Very cool guitar. I have never bought an Epiphone due to my dislike of the headstock profile. this one has me interested for sure. 1499.00 is a bit high but not overboard in my opinion. You could buy a tribute and swap pups and etc. but then you lose the greeny mojo and plus the binding, not to mention the Epiphone Greeny looks great.
I'm quite impressed with the sound, haven't played one one, so I assume it feels as good as reviewed. However, I have the feeling this axe will be $750-1000 all day long on the used market within 2 years.
Man I’m not the type to buy expensive ass guitars . But I got the 3k greeny standard ( it’s really it’s own guitar ) and man… I’ve never had so much love for a guitar & I’ve got plenty quality axes. Shit’s lovely lol
I just don't see the value in this guitar without the Green/Moore/Hammett connection. Trad Pro V for 1799, classics for under 1500 on reverb on the demo shop, and 1799 on sale all over the place, studio with the same pups as the custom, and the tribute (RIP) the best value Gibson has put out in a long time.
@@anotherstart1based on what? Let's look at a $1000 artist model shall we? The Jared James Nichols. A single pickup p90 - $999. There is the Jerry Cantrell "Wino" at $850 - but that just has standard pickups... but let's start there. The Jerry Cantrell is $850. Does not come with original Gibson Greenybuckers. Does not have a custom headstock. And does not come with a AAA flame veneer. And does not come with switchcraft components, nor the mallory capacitors, nor the long neck tenon. I mean - I don't necessarily think it warrants a $650 premium. But saying it should be less than $1000 makes it cheaper than almost every other major artist guitar on the Epiphone brand - and yet it has more appointments. So I think it's safe to ignore your opinion on this.
@@zoeherriot based on the fact you cans get Gibson USA for just a little more. Get real wood instead of mahogany-ish mystery meat. Better wood, plek'd frets, fret nibs.... for a few hundred more. Im sure it's a fantastic guitar, but if I'm putting out 1500, I'm going Gibson USA, save up for greeny buckers if I need them. Trad Pro V has out of phase and it's 1799 right now. Just my opinion. I'm also not a fan of the modern lite, but that's a different thread.
Was looking forward to this guitar, in my mind I’d already bought it, however I was thinking £700, not the new standard of £1500 or $1900!! Think I’ll buy the pickups and refinish one of my 90’s studios.
I think the price for this is silly. I'd much rather have the prestige of an American made Fender or Gibson. Also, not even Rosewood on the Fretboard???? By the way, you guys do fantastic guitar reviews. Imo some of the best on the web. Keep it up
I am quite sure that you need to turn one of the volume controls down, to get the real Greenie sound. That will give you more volume at a little less out phasing.
No Rosewood is what is making the difference from not purchasing my fav famous LP copy. The Jimmy Page 59 tele is USA + $ 1900 on the used market $2,500 new. I've never had any non USA guitar work out if I traded in on something. All my USA I get close withing couple hundred of my cash back. My one red light .
Vintage make a killer version of this guitar that may not have the body finishing quality... but does match the sound quality of this epiphone version...
I'm not surprised. I've had a couple of VINTAGE brand guitars, they are outstanding quality for price. They come with Wilkinson parts. If that's cool, run with it. I find them to be a great mod platform, put all the good parts you want in em. Players guitars. That's what I like.
Buy a used traditional pro 3 or 4 and it’s the same price and you get split coils and push pull phase switching… which means you can turn it off if u just want the regular middle position tone
I have a traditional 4 and the out of phase option is definitely nice. And it also has the switches inside the electronics which gives you even more options. It's still one of my best sounding guitars I have, and it is easily my best playin
Because the bridge pickup location on all Epiphones is closer toward the neck than on a Gibson. It really makes a huge difference in the sound. Lot's of UA-cam videos comparing the measurements of the bridge pup location between Gibson/Epiphone.
People get so excited about the headstock---which baffles me. I have compared a picture of the Greeny headstock with the "standard" Epi Standard LP. There is very little difference apart from the Greeny being a little wider at the top. As far as the guitar itself goes I do like it it but as others have said, far too expensive. If you covet the out of phase sound, have a look at the Vintage brand who do a very good version(V100PGM model.) I have got one and the sound and playability is at least as good as any of the three Gibsons I have.
@giveaway_winner_textnow_ Hey thanks ,Im a lefty .i only have one hand so i cant convert lol,Also i have enough money to buy one if i wanted one but thank you 100% but hopefully someone who is struggling can benifit from it.Greay chanel and full respect.
Crazy price for an Chinese Epiphone, even with US pickups etc., but why did they leave the Les Paul model graphic off the headstock? Seems like a dumb move to me.
the satin finish on the EPIPHONE models always looks better to me . Big plus for the headstock . THe price sucks, but everything is more money now . thats it .
I would have to play it, the feel test. I love thick necks but can play any neck radius or thickness. The pickups sound good when I heard you play with my headphones on. I think we spend too much time criticizing to much, it all boils down to playing the dam thing lol. Do you want to spend $1500 on it or not. I’m mostly USA line of Gibson and Custom Shop but also liked Epiphones too. I’m sure you can get a 1959 release Epi and buy the Greeny Pups or if you have a boutique pick up maker you would still be ahead of the game. I would still have to play the Epi Greeny to have an option.
Epiphone was making beautiful Joe Bonamassa "signature" models with rosewood fretboards but once they saw that they were selling for more than their original price on the used market they almost doubled their prices. Some of the new models doesn't even have Burstbucker pickups and they don't have ebony or rosewood fretboards anymore either. Apart from the pickups there is nothing special about this guitar.
no offence but for 1500 you would of thought they would go to the bother of a flame maple cap instead of a veneer considering how much theyre charging for a far eastern guitar with maybe $150 worth of hardware
You'd be surprised. Even ESP on their $2k+ Eii guitars use Veneers. Ironically enough, it seems like American guitar brands typically offer lower price points for real flame maple caps compared to overseas.
You hit the nail on the head on value! Appreciate your honesty and def gives your channel more credibility than most. I got the $1200 Epiphone Bonamassa ES-335 & Adam Jones Les Paul which was stretching it but I could justify due to the upgrades. BUT, this at $1500 when the Epiphone 59 and prior high end signature models with similar features cost $1000-1200 makes no sense. They’re charging hundreds extra for the headstock shape and MOP inlays.
"They’re charging hundreds extra for the headstock shape and MOP inlays." You missed the $300 Gibson Greeny pickups and special hard case. So no, they aren't charging hundreds extra just for headstock shape and MOP inlays.
@@zoeherriot You missed the fact that all the models I mentioned, the Epiphone 59, Bonamassa ES-335, and Adam Jones Les Paul have upgraded pickups (set of bursbuckers in the 59, and Bonamassa models and Duncan Distortion bridge in the Adam Jones) and all of them have a hardshell case just like the Greeny. You could buy an Epiphone 59 for $1K (the lemon finish is on sale for $750 at GC now) sell the Burstbuckers for $100 and buy Greeny pickups for $300 and for $1200 all in have almost the same guitar save for the MOP inlays, open book headstock and maybe a one piece neck though all the Bonamassa models have a one piece neck too.
@@zoeherriot Then you misunderstood the point of my OP. Everything I stated was clear facts, specs and prices. There’s nothing special about the hard case and Greeny pickups to justify that premium. Most Epiphones in the $1000-1200 price range have some type of Gibson pickups and a hard case. Please explain why this should be $1500 and not $1200 like the rest or why this is worth $500 more than the Epiphone 59. Even the Greeny pickups aren’t worth more than any other burstbuckers as they seem to cost about the same when bought separately.
@@rocktorrocks I am not saying it’s not too expensive. You made a statement of fact. That was wrong. But at least PART of the price increase is that guitar requires custom tooling - and I suspect some of the cost is projected sales vs price. The Greeny guitar may be considered by Gibson to be a bit more niche than a normal 59. There are all sorts of reasons why this guitar could be more expensive that are not going to be obvious to you by simply doing a direct comparison and adding up the prices. I do agree, it’s a premium. The standard edition is also $1000 dearer than a normal standard. So I suspect this is a case of a genuinely more expensive guitar to make, coupled with projected sales and ability to add a premium due to it being the only way to buy an officially sanctioned Greeny replica sub $3000. They clearly think the market will pay it.
Too many other great guitars brands that are much more playable, reliable and with better features at that price. It would be a rare day that I would choose Gibson or Epiphone ever again.
Its Peter Greens guitar. It's got nothing to do with Kirk hammet. He bought it but it belonged to peter fuckin Green, legendary blues player with Fleetwood mac.
I have a vintage brand Peter green tribute that I modified with a nitro finish.. upgraded parts .. it has a rosewood fretboard .. granted the body and headstock aren’t Gibson but it’s built the same way.first less money
Regarding the price and the competition , it doesn't sound like a valid point to me "go and get this or that guitar instead".....this guitar was made for the people who would like to buy a more affordable version of the Grenny and not just any guitar in the catalogue that would be cheaper offering similar quality, that's why you can't compare it with the Gibson Tribute or any other less expensive guitar. Obviously if someone is just looking for a guitar in that range and don't care about the Grenny thing, then it's a no brainer...
There’s one value consideration that you didn’t mention: how does it compare to the Gibson USA version that costs more than twice as much? It sums to me that the only real improvements other than it being USA made are the rosewood fingerboard, maple top without veneer, and the Gibson logo on the headstock. I’m not sure that those features are worth $1,700.
Good point. It's worth it if you just have to have the Gibson name and the tone wood-controversy of the maple vs veneer/Rosewood vs Indian laurel. Otherwise, since this is the very first world-wide Epiphone to have the Gibson headstock, and the case being worth about $150-$200, it's worth $1500.
I got a full on USA Les Paul Classic used for less than this and it is hands down a better guitar in every way and has the out of phase sound down way better. Kirk is cashin in, that is about it.
I have the Gibson, it has short tenon neck, thin Satin finish, modern wiring. It's not even close to the Epiphone in "vintage" features. I rewired it and changed pickups.
This is not the guitar for you bargain hunters. This guitar has a specific niche market, and for that market this is actually a bargain. As for the guys that said the neck sounded muddy; stop listening on your android speakers. That thing sounded great through high-end earbuds.
I just can’t reconcile the price tag. It’s not worth it. I bought an S2 594 single cut for $1100. I know that’s still a deal, but that just an infinitely better instrument for the money
A maple veneer on a "mahogany" body won't add the brightness that a full cap does. It sounds like any other Epiphone to me: too dark (bridge) and wooly (neck). At this price you can land a used Gibson.
Epiphone is just creating a tier of guitars between the inspired by Gibson and actual Gibsons for people who don’t want to make that big of a jump in price to a USA Gibson. Start out on a cheap Epiphone and then move to a Inspired By then a Premium and finally an actual Gibson. We will see how it works out for them. The expensive Epiphone Bonamasa SG doesn’t seem to be doing so well.
Agreed. They're planning on rolling out more of these "Inspired by" Epiphones with the Openbook headstock. They give that treatment to a non signature LP Custom and price it correctly(say $999-1299), and it will sell like hot cakes.
Is the neck a one piece of three piece? This isn't advertised, but the Joe Bonamassa Epiphone Les Paul which sells for $800 does have a single piece and is also based on a 59' Les Paul, so I'm guessing Gibson/Epiphone would have gone the same route on this... Not much difference here except for the real maple cap and nitro finish on the Gibson branded one... Some people still care where what country the CNC machine lives that cuts the wood and where the fit and finish work is done, for $1500 difference where I get all the USA electronics in the import model, yeah I'll take the Epiphone... and just because most viewers might qualify for a loan to buy the $3100 Gibson version doesn't mean they should. That's a LOT of money for hobbyist to be dropping on any guitar. Even $1500 is a lot of money to ask, considering there are great import options around in the $800-$1000 range like the foremention Bonamassa "Lazurus" Epi.
Without the humbuckers it would be about $1,000. It also has CTS pots and Mallory (as opposed to orange drop) capacitors with ’50s wiring, a Switchcraft output jack and toggle switch. So it's understandable in today's market, artist model 'tax' and two years of extreme inflation. They still make Epiphone Les Paul options under $700 for the people crying on every post about this guitar.
They just could of NOT used kurts name & sold it cheaper, this will sell w/out paying him thus reducing the cost, because this has the Gibson headstock will make it sell w/out his name
Gibson have you forgotten what Epiphone is? It is your "value" options for those who can't afford your USA signature models. If a few months ago anyone asked if I would feel getting the USA Greenie at $2850 was a "deal" I would have laughed, seeing this well yeah. Getting the Lazarus last year and in 2018 the Slash with actual Seymour Duncans both at $899 (yes, I know they don't have the Gibson correct headstock) are echos of what Gibson has forgotten Epiphone should provide for value. Remember when the Studios and Tributes were the $800 option with case??? Yes, there is inflation and things cost more and labor and... and. Even the first 2 Adam Jones seem possible "deals" for what they are given 800 limited runs. Wake up Gibson you're Epiphone edition should be 1/3 the price of the Gibson or less.

Neck pickups muddy or need more trouble etc
Man I’m not the type to buy expensive ass guitars . But I got the 3k greeny standard ( it’s really it’s own guitar ) and man… I’ve never had so much love for a guitar & I’ve got plenty quality axes. Shit’s lovely lol
I just don't see the value in this guitar without the Green/Moore/Hammett connection. Trad Pro V for 1799, classics for under 1500 on reverb on the demo shop, and 1799 on sale all over the place, studio with the same pups as the custom, and the tribute (RIP) the best value Gibson has put out in a long time.
"I just don't see the value in this guitar without the Green/Moore/Hammett connection."
That is in fact the value. That's the point.
Absolutely agree with you 100%. It should be no more than $1000
@@anotherstart1based on what?
@@stonemad35 okay… I’m going to say this one more time. Can you buy a Greeny Gibson replica for $1500?
Was looking forward to this guitar, in my mind I’d already bought it, however I was thinking £700, not the new standard of £1500 or $1900!!
Think I’ll buy the pickups and refinish one of my 90’s studios.
I think the price for this is silly. I'd much rather have the prestige of an American made Fender or Gibson.
Also, not even Rosewood on the Fretboard????
By the way, you guys do fantastic guitar reviews. Imo some of the best on the web. Keep it up
Love the 3 screw truss rod cover
I am quite sure that you need to turn one of the volume controls down, to get the real Greenie sound. That will give you more volume at a little less out phasing.
sounds better then new custom or just rec
I have an Epiphone les Paul custom that Im going to drop these pickups into.
I just bought one for 999.00 at Guitar Center. Not a bad fiddle! Plays good and sounds good.
For that price make a Japan or Korea Gibson division forget about epiphone have epiphone only for epiphone specific models like the casino
This seems better than low end Gibsons (which are worth the money). It is very nice.
Very glad for the integrity shown here to tell the viewers the truth and then tell them the best option.
Putting pearl inlays in a laurel fingerboard is like putting diamonds in an alloy ring 😅
You make it sound great
Why are there so many of these? Holy smokes
You can get a used Gibson for around this price. How can they not use rosewood on the fingerboard? Not at this price. No way
Either Cites is still busting their balls, or greed.
They should do a Billy Gibbons model with the pinstripe ❤❤👍🏻
Did you mention your signal chain. Wonderfull tone, would like to know ?
Buy a used traditional pro 3 or 4 and it’s the same price and you get split coils and push pull phase switching… which means you can turn it off if u just want the regular middle position tone
I have a traditional 4 and the out of phase option is definitely nice. And it also has the switches inside the electronics which gives you even more options. It's still one of my best sounding guitars I have, and it is easily my best playin
how come all epiphones regardless of the pickups sound like there's a cloth over the amp?
Because the bridge pickup location on all Epiphones is closer toward the neck than on a Gibson. It really makes a huge difference in the sound. Lot's of UA-cam videos comparing the measurements of the bridge pup location between Gibson/Epiphone.
We've come a long way from "Play authentic"
What's up with the Fireburst LP Supreme hanging on the wall behind you? I'm way more interested in that.
Review on the way! Thanks for watching, yea it's a beauty
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Bring it.
Hmm I'm impressed!
You can probably find an old Japanese Epiphone with the open book headstock for way cheaper, but I'm sure Hammet fans will want this 👍
@@LarrytheMan-uc4evBut those guitars will be a lot more expensive than a used 90s MIJ Epiphone.
Cheaper yes, but not that much cheaper. They're still $1kish. Even more if you want one with nitro.
Still MUCH better guitars, though.
way too expensive for it is, Indian Laurel is fine at the regular Epiphone price points, but for this type of money I'd expect Rosewood
Agreed! Unless China is still being affected by Cites, there is no reason why this thing doesn't have rosewood...
Wonder why they still have the three screw truss Rod cover ? 🤔
Because it doesn't use a Gibson style Truss rod.
Outrageous price
in Australia it's 3k :(
I’m happy I have the Epi 59 and it didn’t cost me a this much, great video though.
@taxationistheft2.0 yeah man it’s a great guitar and a bargain when you find them used.
He definitely played the "entersandman" lick during his playing..lol. kinda snuck it in there.
Good catch 😎
You could just buy an Epiphone 59 Les Paul for $800 and then buy the greeny buckers for $300
Or buy custom hand wound pickups…
Brilliant honest review ,you obviously like it but not pushing it,well done,Honest reviews are hard to come by.
Is that an authentic, 1959 QR code, though?
Chibson here I come!!!
Nah, those are an even bigger waste of time and money.
no offence but for 1500 you would of thought they would go to the bother of a flame maple cap instead of a veneer considering how much theyre charging for a far eastern guitar with maybe $150 worth of hardware
You'd be surprised. Even ESP on their $2k+ Eii guitars use Veneers.
Ironically enough, it seems like American guitar brands typically offer lower price points for real flame maple caps compared to overseas.
Gibson Selling guitars based on a mistake... perfect symmetry. 🙃
"They’re charging hundreds extra for the headstock shape and MOP inlays."
You missed the $300 Gibson Greeny pickups and special hard case.
@@rocktorrocks No, I didn't miss that fact. I was pointing out your blatant mischaracterisation of the situation.
Mine be here today via fedex!
It's Gary Moores greeny , he had and played that guitar for many years. Kirk Hammet isn't even in the same league as Gary .
Ok this is the les paul im gonna save for the telecaster im getting is the FMT HH
1499 for an Epiphone. 😅😅😅😅
sounds great yet a little heavy in weight
The headstock it's beautiful, love it!!!
Firewood!
A maple veneer on a "mahogany" body won't add the brightness that a full cap does. It sounds like any other Epiphone to me: too dark (bridge) and wooly (neck). At this price you can land a used Gibson.
Remember-That case is worth $150-$200. So the Greeny is only worth around $1300. Love this axe! Great demo!
What is odd is trump MOP inlays when real bursts don’t have MOP
If I was going to go for an Epiphone I would go with a Epiphone Exclusive 1959 Les Paul Standard for $849.
