I love your videos! When I was in high school I did a lot of whittling. I saw one of your videos the other day and you inspired me to start again. So I got out my old tools and started again. Thank you!
Love the fast forward and gibberish high pitched voice! So funny! You are such a good instructor on your carving tutorials! Love all you do! Peace and good fortune!
Hi, Doug. Fun seeing you carve the little tree man and using a wash to paint him. If you let a bit of the wash run into the creases, it darkens as it would a shadow without the antiquing. I like the "new" greens as well as the antique look. I was happy to see your "Canoe man" on the shelf. He is my favorite, too. I remember seeing the video where you thought of it, then carved and sent him on his journey. So sweet and melancholy on a cold, snowy day. I'd like to see the first little man you carved again. He was enchanting and so very small. Thank you for sharing your art and calm personality with us out here in this crazy world. Take care. ;o) Donna B.
Just followed your video while carving and I was very pleased with the results. You are amazing to follow. I will carve another without watching to see what I remember, Thanks so much !!!!
Hey Hero, I have been meaning to text you on one of these for a while now. I can not tell you how much you have helped me and still are through a tuff time. I have really enjoyed all your video's and recommend them all the time. I have spent every waking moment I could find in the woods for as long as I can remember. A lot of your video's brings my memories back for me. A while back I got the big news that I aint gonna be around much longer. I have put a lot of living in my 58 years, so I am not upset about it at all. But when I do get upset about the grandkids and my kids having a rough time with it, I can always turn on one of your many video's that I enjoy so much, and it takes me away. I think you are amazing and live a great life! You should be very proud of how many people you have helped I am sure. So thanks again, and keep up the great fun things you do! Take care Hero!
Buz Meintzer: Hi, Buz. Its November 14, 2019, and I just read your post. I hope that you're still around and can see this. Sometimes we just have to talk to somebody about the end of life. In the past, I've found help and understanding from perfect strangers when I was going through a hard time. I also find Doug's carving and camping videos a "peaceful place to go" when all seems too much. Here's wishing you the best of luck and life. WHEN (not "if") you get this, maybe you can reply and let us know. I'm sure there are lots of viewers who want to write to you, but just can't find the words. I couldn't let this chance pass by. Take care. From a stranger, Donna B. :o)
Doug I just want to drop you a comment to let you know that I really enjoy your UA-cam work. I enjoy the outdoors trips, but am a huge fan of your carving videos. On a recent backpacking trip with my son and two grand children, we all carved the 5 minute spirit. We have made carving part of our backpacking tradition. I packed some bass wood blanks along for that one. Keep up the great content. I see a smiling Christmas tree in my future.
Doug! I have been rather obsessed with your videos for a few months now. Thought it time to put in a comment so you know your videos are appreciated. My only experience carving is watching you and I have made several carvings that EVERYONE I KNOW is very impressed with. I LOVE this new hobby of mine. Keep em coming Doug! I love hanging out with you and carving during my 12hr night shifts. I hope you get to do this forever.
Thanks Doug; again, a beautiful little creation for anyone to enjoy. I have noticed that few of the comments on your videos are negative, or nit-picky about the end product. I am unhealthy older man looking forward to learning more and doing more from a sitting position. Thank You so much, and I'm so glad to have found you sir.
Another great video Doug .mine looks like he's been on the Rum all over Christmas. Il keep practicing 😏 thanks for your time. I can't stop watching your videos there great
Doug, thanks for your continued efforts. I found you researching carving vids. “The most satisfying carving” got me started. The videos of you camping and fishing are outstanding. Keep it up brother!
Good morning to you Doug Excellent Christmas tree ornaments / ornament for your shelf. Great video and fantastic tutorial keep up the good work and have yourself a fantastic day
Thank you for this new video, great as always ... I would love a video presentation of your favorite books ... Thank you again, and can not wait to see the next videos! ..
Doug! Again your ROCKIN the carve! You say “size doesn’t matter” but if the board is carefully cut as you laid it out, or cut on the bandsaw, it allows you two trees per board! Take the scrap pieces and turn the two angles,.place the two remaining squares together and place under the angles and glue. clamping could be a bear for some folks I grant but what a great way to double the fun! Thanks again for another really fun easy great carve to add to my journey! Best of the Season to You and Yours! 😁🎄
Thanks Doug! Can't wait to carve into this one! Keep 'em comin' buddy! Your talent is awesoome and you are such a good teacher! I am on my 4th carving...each one learning more and more. Thanks to you. Love these starting projects...

I love this video! I was always interested in carving but thought it was way too difficult. I like the way you broke this down. I actually watched this video on my smart TV which doesn't let you like or subscribe so I went on my computer to find this video to add my comments. I just found you through watching Joe's videos when you two go canoeing. I like to see the same videos from you and Joe on the same trips. You have different styles so it is very interesting. I like to learn about your separate hobbies. Very cool!
Now i need to go and find a piece of appropriate sized basswood from my stash - Thanks Doug... LOL. Needless to say I look forward to your videos Doug. Keep up the great work and content.
