Bigger engine, more standard tech, equally nice interior (actually nicer than the BMW), great chassis and handling, MUCH cheaper to service and saved $10k on the sticker price. Luxury can be defined by more than just equipment levels. I too recently had a look at the Mazda 3 A3 and 1 Series and I am sorry to say but there is a reason why the Mazda is cheaper. Yes its a good car and has excellent equipment levels which puts the Germans to shame but although being sporty it is still not as sporty to drive as the 1 Series and neither does it feel as refined or as solid on the road. That together with the attention to details with the 'small things' makes the Germans more premium or luxurious then the Mazda. Usually (not aimed at you directly) but in general most people will buy a Mazda over a BMW Merc or Audi as they cannot afford the higher price.
Very biased review. Let’s use the most basic spec Non M sport BMW and compare it to an A class with AMG Options, and the premium Sportback version of the A3. Load of crap 🙄

I own the A45 AMG Mercedes and it’s a animal and I have owned the A series 220CDI and that’s a great car too but the diesel a bit juicy l found personally and the 7 speed box isn’t as good as the BMW 8 speed so my next will probably be a BMW

Sorry. But I'm 25 and the Merc is the last one I'd choose. It's a 50 year old womans car who had to give up the C Class in the divorce. Weirdly it feels just as compromised on interior space as the 1 series, despite the fact it's FWD. So where's the benefit? It's also ugly. That gaping grille and too small headlights miles apart give it a bit of a derp look. The entire dashboard/interior feels like an afterthought as well. From the tacked on ipad screen to the controls below the air vents that look over 10 years old. Heart wants the BMW for the RWD. Head wants the Audi because it'd most likely be the most liveable and practical. The Mercedes is just a bit of this compromise in between. Not as practical as the Audi, not as involving as the BMW. Not the best at anything. Really meh.
