- Over the past 40 years, Jeff Reynolds and a few friends have created two snapshots in time of the history of the Rio Grande Southern railroad in 1:87 scale. October 1st, 1940 and the same date in 1950 were chosen to model the dazzling fall colors of the San Juans in southwestern Colorado . Everything in the video creates a connection with and supports either date: the structures; scenery; rolling stock and locomotives; sounds; flora and fauna; all in forced perspective.
Brother John, ever the talented video editor has laid out the story for you.
Thank god his friend brought that book camping and it fell into the hands of such talented and determined modelers. Thank you for documenting and sharing this layout and it’s history with us. It truly is amazing.
You both are tremendously talented creators.
What's better than a John Reynolds video about putting a mammoth engine in a little Corvair? A John Reynolds video about model trains! WOO HOO! John, your brother has done an amazing job. The family motto, "Anything worth doing is worth doing to excess" runs deep in the Reynolds boys!
I used to live in Sierra Madre (right next to Pasadena CA) and I remember visiting this layout when it was in the La Cañada Flintridge area. Great modeling and it ran as good as it looks.
Great Gallagher Scene! First time I'm seeing it modeled.
What a great tribute to the original railroad. You guys are are of the most talented guys I have ever seen. This was a great video!
Extraordinarily realistic modeling! Well done, sir! 😊
This is beyond incredible, I cannot imagine the amount of hours that went into this project; the end result is amazing and all the details about this story are fantastic content. Well done.
Great video of your railroad. Lights out and close the door is a fun ending.
Fantastic. Great to meet your dad!
We now understand how you do your work!
The guy in the video is John's older, much older brother.
@@jeffreynolds7894 Oops. Sorry. Love his work just the same. No insult intended.
I absolutely adored model trains as a kid, I’m inspired to maybe take it back up in the future
I didn't even start this project until I was 40.
The RCA Mark II was one of the earliest production synthesizers built in 1959 using punch cards and costing $10K at that time. Of course the infamous Moog which was first released in 1967. There were a lot of garage units in the 1950's that never made production. The Pacific Fast Mail was not really a part of the synthesizer development, but actually the other way around.
Thank you Jeff for a wonderful video!
Wow you started that in 1982 when I graduated high school. That is super nice! You brothers are very talented.
That was bad ass John. That is a hell of a story. The detail was mind boggling. The display is huge.
That is very nice modeling!
The railroad is amazing. Being another modeler I can appreciate the time talent and dedication it took to build and maintain. Like most model railroads this one is still under construction and improvements. I would love to see the layout in person, the video does not do the detail work justice
Thank you for once again inviting us in.
Perhaps the unifying link so many viewers on your channel loved this inside look at Jeff Reynolds detailed work of art is because they enjoy seeing your detailed works of art come together. I know that does it for me...and the fact that I have loved trains and model railroad since I was a kid. I still watch the trains go by with a smile every chance I get.
Wow, just wow Jeff. Such an amazing story and layout.
Excellent video and narration. I am a big mountain model railroad person myself (building a large HO Mountain Road) and this stellar layout pushes a lot of buttons for me. All the best.

Fascinating humans you guys are. Very cool.
Aging/ detail is fabulous
TRULY WONDERFUL! Thanks for sharing... 😁👍👍👍👍👍
Wow, you're a talented couple o' fellas! 🤩
Spectacular Jeff....Bravissimo to you and your colleagues!!
Hats off to you sir. Well done! Tremendous.
As a bass trombone player and railfan this is amazing to see what the great Jeff Reynolds has put together!!! An inspiration as a musician and now as a modeler! Additionally a fantastic video to showcase it all!
Super cool set up!! I'm envious! Always wanted to do this , just cant afford the time or space unfortunately. Very nice to see train cars with no graffiti on them! Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! I love model trains and really admire this dedication and passion.
Great video, Sir. 😎
Wow. The detailed videography, the remarkable realism, the drive for perfection you both exhibit, is a joy to behold. Thank you John for the thoughtful presentation, and thank you Jeff for letting us in for a peek into your world. Wow.
Amazing.
Really cool!
Very neat! 💪👍🏼
John, what a terrific job with the trains presentation! Jeff did you ever estimate the hours spent in those three rooms creating this treasure?
I'm glad Kathy and I could see it in "for real" a couple years ago!!
The story, the narrative, the history and presentation - WOW!
Thanks Bonnie, not sure if Jeff is monitoring this but a guess would be 10 thousand man hours.
yeah, I heard him say that. Just wondered if he REALLY, ACTUALLY, fingured it out
Ya know, just about every train car i have seen, has Graffiti all over it. What now? lol, nice wok, very nice work......
Not in 1950, before spray paint in cans.
Incredible efforts made here!! - the railroads are coming back here in Sweden, the gov.ment wants to get rid of the heavy trucks on the roads, - safer and less trouble with freight trains - and i like it! - i have always ben fond of trains, greetings, Levi
Corvairs, VWs, and model railroad - ever the epitome of the renaissance man... no really, it's pretty cool
nice!!
Great!
Niel young MUST have missed seeing That
Have you hand laid your track? If not, what track Manf. did you use? Vary Impressive layout, thanks for sharing!!!
muito interessante
Not as cool as the Corvair but still really cool.
This model train set up is bigger than my house. I’m not kidding my house is only 780 sq ft 😂
It may be true, but you have windows. The train room has a 10 foot rollup and a 3 foot man door. No windows for control of the lighting.
Well done all around! Excellent quality of model RR build AND this video - an entertaining, informative overview of results of dedication and impeccable craftsmanship. Or at least you fooled me :flipoff2:
