My house was built in 1895 and this looks like my toilet in my upstairs bathroom. The tank is bolted to the wall and you spin the handle to flush it.

i wish i could see it flush i never heard of the standard buttercup toilet it may had been standards first toilet i thought the standard ejecto was the first standard toilet but this proves that i was wrong that toilet is in great condition
I believe after the outhouse and before this were indoor wooden benches with a hole in them, and then a toilet that came with a box on the ceiling with a string that you would pull down. If you ask how I know this, I would tour Victorian homes and history sites for architectural studies
that's true in some cases... but not all... it depends how much money you had. the reason the outhouse was away from the home is because no one wanted to smell it.... if you don't have the money to purchase the system necessary to keep it from smelling your not going to have an indoor system. the records are very extensive with this home....

Were trying no too.... but now that's all we can think of.... this was just an innocent episode on an old toilet ..... now its a rip roaring tragedy!! haha

Looks like a lot of plastic for the first toilet. Not buying it.
It is porcelain not plastic.
the lid and seat ..... of course.... have been replaced.... but the porcelain bowl and workings are all original
