    Driving a slow car fast is how you build and demonstrate driver skill. First mod is always the driver mod. It's not about hp it's about learning how to take lines, when/how to roll into the brakes/throttle, when to shift or hold gear, finding the limits, and getting comfortable. - Also, It's a good platform to learn on since it's not enough power to get into trouble and it's inherently forgiving.

    • @BlueRice
      @BlueRice 4 роки тому +12

      perfectly said. when it comes to learning about driving and tuning it all start from stock and low hp cars. you learn the car character as well as lines and master those smooth heel toe down shift. upgrade power and and tuning suspension slowly as you progress with driver experience. thats how you master driving and understand what part of suspension to tune on each track you drive. you well also know how much max hp a car will maximize on each track too. then when you race for pinks xD

      I completely agree, Civics are perfect learning platforms for both driving and building. If you take it to its limit and something breaks, it's usually a pretty cheap fix compared to most cars so it doesn't scare you away from pushing it hard. Then if you ever want to increase the power, Honda's engines can take it in stride. There are even videos from the Nurburgring where Hondas with around 200hp beat Porsches and BMWs, all due to the good ole driver mod. It certainly pays off to learn in a low HP Honda.

      @@ben-7403 Well, keep in mind, Hondas aren't race cars and in order to get racecar like performance you have to put in a lot more than you would with other platforms. They are a good starting point option but there's many good reasons people "grow up" and switch as their skill/budget allows. The lightweight 5G and earlier models do offer a lot for learning though and the low budget makes them accessible which by itself can be a huge thing.

    Just a little pointer. When the back steps out at corner exit don't get off the throttle, you'll just unload the rear more. Stay on the throttle and steer where you want to go. FWD will pull you out of it.

    I dont see how this question is even being asked. any car is fun at the track. you dont have to own a m3, s2000 or dedicated track car to be an enthusiast. Everyones situation is different. Some people only have 1 car and the camry or ford fusion is the car they can afford and is required for their family. Anyone making fun of you pulling up to the track in what ever car it may be is either ignorant or too young and stupid to realize that not every one has the luxury to spend endless amounts of money for their hobby. Best part about going to the track is talking to other people and learning how to take lines in different set ups. each and every car how ever it is set up requires to be driven differently. true enthusiasts would be passionate about learning and sharing their knowledge with other enthusiasts.

    It weighs as much as a thimble, has a super short wheelbase (twitchier, more responsive), and only really needs good tires to get major results. If I had the space, by gum I'd get one to start getting results at the track I go to.

    I'm 100% biased, but all CRXs are fun, just the way they rolled out of the factory. You have to make the distinction between "fun" and "fast"- they can be the same thing, but they aren't always- but in terms of "fun," my '87 DX was the funnest car I've ever driven. I've had second gens too, but she was "the one". And yes I know DX wasn't an official factory designation for the CRX in 1987. Thanks. I just mean, "not the Si, and not the HF." Anyway, what makes the CRX awesome isn't how fast you can go, Honda made a lot of cars that are faster, and Hondas aren't super fast cars anyway, no matter what you do to them. What makes a CRX awesome is how fast you can be going through a 70-75 degree corner before it even occurs to you that you should have your foot near the brake!

    I have a crx with the D16A9 with 130 HP. It's a beautiful piece of art!!
    One question to everyone in this video, anyone knows if the 130HP version is VTEC? no joking, i can't find info and Wikipedia says that no, but i've seen so many people selling this version and saying that is VTEC. #CRX4LIFE

      It can be although the VTEC heads are becoming diamonds by now, everyone has either run through them or they're in storage not for sale. Same with the A6 VTEC heads in the States. Good luck figuring it out.

    I plan to rebuild the suspension on my 02 civic I actually enjoy the handling characteristics it has. I have a staggered wheel setup front 205 40 17 rear 205 50 17 it helps load the front a bit more but also adds a bit of oversteer hints. I found 32psi front and 36psi rear and I cannot generally kick the back out unless I'm really trying and have full grip in the front when cornering. I was wondering is a sub $600 coilover with dampener adjustment better or worse than a strut setup with 2 inch lowering springs. Also very interested in doing an eibach sway bar kit

    • @GarageBuiltHondas
      @GarageBuiltHondas  4 роки тому +2

      I don't think lowering springs are superior for better handling. They are softer and more comfy but I prefer coilovers with adjustability and a stiffer spring.

    Spun out like that racing a Miata, clipped a pothole and went backwards into a guys driveway, that guy wasn’t even mad, he said he was impressed that my civic was even moving that fast(sedan and d16y8), didn’t even get mad or call the cops, but every time I go past now he sits out and watches, d16y8’s are good reliable engines but if you ain’t above 4500 you ain’t doing nothing

      The car was $1200 to begin with and has 270k miles on it but still runs strong. He has added some parts but you really wouldn't need much to track it. Good brakes, fresh fluids, and a tune-up would do the trick. The "upgrade" mods are up to you and your budget.
