    Great video. Saved me from calling a plumber. I called American Standard. They said that the Champion parts are under warranty for 10 years. They are sending me the seal for underneath the flapper for free. Waiting for delivery now. Hopefully that will be a quick fix. They are sending instructions but I wouldn't have known that the valve could be removed so easily without this video. Thank you!

    Dude! Thanks so much for saving me time and money. Your super-comprehensive video and the excellent comments below helped me with 3 things. 1) How to fix the toilet. In my case, it is a leaky flapper 2) Do it for free by calling American Standard as the toilet is under warranty. I didn't save the receipt but the guy was nice enough to do a one-time courtesy shipment 3) Fix it temporarily while I'm waiting for the warranty item to arrive b applying Vaseline on the bottom of the flapper. That stopped the leak for now.
    Such a great example of the UA-cam community coming together to help each other out. I would've spent at least $40 on doing it myself and $100+ had I called a plumber.

    Excellent video - I wish I knew how dicey the flush and flapper were on this toilet before I bought it and had it installed. It has had numerous run-on issues - and as you showed, it's most likely at the flapper. As other commenters have said: thanks for showing how to unscrew the flapper. I purchased a set of 2 Pack 7301111-0070A Flush Valve Seal Kit for American Standard Toilet Valve Seal for Champion 4 Tank and Eljer Toilets Flush Valve Gasket rings, from Amazon. The new blue rings are slightly thicker than the original clear ring. One other IMPORTANT thing: there is a locking mechanism that locks the ring in. It must be turned to a "mark" to secure the ring. So far, this ring replacement has SOLVED the problem. I did not need to purchase a complete kit. Just the seal rings. Thanks again for this video and your other videos!

    Great video. I found replacement gaskets at Amazon. I have had to change several on one of the American Standard toilets I have. Today I replaced that gasket and the toilet just keeps running. I'm going to try loosening the cap and see if that helps. It was not running constantly before I replaced the gasket. Now it is. Appreciate your generous gift of time and thorough research and explanations!

      @justmeveginout8864 16 днів тому +1

      Try wiping off the lower rim that the gaskets sits on. Buildup can cause a leak, but the problem is usually the defective gaskets that came with the toilets. FYI, I have read the amazon gaskets only last 6 to 9 months. American Standard seals are suppose to be better. My toilet is still under warranty so I just replaced my amazon gasket with the free American Standard gasket so I will have to wait and see if it lasts longer than the amazon gaskets. Apparently there was an issue with the gaskets that came with the toilets. They form bubbles in the gasket over time causing them to lose their seal.

    This was a great video for this kind of toilet. So, what I did was unscrew it and then remove the plastic cap holding the gasket down and pulled gasket off and noted that on the side away from the drain there was an indentation in the gasket so I flipped the gasket over and it fixed the problem. We have a toilet that had a nagging leak a few years ago. I replaced the flapper several times and it still leaked. Old timer at the hardware store told me to apply a coating of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly on the bottom of the flapper where it contacts the opening it seals up. I was skeptical, but gave it a try. Toilet hasn't leaked yet. I did the same thing to our 2nd toilet and both my Mom's toilets when they started leaking, and it fixed those too.

    I have an older Champion 4 which I previously did battle with the part that screws into the flapper from the top. After conquering that technique, I replaced another toilet with a newer Champion 4. The new one started phantom flushing after a few months. I opened it up and was faced with a new flapper design. Your video really helped me conquer this one. The new design is an improvement over the older one, but that gray clip seems pretty flimsy. I think the next time I need to replace a toilet, it will not be a Champion 4.

I changed the first one a year ago and did it the hard way. Slipped off the seal over the top. This time, I took off the entire drop-down flapper. So much faster!!! Some suggestions: take off the flush lever and use latex or rubber gloves, which allow a sure grip if you have a weak grip or a build-up of slime on the parts.

    I'm a facilities technician for clinics and hospitals and I have to be very efficient on my work, I started replacing the toilets for the customers since the previous old toilets gave me a lot of work but not only that, that I had to leave the area clean since we have a problem with homeless and drug addicts in L.A. County thanks to our "governor" these particular people put their feces all over the walls, floors and the toilets since I have a contract that every time I come I have to leave everything spotless clean so the real fact is that these "New Design" toilets came across and I didn't know about this new design and it hurt me really good with this bad design, now I found out about American Standard has been sued for this particular flapper system that has caused numerous problems with this bad design...
    If there's someone with a kit to replace this part I will really appreciate the effort to show the engineers from American Standard that they are a total failure on this particular design...

    My issue was related. There is seemingly a greater level of vulnerability to leaking caused by calcium buildup on the circle on which the flapper sits. Removed flapper per the excellent tip in this video, then let CLR sit on the calcium for a couple minutes, then wiped away until all calcium removed. Then good to go.
    The Vaseline idea is really cool. I’ll bet it has both the benefit of aiding seal and resisting calcium. Will try on the inevitable next treatment.

    This video helped me disassemble the flipper unit. I took out the seal which had the blisters. I don't know what causes them but I ran a tweezers into them, fluid came out, the seal flattened out so I put everything back together. We'll see how long it lasts but so far it's leak free.

      There's a new design seal that works well. I found it on Amazon and out the link in the description.

    I have the exact same toilet. I had to replace the flush assy also after about a year. After some research, I found that the flapper goes bad because of the use of tablet cleaners being placed in the tank. The chemicals/chlorine cause the rubber to bubble up and cause it to not seat flush on the valve. My wife now uses the stick on ones in the bowl instead of the tank.

    Another thank you. I bought 2 of these toilets in 2022 and one is one is now cycling every 20 minutes or so. Upon searching online for a valve assembly I find that none shown actually state my model number. Will the valve assembly used in this video be the valve assembly to use for American Standard model 4266?
    I completed agree that having to disassemble the whole tank is ridiculous! I wish it was just my flapper. Unfortunately the plastic rod that runs through the center of mine snapped off. Im thoroughly aggravated!

    It worked just as you said but I encountered an issue where the shaft on my toilet did not have the barbs on each side to keep the shaft from falling down into the toilet and yes mine disappeared into oblivion lol. So I took the new shaft to use and found the next issue. The hole in the center of the flush valve has reliefs built into it for the locking tabs to pass through. Mine does not. So I ended up cutting them off so the new shaft woo I’ll old pass through the hole in my existing flush valve. If it happens to come loose, at least the new shaft can come out. Thanks for the help !
