    Morning Kelly! Van looks great! I’m so jealous. As soon as I find a 4x4 ambulance I’m gonna start my build. We do need to start a go fund me to get you a better radio, you can’t listen to the greatest band in all the land on that thing! Hey toasty, good to see you man! Nashville is such a great city, you did the right thing hanging out there. It is so amazing to see you back on trail. It is a little weird seeing you on such different terrain from Maine, but it is awesome none the less. It is almost like you started the trail again! If that dogs name isn’t Shadow, it should be! Such a good pup. I gotta admit I got a bit teary eyed when you hugged that trail sign. You are such an inspiration Kelly Hays. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well.
    -Grateful

    Congratulations on a job well done. I have not hiked the AT yet but I could just tell how emotional it was for you. I bet many experience some withdrawals after this. I agree that it is like an important chapter in your life coming to an end. You worked hard to get to there and I bet it was a new level of high. Thank you for sharing your experiences along the trail and all the great stops along the way. It sucks that your videos on the AT are over now. I really enjoyed them. I still have the remaining ones to watch but looking forward to your PCT Hike.

    I.moved away from northeast Tennessee in June of 1988 to go to work in overnitw transportation home office in Richmond,va. Man I have been gone now for 34 years. Then beautiful cherokee national forest and the Great smokey mountains are calling me to move back home to tri cities. My dad still lives just west of kingsport,tn. So I will move back home wirh him to look after dad in his golden years. He will be turning 83 in September.
    So I plan on taking uo hiking and going on many trails in the erwin,tn in unicoi county and on up in carter county where laurel falls and Watauga lake are located. Ir also doesn't get much prettier them being up in the Roan Mountain and Shady Valley areas by mountain city,tn heading towards Damascus,VA.

    First‼️
    Oh, don’t get excited…I was not first to view, nor was I first comment.
    9Lives was the first video I watched this morning. The others can wait.
    It was good to see Toasty, though you had to endure Nashville traffic to do so.
    This was a great beginning to completion and I smiled all the way through it.
    One can plainly see that Kelly is in her happy place.

    Hey Kelly, Mrs. Sunshine could pass as your body double. Looks like you had fun. And cool that you got to spend time with Toasty. Are you going to be traveling back to California again with your job? If you do, come up to Jalama beach camping park just north of Santa Barbara. I'm the head Ranger so contact me and I'll set you up with a great campsite! I look forward to seeing all your future adventures and at the end of this year I retire and I'll be doing the same thing. Traveling the USA in a fifth wheel, hiking ,backpacking and camping and making videos for youtube. Have fun girl!

    I'm going to miss your AT posts ... They were so inspiring, heartfelt, funny , spiritual, ...I could go on ...I could have hugged your entire trail family when you reached the summit of katadin .... By the way , just the other day it was minus 65 degrees when the wind chill was factored in at the weather station on top of Mt. Washington....

    I love that van! Beautiful scenery, too. You found a VORTAC on the top of that mountain…I think it may have been “Snowbird”. It sends out a signal so you can tell which radial you’re on in relation to it, as well as how far from the station you are. Best of luck to you & Sunshine!

    After living off my bicycle for months at a time, and having had the same dirt and grime experience, I imagine it must have been nice to have clean gear again! 😁

    • @johngrossbohlin7582
      @johngrossbohlin7582 2 роки тому

      @S M 7,400 miles of self supported bicycle touring, e.g., the east coast from Key West to upstate NY, the Rockies and Cascades, Erie Canalway... The gear, bicycle, and I got pretty grubby at times and having those reset opportunities where everything could be cleaned and serviced were very welcome! Kelly looked all cleaned up on this restart and I can appreciate that feeling very much!

    • @johngrossbohlin7582
      @johngrossbohlin7582 2 роки тому +1

      @S M Three trips of 2 months, 2 months and 3 1/2 months made up 7,000 of the miles. I used parts of the Transamerica Route and Louis and Clark Route in the Rockies/Cascades. On the two east coast trips I made up my own routes.

    • @johngrossbohlin7582
      @johngrossbohlin7582 2 роки тому +1

      @S M Back in 1986 while doing a 3,100+ mile bicycle trip I encountered two retired women in Poolesville, MD. They were doing a shake down trip in preparation to circumnavigate the U.S. They planned to leave from Buffalo, NY and ride counter clockwise. About 14-15 months later, while I was working at Colonial Williamsburg, VA, a couple guys stopped in the Gunsmith Shop. One was from North Carolina and the other from Texas. They asked me how I ended up working there and I told them I lined the job up while passing through on the bicycle trip. With that the guy from NC starts telling me about his friends who had just stayed with him in NC... I responded with "They started in Buffalo." The guy was floored that I had met them before they started! We long distance touring cyclists in the U.S. weren't terribly common back then so I stood a good chance of being right! 😉

She mentions Claire was getting off the trail "for a week" that was sort of the end of her tramily to that point, there's a woman and a dog in the video. I haven't really watched much except near the end and MD b/c I've been doing day hikes around there lately.

    To tell you the truth, when you first started on the trail last spring I didn't
    think you had a chance. You were way too cute and way too much of a
    girly girl and I thought you would quit after a few days. Then you got sick
    and I thought you were just making an excuse to get off the trail. Then
    you came back and I thought wow, she must be serious about this. And
    that's when I became a fan. I've been watching hiking videos for years
    and once in a while people will do that, they will fake an injury just so
    they don't have to continue. So glad you are the real thing and I really
    hope your channel continues to grow.

      I like her free and easy here. She's done the trail. I don't know why folks get hung up on purity points. I don't even care if she didn't do those 200 miles, her heart was in the right place and she missed them through no fault of her own, she certainly tread a much harder and dangerous path than most folks. I think she knows that, sure, go ahead and make the math add up fine, but this time she's free of Katahdin and can do as she wants.
