton yesterday as they had it on the shelf in the hobby shop, but I ended up with the Airfix 1/48 Bolton Paul Defiant NF.I 'Night Fighter' kit instead. @rebelsatcloudnine - when I was your age there were Monogram and Revell. My brother did the WW11 bombers and fighters - I avoided the bombers as they overwhelmed me in their infinite detail. I guess a Canadian Trekker has the detachment (if one is a perfectionist then keep them away from the kits as they will go mad!) and concentration and experience and skill to go with the big birds. Monogram had accurate detail - rivets'n'stuff however Revell did planes like the Me262 and others I couldn't find in the books - they did planes that were classified at the time! Monogram's choices of planes was a laundry list of popularity - P-51, Spit, Corsair and the like and rarely an unknown craft. Revell even, decades after my modeling, made the Bob Lazar reverse engineered "Sports Model" of E.T. craft right from Bob's own drawings. To commit to such a choice was to invite shadow government investigation, I'm not making this up. MIBs visiting certain employees of Revell and the whole bit. Your B-25 is gorgeous - bound for Africa? I'm not reading the map so up close. Looks like desert camo. Aloha.

    A very nice build. Does the sac conversions stuff help with the nose weight?

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  5 років тому

      It helped a bit, it was actually more helpful to have the metal landing gear to support all the extra lead weight that I added. So I would say that it's a good value. But sadly not heavy enough to only use.

    How did you manage to keep the nose down on this kit. I built the same one (alternate markings) , filled the nose gear bay with shot, and ball bearings in the bomb-aimers crawlspace, and its still a tail sitter. Ended up with a bit of perspex rod to keep it up. Thinking about doing the Doolittle raid version, but not if i can't get it to sit.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  4 роки тому

      Yeah I crammed a lot in it, and it barely sits on it's nose. I added extra weights behind the firewalls in engine nacelles. It's very heavy, but the design of the B-25 it needs a lot of weight.

Taking the time to read the directions, patiently putting it all together and marvelling at its design. The tamiya decal advise is good for airfix decals?

      Yes it works well on all decal types, not just for Tamiya.

    great work man, my only criticism would be that where the decals cross a panel line then the panel line needs bringing out ?

    Using a brush on primer with an airbrush...
    God-damn why didnt i think of that before

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  4 роки тому

      I thin it with Vallejo thinner, it's the only one that works. It's really nice to spray, at about a 60-40 mix.

      @@rebelsatcloudnine I have a question.
      I usually do 1/48 scale airfix and eduard but i want to move onto 1/24 scale. Is is a big leap with loads of parts and fiddly detail or should i jump it

      Thank you, I treat my projects more as art than accurate historical subjects. I think that accuracy is valuable, but art is more eye catching.
