It is disturbing, sad and heartbreaking to watch. I can’t imagine anyone else ever being able to play this role. Jeremy Irons is so likable, then sad, then despicable, then pathetic, and yet somehow is able to redeem what you think of the character at the end. THAT is a great actor. Beautiful and hard to watch at times….
she was 14 at the time and that's how most 14 year old's tend to behave. Very excited and very high pitched. And she is not a B---- she's a lovely young woman now.
Okay, so she was in her teen around the time of filming. How was her kissing such and older man (even on screen while acting) okay? Arnt there laws against that?
It really was an extraordinarily good film. The moment it opens and Ennio Morricone’s haunting music accompanies that open plain with the flock of birds flying away and the old car swerving back and forth on the road... you immediately know you’re in for a phenomenal film.
Why does everyone think she's on cocaine? If you have ever had cocaine you'd see it's not like that. It seems to be a combination of sheer excitement and caffeine.
Anyone who thinks Irons is some kind of perve for doing this needs their head read. He's a professional actor. If anything, if he were that way inclined, do you really think he'd have taken the part? On Dominique here, I think it is more a case of nerves and being a little bit hyper.
I'm from México and I was 18 when I saw this movie for first time in 1998 and since then is in my top 5 movies of all time. For me is a master art piece.
Let put this in simple words Jeremy was superb in this role, people can experience what love at first sight looks like through his mesmerizing eyes and story telling skills ... and the fact people came in attacking this movie or his choices was only because It’s a controversial movie on a solid taboo topic that no one dared to touch or cross ... so for the audience to find excuses for his wrong doings is what the fuss was all about 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
love when he says at the end of the interview when people see the film they love the film and say what is all the fuss about. vey true. if you are open-minded enough you can handle the movie and walk away having just seen a good movie and that is all.
the way Irons describes her as if she fully understood the book at 14 and was all grown up and whatever totally smells of something Humbert would do, giving agency to the child and taking the responsiblity of himself
littlesometin she did have agency. Stop infantalizing the female sex. Only in recent times have humans started artificially extending childhood to the ridiculous age of 20. In most of human history 15 year old males and females were working and having children. The artificial extension of childhood is responsible for a huge amount of modern social problems.
14 year olds aren't children. They are developing but they aren't children. They are growing into young adults and can understand things that people wouldn't expect them to understand.
FreeRadical1015 she was 12 in the book and 14 in the movie. There is a very obvious and distinct difference between how a 12-14 year old acts and how an 18 year old behaves. And regardless of that Lolita was not being abused by a 14 year old boy, she was abused by a much older and wiser adult man.

Thank God the results of the recording live on - Dominique absolutely nailed it: Lyne & Irons positively beam from the knowledge that they have found a fabulous Lolita.
Martin Hugh Henley I don't have much to say sir because you already explained it, is true that for close minded people the movie might have 'strong content' but let's say something is it bad for an older man to fall in love with a younger one? I don't think so. I do think that this movie is a miracle, it shows that love exists even if after Lolita doesn't want to go back with him (she is pregnant and that shows that she is trying to be loyal to her man,my opinion) but they way Humbert takes care of Dolores aka Lolita is amazing. Maybe I'm wrong but those are my thoughts.
@Blueflyer18 I think she was so jittery because she was so young at te time and all the interviews were knew to her. jeremy seems calm in his interview because he had been in acting for awhile even by that point in 1997.

I think that's a little too strong, as there were many man/girl couples throughout history. Even grandparents of people I know we're composed of men in their 20s and girls of 12 or 14. It is not always such a damnable pairing as you imagine, and even when it is, anyone who struggles with it should be regarded with compassion, and anyone who has been involved can repent and experience grace.
USA will never understand art. Dominique and Irons could have dated in Austria, Germany or Portugal if the film had been made there. If it is within the law, is not considered a pathology. But in USA people have to make up ridiculous explanations. This story is about a shallow, manipulative nympho who met an emotionally underdeveloped man and they made a mess together.
@@cristianproustIt is a condition, wether you like it or not. What you called nymphomaniac and emotionally underdevelloped, has so much more to it than just that.
I suggest you read some of the great commentaries above.
btw, not only in the US. and I love this film still, but in the real life it’s wrong and should be considered a crime.
Oh, it is.
@@jules8159 As I said Dominique and Irons could have (legally)dated here, so you are wrong (not remotely a crime).
"It is a condition..". That sentence has no subject.
"I suggest you read some.." I only take suggestions from people I respect

Superb superb film in everyway but wtout J iron and D swine I doubt it all!!!I've them both!!!
🎼I never thought hyenas essential,
They're crude and unspeakably plain.
But maybe they've a glimmer of potential,
If allied to my vision and brain.🎶
🎼I know that your powers of retention,
Are as wet as a warthog's backside.
But thick as you are, pay attention!
My words are a matter of pride.🎵
🎼It's clear from your vacant expressions,
The lights are not all on upstairs.
But we're talking kings and successions,
Even YOU can't be caught unawares!🎶
🎼So prepare for a chance of a lifetime,
Be prepared for SENSATIONAL news!
A shining new era,
Is tiptoeing nearer.🎵
And where do we feature?
Just listen to teacher.🎶
I know it sounds sordid
But you'll be rewarded.
When at last I am given my dues.🎵
And injustice deliciously squared
Be prepared!🎶
🎼It's great that we'll soon be connected,
With a king who'll be all-time adored.
Of course, quid pro quo, you're expected,
To take certain duties on board.🎵
🎼The future is littered with prizes,
And though I'm the main addressee.
The point that I must emphasize is,
You won't get a SNIFF without me!!🎶
So prepare for the coup of the century,
Be prepared for the murkiest scam.🎵
Meticulous planning
Tenacity spanning.🎶
Decades of denial
Is simply why I'll,
Be king undisputed
Respected, saluted
And seen for the wonder I am!🎵
Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared,
Be prepared!🎶
Yes, our teeth and ambitions are bared,
Be prepared!🎵
Pisses me off how they call the actress Dominic and not Dominique x
Jeremy Irons looks like Hank Azaria and sounds like Alan Rickman.
WHY DOMINIQUE IS SHAKING ???
i have never in my life talked to a 14 year old who is that jittery, maybe she had too much sugar?
She was 17 at the time of the interview.
She’s cold & shivering. Notice how she pulls her sweater tighter
@@Faith-bl6tm more like nerves
Her clip is sped up,
i'm sooo confused. i did the math. & she was 17 when she did this. where this 14 keep coming from?
She was 15 while filming and 17 when it came out
14 and 15 while filming
Fantasy Love From her interviews. Listen to her tell everyone she was 14 during filming Lolita!
No she’s 14 years old in the movie because in the book she’s 12 right and in the movie they made it 14 but in real life while theyw ere filming this she was 17
@@tyunstarrr she was born in 80's. The movie was released in 1997. It takes approximately 2 years for a movie to be made. She was 14-15 when they filmed.
