You were the one that turned me onto Freddie's Straight Life'. I remember you telling me that it had a funk vibe to it. The lineup alone is totally killer. Fantastic stuff Fred. Going to pick up some more Dolphy soon. Have a super week~ Rob/Boston
Thanks for the shout out, Fred! Was wondering why I was getting some subscriber notifications 😂. Your vids have inspired me for years now. Hard to believe how quickly time has passed. Never fails that I’ll get turned onto something you show that has heretofore alluded me. Look forward to getting together on another stream at some point.
Thank you so much for the shout & link! Greatly appreciated. Love learning a bit more about your classical releases. It' s a category I lack a full understanding. The Shura Cherkassky is now on my must own list. Btw, Faust-in-the-head is indeed a great channel. His knowledge and passion for music make the channel a must watch. Oh...another album that caught my eye was Jerusalem by Gebru. I have seen the sleeve before but your description forced me to give the album a listen on-line. Well...there another release a gotta have. Merci. Shawn
Fascinating stuff, Fred…so many records I’m sure I will never see, but a few I know well and love, like that masterpiece by Dolphy and the classic Popol Vuh. Thank you for sharing these!
Hi Fred. I have the double LP Jazzman Best of Jef Gilson, but I haven't listened to any of the Malagasy records. I should keep an eye out for them. I am also interested in the Joshua Moshe album. I have a JK Group album, and I heard about his battle with cancer. And I picked up the 'With the Birds' LP from Alley tunes - another one recommended to me by Max. I haven't listened to it yet, apart from a little bit of it in the store - which obviously sounded good enough to me to buy it. Thanks for another interesting and inspiring video. - Oh, and I am enjoying the 'It's Another World Record' book.
Thanks Jeff, glad you were not disappointed by the book. It's a stunning read. Post is an excellent album and I'm not surprised the guys at Alley Tunes recommended it. The Joshua Moshe LP is pure class. Thanks for stopping by!
Nice one Fred. I appreciate that you talk Classical event though you know it's a hard sell for some people. It's difficult for me but I like hearing about it, and a lot of the album design is beautiful mid-century stuff. I appreciate the individuals in this community, not cookie cutters just showing Blue Notes. Always a pleasure.
Really nice to shout out brandon..great person who loves great music ❤. My favorite mickey tucker lp that I had was mister mysterious on muse one of the muse titles that remains cheap..excellent post- bop stuff..those Japanese denon lp's have such great sound. I love that musik for vina actually that whole museum series is excellent all high quality like ocora etc..I have several of them. I really like the rypdal/darling lp on ecm I played that not to long ago..I never see gallery which is odd considering how often I see ecm in general..I think of carm with that one not doubt probably a favorite of his though he is an ecm junkie in general 😂..really nice that you always give the local shops and artists some shine I know it is appreciated by the shops there at least.. An og rainbow generator has always been a pipe dream for me 😂..it also reminds me of the Canadian band melodic energy commission a bit..glad it got reissued for more people to experience..much love chris
Hey brother Chris, thanks for the comment. I need to hear that Rypdal/Darling. I love both of those players. The solo cello by D.Darling is stunning. Carm is indeed an ECM junkie. In fact he is the human embodiment of an ECM record 😂.
A very diverse selection as usual ... This Kali Malone is very good, I also know Oren Ambarchi and that's all for the Ambient part ☺ It's nice to see some classical music on YT !
So, the first thing I did was find the Smetana Quartet from 1976-1985 starting with the Beethoven #7 and I bought the complete set on CD. At least it was on sale. As you said, Fred, the performance is 10 out of 10 for interpretation and technique, unsurpassed.
I need the Malgasy, so cool and unique. And the Musik for Vina I really to want to bring that home. But is it for the Veena, different spelling? I just find anything with veena on it to be sublime.
Vina = veena, German spelling of the word. Beautiful stuff. There's a recently released album of Vina music which I'll try to get in Europe. I think you'd dig it. www.discogs.com/release/28563688-Madhuvanti-Pal-The-Holy-Mother-Madhuvanti-Pal-Plays-The-Rudra-Veena
Thanks for recommending that ECM Gallery - Egret. I have been enjoying it a lot and I will try to return the favor by recommending Scriabin. I have been rediscovering this relatively unknown Russian composer. Do you know his work? What a composer! Why is this level of musical genius not better known? I listening to his etudes recently, wow... Anyway, always great to see your videos. I have learned so much from you over the years, thanks !
I have a couple of Scriabin releases such as the fantastic renditions by Glenn Gould and another one (www.discogs.com/release/3282865-Alexander-Skrjabin-Piano-Sonatas-Nos-4-10-No-7-White-Mass-No9-Black-Mass) which is totally delightful, but I need to explore him more. Thanks for the reminder!
Fred, thanks for giving Brandon's channel a little push! Mickey Tucker played on some 1970's era, Rahsaan Roland Kirk albums. David Darling's solo cello recording, ''The Tao Of The Cello'' is a rewarding listen. He takes Lao Tzu quotes as inspiration, and comes up with amazing results. Regine Crespin sings some wonderful Satie tunes with just piano accompaniment, she also includes songs by Ravel. Satie wrote a small number of chamber works as well as his well-known solo piano compositions, maybe pieces for ballet or theater.
I need to hear that David Darling record. I'm sure it would be right up my alley. I'm aware that Satie branched out a bit, but most is piano indeed. Thanks Michael!
I would maybe go for Santilli just based on your description, great stimulation to go for labels and artist locally and surprise oneself. Actually have found couple of nice records here, not far away from Santilli in fact, comically. Cheers.
Local artists are the way to go for me, as our scene is so thriving. Santilli is an excellent musician and the label Mad Habitat, whilst small, releases some nice things.
Hey Fred. Nice you have stopped self deprecating at start of your videos 😐 we now enter a post ironic phase. Arsenal in a bit of a mess with injures now even with an international break not good. Just to say a lovely ramble through lots of things thanks now I have nothing particularly intelligent to say just a hello. Martin.
We're still doing OK methinks. Injuries, everyone has them. It's a long season. We'll see what happens. My tip is for Liverpool to win the EPL anyway. They have a more balanced and more ruthless approach.

Yep, killer line up, no question!

Me too man, we should organise one soon. I loved chatting. Glad you got some subs.
Man you always give me so much new stuff to explore and sunk my teeth into. I greatly appreciate that and long may you continue!
Appreciate your feedback! Thanks a lot.

It's alright Shawn, I'm glad you appreciated the shout-out. Maybe more people check you out. The Gebru records are to die for. Don't hesitate!

I'm glad you found something to enjoy Michael!
I don't know much about classical music but do have a few classical records. Really enjoyed watching and hearing your take on the albums. Thank you.
I'm glad you enjoy the videos, means a lot to me.
Hi I saw you over at Stunty's channel, Great channel I subbed you.

Hi Fred, I've been watching some of your Livestreams with other channels. I'm enjoying them very much.
I am not a regular practitioner of the live streaming arts, but I appreciate your feedback
Good morning Fred. Just tuning in. Thanks for the links. I subbed Shawn's channel. But the other channel did not come up?

I always represent classical music on this channel. I think it's important that people explore it. Merci!

Yep amazingly competent and touching interpretations. Smetana rules indeed!
