    Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it's no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions - Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley's mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley's main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school. -- (C) Pixar

    I thought this movie was profound. Maybe my childhood was crazy but I didn't think this little girl was going through that much. Her parents didn't divorce. That's what I thought was gonna happen. Disgust is my fave! Kids won't get it but adults will. I give it an 8.

      +scratchfg212 Umm, 100% IS the "rating", dude. If you're talking about it having an 8.7/10 as opposed to a 9/10, then you are meaning the "average rating"...which is a mere .4 difference. Also, when a movie is at 100%, nothing else really matters.

    I agree with Alonso the entire middle section with Joy and Sadness trying to find their way back completely felt like it was put in there just for the kids. It was a complete drag compared to the beginning and ending segments which were perfection.

    I wish I'd been a kid first seeing these Pixar classics. I bet when they watch them again as adults they'll see so much more. The themes of loneliness, loss, and death pervade Up, Wall-E, Toy Story 3......BUT I get Alonso's point, that Pixar always has to add the slapstick to lighten the mood. Yes, the first half of Wall-E is brilliant; second half very obvious. Same with Up. But you can't have sadness without. Joy!

    I'm curious if the movie addresses free will at all, because from the trailer, it seems to suggest there is a bit of dualism free will being assumed. Not that I expect a pixar movie to get too deep into the philosophy of free will, but it would be interesting if they actually address it.

    Does anyone have any idea what scene they were talking about where they cried hard? I cried hard in two scenes. The one where Bing Bong helped Joy when they were trying to fly. He knew by helping Riley would never see him again. And I also cried at the very end when sadness came to the control room and took over the controls and Riley broke down when she returned home from running away. Both scenes really got me. So which one do you think they were talking about?

    • @TrangNguyen-se2gw
      @TrangNguyen-se2gw 8 років тому +1

      Definitely the Bing Bong scene. It was unexpected, as Alonso said, and really gut-wrenching. This scene goes up there with the montage in Up as Pixar scenes that made me ugly cry haha

    From seeing the ads for it, there is one thing I wish was different. I wish the emotions had different designs for different people. You could keep the color schemes, but maybe if we saw Anger in Dad's head he was taller than say Fear or Joy. That'd be a clever way of saying he's more prone to anger.
    I know that'd be really hard to do, but it's a cool idea.

    • @zachheller6681
      @zachheller6681 9 років тому +5

      They did that by having different emotions be the leaders of different minds. Anger was in charge of Dad, sadness was in charge of Mom, and joy in charge of Riley. It would have been cool, but I think they found a way to still get that across.

    Alonso, the idea of the premise DID CARRY THE MOVIE if you paid more attention. I understand what you're saying, but the "journey" justifies the means to Riley's exterior situation and her internal crisis. I don't want to get into spoilers but watch it again.

    My god, it's incredible to see how much weight Matt has lost in only three years. Anyway I finally saw this movie a couple weeks ago and I was quite taken by it. I have a background in psychology and so much of what happens into the metaphorical world of Riley's mind rings completely true. Especially with the greyed out edifices of Riley's old childhood passions getting dilapidated and falling into the memory hole. That was some really profound stuff. And Joy is such a trooper, she's amazing. Although Sadness comforting the walrus creature might have been the apex of the entire movie. I like how everything she touches get contaminated. It's like that in our own lives.

    For once the stars have aligned and I think someone on What The Flick may have actually made a valid point for once. I agree with Alonzo in that I wish the movie carried itself on its subject matter rather than inventing a quest/chase adventure type story for the characters. The concept by itself I think works fine for an entire movie regardless of its originality. We could have just as easily had a whole movie about a person growing up from a baby to an adult while seeing the emotions in her head. But ya gotta have sequels bro, pumped for "Inside Out 2: Puberty Island" in five years.
    Not trying to bash the movie it was hilarious and I cried. Twice.

    • @nickymo
      @nickymo 9 років тому +1

      Jarrod Strokos I mean I can sometimes see the angle in that, a lot of times it can seem like a critic is bashing a movie when in reality they're just elaborating a lot on a few specific grievances they have and did actually like the movie overall. But I agree, with these people it almost never comes across like that. None of them seem to have consistent ideas towards movies in general and more often than not just clearly have no idea what the hell they're talking about. It's fucking strange to watch these people who are supposed to be professionals that are also the heads of other major online media sources talking out of their asses all the time when I watch plenty of other younger smarter people with fewer resources do the same thing as them much better.

      +Filip Scherhaufer it's because of the lesson behind it and the way it's represented it shows people that sadness and joy are tow sides of one coin one can't exist without the other. it doesn't matter if you don't like the character of Bing bong but more than likely you've had an imaginary friend when you were young and now that you're older you forgot about him and that's why inside out is brilliant because it makes you reflect to your own memory. I could literally spend hours talking about it and still wouldn't do it justice it truly is a genius movie. it's one of my all time favorite movie
