Eye can't do a second I .-( Problem Solved: Draw a long fringe over the other one or make it have an eyepatch yarrr. AHHH WHY ARE HUMANS SO COMPLICATED TO DRAW, why couldn't we just be circles with hands ;(
This might sound strange but what I do is look at the first eye, measure the distance and draw the second eye by looking at the first simultaneously. I draw the second eye using my peripheral vision... yep... that's weird lol, but it works for me.
Or don't draw any eyes at all, who needs eyes either way/s This is a horrible tip btw, you do need to learn to draw both eyes, this isnt a solution you are just basically throwing the problem under the carpet

My ex who passed away in 2009 at only 15 years old got me into your work through your mangas/comics. Despite being obsessed with them and loving the story and relationship of the characters similar to us in the series MikiFalls, I almost forgot about owning them completely due to a lot of life struggles over the past few years including being hit by a truck and almost dying and having to relearn how to walk, until this video popped up and now I'm getting an overwhelming sensation of nostalgia, I need to find those books now hopefully they're still around. I'm glad to see you're still making things. You're an amazing artist, please keep it up.
markcrilley thank you very much. I wish I was I'm actually just really lucky. I'm 97lbs and that's literally the only reason I didn't die l. I was hit by a truck going 56, and I fractured my pelvic bone in five spots, severely broke my femur, tailbone, pubic, and got deep bruises all over my already messed up back. (scoliosis, herniated discs, fatty tumors between two discs) so it was a real wake up call when I was alive and in excruciating pain in the trauma ward. I'm extremely fortunate I wasn't sucked under the vehicle I would likely be dead.
Mark Crilley, you truly amaze me with your drawing ability, two beautiful eyes and hair that just goes great with them, I wish I could just draw a set of eyes this good and create a character just like that
Hey Mark I ordered your entire series of Brody's Ghost yesterday and I'm supposed to get it on Thursday I can't wait to read it and I'm really excited. I love your videos and your drawings and I hope to be as good as you someday :)!
Mark, is there anyway you could do a tutorial on stippling? I'm a big fan of this particular art style and would like to further better myself at it. I'm such a huge fan of yours and you have shown me quite a bit of different techniques that I find myself doing.
Thank you so much mark. I also ask if you could do a video on layering color using prismacolor colored pencils because I seem to be struggling with knowing which colors work well with each other (like different skin tones, hair, and clothing). But I do have a question: How can someone who draws by what they see (visual drawers) become a drawer who can draw what they have in mind (drawing without visual aid)?
I love how people put their hearts into artwork, it really brings it to live while its flooded with emotion and later to pass it on for the others to enjoy
Your videos have inspired me beyond belief to continue my favorite hobby of drawing, and learning how to draw better. I just got my first cheap drawing tablet, and have begun learning how to draw on the computer. And it has been a lot of fun! I hope to learn more from your videos, and someday turn my hobby into a possible career (even though I have been told that artists starve, and all of the other wonderful snarky nonsense to try and crush my dreams). Thank you so much for these videos!
Best vid ever, So many people have a hard time this! All your vids are just the best but this one tops it because of how helpful it is and how much it has beem needed for so long but no one has covered it yet. Thank you :D
Mark, you’ve truly inspired me as an artist. I bought one of you how to draw manga books when I was nine. Now at sixteen, I’ve gone on a long art journey. And it’s all because of you. Now I animate, and want to animate Children’s TV shows. Thank you for all of your help.
I'm happy you did a video on this since the eyes along with hair are the hardest parts for me. Also, I just wanted to thank you for all of the videos that you do because without them I would have given up on drawing. Thank you for inspiring me!!
You sir are a true master of the pencil. I have given up on paper drawing because of this issue and upgraded (or downgraded in some sense) to digital drawing. I still have the eye issue but its 100 times easier when you can just copy paste and trace over. Your voice is also very soothing and with your subtle humor, you have earned a sub. I will be take a peek at your other videos and testing out your techniques. Thank you!
Mark, I think the issue is more (or more frequently) of trying to make both eyes in a 3/4 view, because they will not be mirror images of one another. Or at least that's the problem I usually face. If you want to use that as a suggestion for *next friday*'s video.................... I'd appreciate that. :P
I love to see people who have art styles that don't seem to fit them, as you do. I guess manga and anime are things that are looked at as a "young person" thing, like for someone under 30. It's great to see people like you who are breaking those rules with your manga-like style:) people often say I have quite an "older" way of drawing, as I am mostly interested in more realistic looking drawings as it's just my style. Thanks for breaking society's rules with meXD
Woah. This is the first of your videos I have watched in a little over a year now, and my god, I have no idea why I stopped watching. Your videos are so helpful. Happy to say I've re-subscribed.
Great vid! I hope you make a part two of this where the character being drawn isn't facing straight at you.. It's really hard for me when i draw someone looking from the side bc the eye thats further away looks weird and the eyes dont look like theyre looking at the same point.
I had a self-portrait thing I had to do for my advanced art class, I drew the first eye before winter break and just finished the second eye. This helped my "artist block", if that's what you want to call it, kind of fade. Thanks.
Eyes aren't perfect, so why do they need to be exactly the same? i mean i used to have this problem up until i just started to accept that not all pairs of eyes are perfect.
I think the drawing problem people have is not that the eyes end up being slightly different, but rather that they are drastically different. My video is designed to help them.
My problem is that one is closer to the nose than the other and then when I take a picture and flip it in MS Paint, it's stupidly obvious and frustrates me so bad I just want to erase the entire thing.
Drawing the other eye has been really hard because I always complete the first eye before starting on the next one. I didn't even think about doing them at the same time until you mentioned it, but this is so helpful!! Thanks mark 😁
I think the second eye is lower and less sharp then the first. Feels like she is melting, its creeping me out. I guess drawing it digital is better. you can just copy it and if you need to make it different you can use the copy at lower opacity as a guide line.
Hey Mark. I don't know if you'll see this, but I just wanted to put something out there for you. I've been watching your videos since I was around 9 or 10. I'm 16 now, and I must say, I have improved quite a bit, and I owe a lot of that to you. Watching your tutorials helped me draw animals a lot. And some other things as well. So thanks, and I can't wait to see where I end up in the art world in a few years. And I can't wait to see your improvement either. :)
(On a separate note, Mark, people love these videos because we love to see an artist in action. Less for a tutorial purpose, so make as many tutorials about drawing eyes as you want xD)
She's quite striking, but... Eye anatomy dictates that I point out one tiny flaw, Mark. The first eye's iris is not positioned perfectly in the center of the open eyelids. The way you drew it, it's turned ever-so-slightly to camera right. The "other" eye should have had the iris matching that positioning as well. As it stands right now, she looks a little cross-eyed. I noticed you made the "other" iris slightly lighter than the first. One can only assume that you did this to compensate for the direction of the ambient lighting. That little touch of lighter shade of grey helps deviate the viewer's eye just a scootch so as to not focus so ardently on her cross-eyedness. (To quote you, "Is that even a word?")
Just popped by to say I used to watch your videos a lot when I was muuuuch younger, and wanted to add that you really gave a lot that helped me learn and practice better to be the artist I am today. I'm so happy to still see you sharing videos, sharing your amazing knowledge with the world, I really admire that. Keep on keeping on! ;v;
Actually, metric system IS the ruler of the world. There are very few places where it is not used. upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ab/Metric_system_adoption_map.svg/350px-Metric_system_adoption_map.svg.png
Which means it's not the ruler of the world, as there are places in the world where it's not used. Besides that, you have no concept of a pun style joke. Try growing a sense of humour.
That is a great way of learning how to draw the second eye. Thank you for posting this video, although there is an easier way of doing this as well. After drawing the first eye, you can either use tracing paper, or fold the paper in half and use your pencil to also trace or shade the drawing of the first eye so that it will be equal to it.
That was really Cool thank you for sharing all the Different tips and tricks to drawing. I'm a Self-taught Artist and getting to see the different things you do in terms of details Makes me think about things I wouldn't normally think about. I Got to see the Girl on the scooter that you had penned in, and I was able to see the Extra Lines in her jeans, and extra details you had put into her knuckles and just all the extra details I just wouldn't have thought of. So thank you very much, your videos are defiantly going to be a ton of help in the future. :)
This is a really tedious way of doing this. I would recommend lightly roughing out both eyes and even draw a 3rd rough eye circle in the center to get the distance right.
Hey man, I absolutely love your videos, they have helped to really focus on details and how to get the image in my head onto paper. Thanks for the help, and I look forward to your next vids!
Ahhhh yes. The second eye. Also known as the "other" eye. My arch-nemesis.

I think the drawing problem people have is not that the eyes end up being slightly different, but rather that they are drastically different. My video is designed to help them.
Gray :2 YOI
My problem is that one is closer to the nose than the other and then when I take a picture and flip it in MS Paint, it's stupidly obvious and frustrates me so bad I just want to erase the entire thing.
Thank god im digital.
All hail the copy paste flip.
*copy, paste, flip, and edit slightly, because perfect symmetry looks weird
Skele Art omG iKr
Digital makes life so much easier 😭
This is one time Watercolors are godly. Paint eye (or full-half face) wet, fold, and Viola! Detail your physical copy-paste!
I do that on flipa clip and even have a tutorial!!
YES. I never knew this existed! This was on my recommendations! I needed this so much....
CELESTIC FORCE no
Drawing the other eye has been really hard because I always complete the first eye before starting on the next one. I didn't even think about doing them at the same time until you mentioned it, but this is so helpful!! Thanks mark 😁
I love how you end your videos, it's such a trademark way of ending things in Crilley style :D
I loved Brodys ghost is the best book EVER!
Thank you so much! ^_^
+markcrilley I REALLY MEAN IT ITS THE BEST EVER
Ahh.. Second eye... We meet again. BUT THIS TIME I HAVE THE UPPEER HAND. MUAHAHAHAHAHA. pun intended.
I think the second eye is lower and less sharp then the first. Feels like she is melting, its creeping me out.
I guess drawing it digital is better. you can just copy it and if you need to make it different you can use the copy at lower opacity as a guide line.
Creeping Lord Cthulhu himself? That's a feat!
Cthulhu ye but digital is expensive, I cant afford the tablet and a laptop or computer
digital is less impressive though. (and traditional art is also more valuable)
Cthulhu it would only work if the character looks straight onto you
Cthulhu well in real life there are some imperfections in the face

Duuude I watched your videos when you were starting out and you've improved a lot! Kudos, dude!
Just popped by to say I used to watch your videos a lot when I was muuuuch younger, and wanted to add that you really gave a lot that helped me learn and practice better to be the artist I am today. I'm so happy to still see you sharing videos, sharing your amazing knowledge with the world, I really admire that. Keep on keeping on! ;v;
inches are stupid centimeters ftw
Your elitist, pretentious metric system, will never be the ruler of the world.
Actually, metric system IS the ruler of the world. There are very few places where it is not used.

inches are bae, srsly they r a gift from heaven
Which means it's not the ruler of the world, as there are places in the world where it's not used.
Besides that, you have no concept of a pun style joke. Try growing a sense of humour.
Lerbyn Whatever helps you draw the "other" eye. Use cubits if that's what it takes.
👌

MAARK !!!THIS IS SUCH A GOOD VIDEO IDEA BECAUSE I ALWAYS STRUGGLE WITH THIS!!!
Why I can't see emoticons in my youtube?
I love yoooou Mark ;_;... Make a new book I can buy TwT
That was very helpful! Thank you! Your sense of humor is really refreshing too!
Ah, thank you for this. Now I can quit drawing bangs on everyone.
Oh my god i'm so stupid. After like 2 months I just realized I just bought your Mastering Manga 3 book
Thank you for supporting me!
True that book was circulating round my school for a long time
Eye found this very helpful! Thank you for sharing :)
Tramikins ur comment is like... not funny at all
Edit: sorry
I love your art tutorials so much. they've really helped me with my art.
Challenge: Draw a picture of Trump using only the pastelly texture of puffy Cheetos.
Mission accepted!!!

So how did it go?
I like how u draw your eye! ;)
This is a really tedious way of doing this. I would recommend lightly roughing out both eyes and even draw a 3rd rough eye circle in the center to get the distance right.
The approach I use in all my other videos on this topic :)
Hey man, I absolutely love your videos, they have helped to really focus on details and how to get the image in my head onto paper. Thanks for the help, and I look forward to your next vids!
You dont stop amazing me!!!! I love your videos and hope one day i can draw just as good or even better! Such an amazing job!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
