Well done, Jasper! Pacing strategy was very interesting and logical. I love cyclists, who are doing maths also)) Did you keep FTP recalculation in mind, when riding other stage's climbs?
Second both of these comments above for the algorithm. Also, I noticed and read so many of your replies today. I appreciate especially the sentence/short phrase responses. It's gotta be so time-consuming but I think we all appreciate it 🎉 Wow - making up time at 9% average grade. Not what I expected today. Best of luck tomorrow. Surprised and happy for you BC, Canada 🇨🇦
and it's not even his full time job. power overlay in the video, gopro on the bike, drone shots, graphics, voiceover... amazing quality, jaw dropping...😲
Nice pacing Jasper! Great explanation of the science and VAM. This is the mountain that Pogi cracked on in 2022. It's funny because there is a section where I picked up a little speed. I thought it was flat, the wahoo said 6%😂
Great series! I love this documentary. I wish you had someone on a motorcycle recording you so you could put more effort into riding. But it’s a great handicap tho😂
Awesome again jasper; the climbing strategy you used now should be used on all your climbs. If you can manage to recover in between parts (downhill, flats etc) you will get in the top 5.
That was rad, what a great pacing strategy. I have a feeling that if they did a completely flat TT, you'd podium. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow's episode.
Brilliant video again. We say in Engineering the 6 P's, "Proper Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance" and you prepared the crap out of this one. Massive effort. Very interesting your take on altitude and power.
Great pacing strategy! I use the same km/h to minutes per kilometer trick. Especially when on longer intervals, the calculus keeps the brain busy and then the 4x4 VO2 is done
Really nice and sympathetic of Mattia, a direct rival of yours, to give you a hard big pull on that flatter part to make you go faster. It seems that this is what the Haute Route is about: being the best you can be, but also help out competitors.
loved the data driven approach to this challenge and also the story telling in this series is just epic! Waiting every day for the new EP, awesome series!
Absolutely loved the strategy wow!!! you totally deserved the great result from the effort you put into working all that out, look fwd to see how this series goes and seeing many more video’s keep up the great work!! 😎💪🏼👍🏼
Excellent narration and video editing, as always. Very exciting to watch and I'm surprised how low your heart rate is when you are going Full Gas at the top. An exciting event!
Loving these! Maybe an idea for a future video, how did you loose the weight? I saw it the double bicep pose you were at a much bigger size, I know that does not help for cycling up tye mountains. Did you previously eat more, do more weight lifting and cycle less? How did your diet and training change? Amazing footage, really loving this series!
I did +- 20 years bmx racing. Last years on high level so lots of strength training in gym. I was 89kg at my heaviest lifting and squatting 200kg, since 2018 i focussed on endurance and lost a few kg but still remains a “big” guy for a road cyclist.
awesome...great thinking man's strategy...will definately have to consider that next time i have a long climb....science for the gains...did you just remember what to do or did you have notifications or notes on the stem?
Just curious about the negative split with power at elevation… I noticed you pulse stayed at 170ish. Couldn’t a person just use heart rate and as the elevation goes up your power naturally goes down?
Maybe. But there are more factors that play into HR so to keep it more acccurate power is the way to go. When I would be less fatigued I’d probably keep rising in HR all the way to finish but now I couldn’t
Wow that pacing strategy seemed to be the key for your success in the tt. But until i can apply it myself i'll probably have to watch the video 1 or 2 times more😂
Just curious if you’re doing anything for recovery after the ride(besides the massage provided by the event)? Any stretching, or post ride recovery routine?
Well done Jasper heaps of data love it i am surprized your 81kg must be those sprinter legs i,m 72kg with similar power but push lower cadence on a climb like that do you know if you can run those power meter pedals with time mtb pedals .💪✌👍
Mate, looks like if in a case of a flight emergency over Atlantic with all 747's engines off you could give enough power to turbines to successfully land at a destination airport even if you'll need to go around.

Best thing about more stages is more videos 🙌
EPISODE 6 GOES LIVE TOMORROW!! Let me know what you think of this part! 👇👇👇
This was another awesome video and awesome ride. I really like the data overlays. What software do you use to make that?
Well done, Jasper! Pacing strategy was very interesting and logical. I love cyclists, who are doing maths also)) Did you keep FTP recalculation in mind, when riding other stage's climbs?

This has been so well put together Jasper - great mix of storytelling and information
For the algorithms sake, I have to repeat myself: that editing quality is beyond awesome! Thanks für sharing, Jasper!
and it's not even his full time job. power overlay in the video, gopro on the bike, drone shots, graphics, voiceover... amazing quality, jaw dropping...😲
Thanks again!
🤝🙌🏻🙌🏻
Loved the FTP breakdown over different elevations 💪 I’ll use this to pace my next race
It will help!
Brutal climb ... all us 80+ kilo riders are very proud of you Jasper 👍🏾
😂😂
You can see that Jesper is accustomed to using performance charts in his day job. Transferable skills.
Hahaha 🤣
that Samantha is a crazy quick climber, holy
Awesome to see people clapping and giving encouragement on the side of the rode for all of you.
After the emotions of yesterday, so proud to see your drive and success, your strategy and execution looked superb
One of the best cycling series. I watch it every year. Really like that you share info and also tell a story
Thanks for coming back!
Great timetrial. Great video, I love that you put the episodes obly one day apart!
Yeah this worked way better than last year. I’m learning 🤓
Nice pacing Jasper! Great explanation of the science and VAM. This is the mountain that Pogi cracked on in 2022. It's funny because there is a section where I picked up a little speed. I thought it was flat, the wahoo said 6%😂
Sometimes 6% feels flat when the rest is 9% haha
Great series! I love this documentary. I wish you had someone on a motorcycle recording you so you could put more effort into riding. But it’s a great handicap tho😂
Maybe one day!
Awesome again jasper; the climbing strategy you used now should be used on all your climbs. If you can manage to recover in between parts (downhill, flats etc) you will get in the top 5.
That’s a very interesting climbing strategy which I will definitely try as a heavy guy who can’t climb ))
Congrats!
Practice!
That was rad, what a great pacing strategy. I have a feeling that if they did a completely flat TT, you'd podium. Looking forward to seeing tomorrow's episode.
Yeah I’m sure I’d get top 3. Maybe only Drake would beat me
Great having the metrics on screen and your analysis - tough with elevation and temperature all going up. Great effort.
This content is next level bro! It's SO good! Also, props to Samantha - that lady can ride!
I wish Haute Route would be 30 stages long. That would be complete month of continuous Jasper entertainment 😁
Hahaha
They should have a flat TT to compensate for all the descents which are not timed. This isn´t fair for us 80kg+ guys😜
Hahhaa
Fantastic explanation of your effort and loving the coverage!
Really nice explanation with the FTP for the different elevations. Even the VAM calculation!! Top Notch work!
Just loving your series and following the race. Pacing strategy was perfect and gave you confidence in what could be achieved
👌
This was very enjoyable, loved all your number system which was very smart of you to adapted as your plan. Good luck on your next day.
MATHS FOR THE WIN!
Brilliant video again. We say in Engineering the 6 P's, "Proper Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance" and you prepared the crap out of this one. Massive effort. Very interesting your take on altitude and power.
Hahaha. Same goes for flying an airplane so I guess I’m used to it 🤓😜
Great pacing strategy! I use the same km/h to minutes per kilometer trick. Especially when on longer intervals, the calculus keeps the brain busy and then the 4x4 VO2 is done
Exactly!
Really nice and sympathetic of Mattia, a direct rival of yours, to give you a hard big pull on that flatter part to make you go faster. It seems that this is what the Haute Route is about: being the best you can be, but also help out competitors.
Well said! 💯 mattia is a great guy!!
loved the data driven approach to this challenge and also the story telling in this series is just epic! Waiting every day for the new EP, awesome series!
Sick efford ! For me there can´t be enough stages. :) Again great Video and with all the power details. 100.000 Subs incoming !
Absolutely loved the strategy wow!!! you totally deserved the great result from the effort you put into working all that out, look fwd to see how this series goes and seeing many more video’s keep up the great work!! 😎💪🏼👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
I always enjoy your content, you have very infectious energy that makes it fun to watch!
Glad you enjoy it!
Dude, you have some of the best cycling content there is.
Excellent narration and video editing, as always. Very exciting to watch and I'm surprised how low your heart rate is when you are going Full Gas at the top. An exciting event!
That’s the fatigue and elevation! Sea level and fresh id be higher
@@jasperverkuijl Ha, ha. You're just saying that because you're a pilot.
This is more exciting than the proper TdF, really 😂
Congrats for the content and for that stellar performance, yo fanatic!
Your dedication to this race is beyond inspiring 🙌
🤙🏻🤙🏻🤙🏻
I know this is old, but what a monster effort. Great job and thanks for giving us all such amazing uploads like this and commentary.
Thank you very much! Old or not, I keep up with every comment!
You are a great story teller...chapeau Jasper!
Another great video Jasper. Probably my favourite video of yours... but I haven't watched episode 6 yet!!
I really love this series. I'll never be a racer but it really makes me want to get on my bike and go all our!
Go!
Ah jasper wat heb je er toch een gave video's van gemaakt. Echt zo gaaf om te kijken. Die strategie was erg interessant!
Thanks man!
Dit was leerzaam! thnx. Jij blijft ook zo positief..wow
Very nice enterteinment and informational video. Thanks Jasper
Great climbing tips. Good power for 46mins. Be hard at threshold for that long! 1sec ahead of 7th in tt after 46mins though!
Epic stuff again Jasper!
Gee, I was overwhelmed by the numbers. Love your effort.
Thanks for the plan, will use it this summer on Whiteface, NY 👍
Learned a lot in this one! Thank you for these insights into your strategy. Very cool. (And you absolutely crushed it.. good job!!)
Glad it was helpful!
What an amazing effort
Good job Jasper!

brilliant insight, I'm lovin' it
Great TT!!! Super human effort. Thank you so much for sharing your strategy. I will be trying this exact strategy on my next FTP test.
Bijna 100k Jasper! Mijlpaal en dik verdient🎉🎉🎉
Excellent ride Jasper, well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love this series. Very well done videos. So entertaining 👍👏
Awesome video once again!
Awesome video, I love this one since I’m going to do the Col Du Granon myself in september. Thanks for the table about the decreasing FTP values.
Awesome! Plan it out well and full gas from the gun!!!! (Not really, pace it like I explained 😂😜)
@@jasperverkuijl depending on which colleague rides in front of me, I might be tempted to go full gaz too early.
Love the series!
videos are great jasper 😊
Mooi uitgelegd en knap gereden, interessante video! Keep up the good work :D
Hoop dat je er iets aan hebt de volgende Alpen col!
Great videos mate!! 👌🏼

Great video! Congrats for this stunning performance!
Epic pacing, heart rate was good all the time!
This is the best!
smart calculations. I like it :)
Thanks! 😃
great stuff
awesome...great thinking man's strategy...will definately have to consider that next time i have a long climb....science for the gains...did you just remember what to do or did you have notifications or notes on the stem?
I had it in my head
Go JV! 🙌🙌
Great result
Mooie uitleg over de tijdrit, geweldig in beeld gebracht (hoe doe je dat ?) en je vermogens zijn enorm !

Super videos💪👍
Thanks! 👍
You are an animal Jasper!!
Wicked pacing strategy
Amazing
hit the green feather buff!
Amazing buddy, I learn from u
Glad to hear it
Brilliant. Go Jasper... I suspect your careful approach to recovery is paying dividends...
Wow that pacing strategy seemed to be the key for your success in the tt. But until i can apply it myself i'll probably have to watch the video 1 or 2 times more😂
Absorb the info than go try to apply it. Practice makes perfect
Just curious if you’re doing anything for recovery after the ride(besides the massage provided by the event)? Any stretching, or post ride recovery routine?
Not really. Just cool down and eat
Well done JV nice tt
Well done Jasper heaps of data love it i am surprized your 81kg must be those sprinter legs i,m 72kg with similar power but push lower cadence on a climb like that do you know if you can run those power meter pedals with time mtb pedals .💪✌👍
Assioma had the PRO MX pedals now for Mtb and gravel. Get those!
Powerrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!
Full gas 👍🏾
Always
Maths for the win 🎉
Top!
Grea effort for a guy of your weight
Nice contend
spannend !
