Thanks for your informative email. I ordered a Skydio 2+, it's a good thing there's a 3-5 day shipping delay. After watching several videos like yours I canceled my order.. My favorite Drone that I've owned was my Parrot Disco. That was an awesome drone. I have not found anything like it since.
I'm building up an AtomicRC Swordfish using Walksnail FPV.. but still I don't think it will come close to the Disco.
I'm a DJI guy, but I'll admit that this drone looks like one I'll be buying soon.
I share that feeling. I love my mini for all sorts of reasons. But this will honestly do 70% of my flight missions better and allow me to focus on the driving and content. The tracking automation and collision avoidance is like taking a camera man with you every time.
Especially if DJI gets thrown on the FCC's Covered List and potentially banned in the United States. Very much hope that does not happen tho.
I'm very impressed, I have a hubsan h501s x4 pro, i did a 600 meter run and no video interference, i plan on going farther one day,
Skydio might be my next quad.

Looks like a short range, "follow me" type of drone with good obstacle avoidance. Not a long range exploration type drone like the Air2 etc.

Thats the only decent "follow me type" of drone. DJI is trying to catch up but fails miserably. I wish the next model to be foldable and sub 250 grams weight - no brainer to buy then
Hey man. Great video as always. If you press and hold the button the left side of the controller, it will increase your speed. I'm not sure what Skydio actually calls this feature, but most have been calling it a 'boost' button. I hope this helps!

Beefy Beef ... I have done the same... and added the 4G lte option, and added a 7000mah battery... and bought an Insta360 OneX... (and a bebop2, to enjoy 4G when I can’t find a good landing strip for the disco)...
Because of Dustin, I moved into drone/disco hobby... ;)
And because of the quality and the honesty of his reviews, I have not been disappointed... I knew what was to be aware of, and what could be done or not...

The best I've done with Skydio 2 is about 4300 feet. Great flight and range test, well done. I'm really enjoying your Skydio 2 video's. You always do a great job on these range test. Stay safe.
This video alone, has got skydio another sale. I've been stuck between skydio and mavic air 2.. I saw how great mavic quality was and almost went for that. But I loved skydio for its obstacle avoidance. After watching this video, I seen how amazing quality its recording really is, even when it's not tracking an object. This is absolutely perfect.

So many people on here just have their heads full of Mavic Air 2. Is DJI paying them or what? There are a number of really great drones on the market, with different features. Wake up, competition is a good thing...

That was a awesome video. All the videos I have seen about the SKYDIO 2 has been about the tracking and avoidance. It was great to see how far it can fly out. 1 mile is great for as big is. I been thinking on buying one but without knowing that is the reason I have been holding up on buying one.

Not to bad, I thought the speed would be a bit faster. I think the beacon should perform better I think that’s backup for pilots yes. The clarity is good no hiccups not sure why it didn’t want to go further. You mentioned after toggling return to home you didn’t have control of camera etc. can u X out of that if need be or is it forced to return to home. Great video thanks 🤙
You can adjust the speed in settings. Yes you can cancel RTH and fly manually

It's a pity it doesn't turn round in the direction of home when in auto RTH.
Go into your settings and you can change your speed they have it at 25%

As usual, very informative and useful video... for sure, I would buy a skydio if I was into action tracking videos (it is clearly unmatched in this area), but it can also make very good HDR videos... and it will fly when DJI products won’t... (think about flawed no fly zones...).
For my needs, there is nothing better than the 4G disco and the 4G bebop2...

This drone is amazing. The range is pretty good, too bad the beacon gave up after 3000 ft. Anyway this one has unmatched tracking and avoidance by far. Thanks for this one.

It’s strength is in its tracking
So for the three mile shot use the Mavic. For the snowboarding video use the Skydio.
You right on that one, if it glitches in that open space, it won' t do well in the city with tall buildings & all kinds of electronic interference.
The selling point for me is that Skydio is made in the USA unlike DJI

Hey Dustin, when the Skydio 2 was in return home mode and you couldn't regain control, there was a red circle with a white X in the Motion Track box at the right hand top of your screen. Did you try touching that X to see if it would cancel the RTH and give you control? Also, it is great to see the mountain road again above the lavender farm. Lovin' Maui. Jess
Yes you can cancel by pressing that but I did not in this video 🍻🤙.
When will you review the evo 2
Big Island here. I've had mine for about 2 weeks but I haven't flown it yet. Great range test. I was hoping for 2 miles as most of my long destinations run about that distance. I have the beacon but not the controller. I guess I'm going to need it. I know this video is several months old. Has anything changed via updates on controlling the gimbal on the way back?
There have been a few updates but I haven't done any more range testing yet 🍻

I might have to get the new Mini 2 for my long-range stuff. Oh, are these videos straight out of the camera, or did you color grade them? They look just fine if it's unedited. I'm lazy :-) I've been trying to find a stand-alone polarizer filter for it but so far only found ND/PL.

The capabilities of this still makes it favorable, it’s not a long range drone. I imagine it would make great videos while deep sea fishing.

No, really, nice range test. Obviously less that some of the other drones in its price range, but the other drones do not do as well in obstacle avoidance. The Air 2 has a lot of this flight modes, and more I think, but this seems to be the king in knowing it’s surroundings and avoiding things.
Wish you could fly it at night and control the camera on RTH. Even stick adjustments might be needed for a quick detour on RTH.
How do you feel the controller compared to the regular DJI and the Autel controllers. Then yeah, what about the DJI smart controller.

The controller is just a re branded Parrot Anafi controller. Would be nice if SKYDIO developed their own 🍻

Something that stops me getting a skydio as a drone is the fact that it does not give you an altimiter you can use, it just gives you the altitude from launch.
In the UK we are required to NOT go about 400ft, so using that app I would never be able to tell my actual height AGL.
If they could add an update to choose AGL or difference from launch level it would change my mind some!
mechrior nothing will give you AGL... you need a map and compute AGL yourself, like when you are flying a plane (or have a gps moving map doing it for you)
AGL would be great but I haven't seen any consumer drone offer the function yet
mechrior ... anyway, in the UK you are not supposed to lose eye contact with your drone, and it is very unlikely to have the ground level changing a lot in a 200 meters radius ;)

Distance isn't why you use a Skydio. Or even for filming landscapes with a controller like you do with a DJI drone. Skydio is for tracking moving targets. At that is is the best in the world. If you want to film a subject that is moving, this is the drone you want.

Hmmm I just watched your Mavic Air 2 range test of 5 miles and 14% remaining battery several minutes ago. This is kind of mehh relatively.
Try using it an urban area. The interference will play a big factor for most scenarios.

Not that I want to pry on anyone but it would be great if the drone could fly amongst the trees when doing a range test. Flying high like this looks great and everything but to fly low also...would be nice too.
The more trees you have between the controller and drone the more you'll degrade signal immediately with any drone. Better to just use the tracking and beacon if your going to fly in the trees with this one 🍻
I can go out about 7 miles with my mini 2. That's not where this drone shine's. I've seen the videos of the follow technology and autonomy and it's really better than DJI.
No u cant 4 miles tops the battery starts dieing to get back. From factory it says 6

Yes but battery will deplete quickly fighting wind so make sure you set it to land at shore when battery is low 🍻

Skydio the best
The SKYDIO 2 is awesome, but not because of range. Anyone that needs to go more than 1 mile is nuts anyway.
It's not about the range, but the range test is an indicator of how stable the connection will be. This means that if the skydio is in congested areas with lots of interference (as opposed to this, basically perfect conditions), it will have a choppy connection and you most likely won't be able to go around objects without losing connection. If you want a drone that will have a rock solid connection in congested/high interference areas, you need something that has Ocusync
considering in the US, which Hawaii is part of, it must be in Vlos at all times. i can tell you at 1 mile you can not see the drone any longer. which means you are breaking the rules at that point anyhow. some people think VLOS means nothing in front of you to obstruct the view. No it means actually being able to physically see the Drone. So these tests he does are not legal but that is on him if he wants to try them.
It's such a shame that so many have died from flying BVLOS in conditions and locations like this (Zero actually). It's no wonder it's a blanket ban 🙄

I feel like the FAA has just put strict regulations as a "just in case" because their rules encompass both tiny, intelligent, GPS drones and large homemade gas-powered model aircraft that weight 55lbs. They definitely haven't though everything through and that's why these drones exist in kind of a gray area at the moment. I feel like it'll be more enforced and make more sense when the FAA releases regulations that are more structured like the EU with different weight classes.
@@DustinDunnill it may very well be that no one has died from BVLOS, but if all real plane pilots just said the hell with following FAA rules, because something hasnt happened then you would have planes running into each other at some point. Do i wish that they didnt have the rule VLOS, yep, but do i feel that because they do have the rule it should be followed, Yep. Only because the more that dont the more rules will come and sooner or later it wont even be worth flying them. Hence the Remote ID that may be on the horizon. This may be so that they can track drones and how far they are who knows. Just my opinion on all this i guess.

Thanks for the review, you had me realized that despite the 6 cameras, multiples sensors for safe mavigation, my mavic mini still is one step ahead of this drone, base on the area of test with minimal obstruction, when it did lost signal & I know now the reason for the beacon, that even with it, range was less than the mini, but still nice features.
Until your Mavic Mini encounters a slight breeze, or the WiFi drops out and it sails away into the distance, of course. The MM is a fine unit, but it isn’t superior to more expensive current products.
Yeah you're delusional compairing apples to oranges. No need ti explain since I doubt you'd grasp the real reason behind the Skydio 2 with AI and the Mavic Mini that doesn't have even obstacle avoidance. Range of 1 mile is more than what is needed for a tracking drone!!!
