- Mako and I are settling into a bit of a routine here in the US Virgin Islands.. and it feels good. While we are in St. John, I take advantage of some of the shorter hikes and put Mako to a little test (:

Awe it's home! I miss living on St John. Should have never left. Thanks for bringing me back after 2 years. And there's an active crew out on the reefs fighting to preserve it. Shout out to Frank Cummings who also runs the Lionfish removal program that gives us CORE members license to hunt them in NP waters.

I am so glad to see you have a "buddy boat" with you. Mako is really a dog in a cat body. I once had a cat like that. They are so unique.
But in reality, dogs are better.
this is the first time in my 70 years that I see a cat walking like a dog on a leash. Mako is a smart cat!

There are a number of youtube channels that I get inspiration from, among them are Spear It Animal, Delos, Ryan and Sophie, Slim and Soph, and so many more, but you are my number one inspiration, Lauren. How you handle your 50ft boat as a solo sailor has me in awe. And with all of that inspiration you have given me I have just come back from my first ever sail. I left a little town called Metung in Eastern Victoria just over a week ago, and sailed 300NM with a sailing instructor up the east coast of Australia, just past Sydney. On this trip was also doing my Dayskipper's Qualification.
Can't wait to sail the Whitsunday Islands in Australia, The Med and wave at you as I sail past in the Caribbean one day.
And without you I probably would have never started. This has been life changing for me. 🤟💌
So a massive and heartfelt 'Thank-you' from me to you and Mako.

Lauren, you totally nailed the many expressions of Mako. Having cats 53 of my 58yrs love the disappointed look when you left snorkeling, not happy with the harness and I'm over this looking for a cool place to lie while hiking. Have only snorkeled around So California so know very little but that reef looked unhealthy. Awesome you got to see a shark, am sure you miss interacting with the other toothy ones.

I think that's the most exercise Mako has had in the last month. He did well😊 I noticed the difference in the coral reefs. The last one had brighter color coral and more various fish. Thanks!

Great video, I think Mako did well hiking. Thanks for the beautiful underwater shots.
You can grab the mooring ball solo from the stern if you prep for it. You take a mooring line or any spare line from your mooring point on the bow, go outside your railing the same way your anchor chain does, and walk that line all the way aft OUTSIDE the rail. Then come over the rail with it.
Now you sail alongside the mooring ball, stalling out when it is just ahead of the helm. So you can grab the ball or pennant, hook on that new lline, and let go of it.
You will drift back on the slack, but if you go up to the bow you are already moored, you just need to haul in the slack.
Easier to do than to read.
Ran charters on my Newport 41 out of sapphire / st Thomas in the mid 90’s… so many multi hulls now in the area now !

Love love love St. John USVI!!! Maho is our favorite (from land or sea), even with the west end development (there last June).
Funniest moment... our mid 20 ish daughter, doing the Flintstone peddle maneuver towards shore as we snorkeled, because I pointed out a shark on the bottom minding it's own business, lol.

I did that Lower Francis bay hike myself a couple of months ago. Really nice, not to mention the day on the St. Francis beach. Though, sad to say, I did not have a cat to hang with.
I just love the relationship you and Mako have hes so chill and you could probably not use the leash on the trails unless he just gets to distracted 😂😂😂😂

Settling into a routine for a couple days, people fall into 2 day routines and next minute they go crazy😆.. oh yeah ‘nice to get in the water with a shark’, not on my bucket list yet.

With cats being inquisitive, Mako would love forest walks, pity he couldn’t unzip the fur coat off..

I have never seen a cat like Mako. Most cats are so ultra independent that I usually don’t like them.
And putting Mako on a leash I would have never guessed he would so be cooperative. I think he is an exceptional cat. My sister has a male cat that I don’t really like, he is impossible to get to do anything like Mako. And really hard to keep up with. Maybe you trained Mako right, IDK, but he is different.
I like seeing the basics! Grocery shopping, cooking, showers etc. Naps with Mako! Honey. You're so thin! If you take me on your boat I'd be your adopted Grandma and cook for you ❤

In the book kontiki they mix their water with 25% sea water to make their water last longer and give them some minerals I was wondering are you drinking reverse osmosis water without adding minerals? Because that will drain your calcium in your body

My cat ,Mango, doesn't walk on a leash very well. Unless I want to walk through the bushes or up walls or through small culverts. Mango did really well from what I saw.

I've spent a fair amount of time on STJ. That first hike can be brutal so I've officially retired from hiking it, but I'm also a lot older than you guys. You should hike Ram's Head. I hated it too, but the views are wonderful. If you cannot tell, I don't like hiking.
