Yes...and no. Marvel took cinema to a new place with shared universes. Then revamped television with engrossing storylines and visuals fit for theater. Disney took cartoons to the next level, producing theatrical hit after hit for 30+ years. Pixar did the same with 3D animation for the last 20 years. A24 has elevated the horror genre fodder to a new height, but none of their films can come close to Ratatouille, Black Panther 1-2, or Fantasia. In my opinion, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, and Get Out are the biggest standouts in the genre. Nope and Cabin in the Woods are also insanely well written takes on the genre. Pearl is a gem, but mostly due to Goth and Wright's performances. The movie would have fallen flat with that last act monologue if not for Goth. She literally carries it to the end.

@@marley92282 I know right. I don't understand why people feel the need to praise fast food when others are discussing the delicious fine dining experience they just had. I mean, how does anyone look at Black Panther and say "yeah that's way better than The Lighthouse, Pearl, etc.". When BP was nominated for best picture at the Oscars, that had to be the biggest joke of the century, it's not even the best MCU movie, not by far, honestly it's one of their more mediocre movies. And yes, Pixar is (or was anyway) high quality filmmaking, and Disney's animation used to be as well, especially in the 90s... but both have fallen so far from grace in the last decade, it's a shame, and they just are not viable for discussion of great filmmaking anymore. A24 however keeps knocking it out of the park, and they have become the new Pixar in consistency.
@@DA_BOID I respect everything you said (even if I don't agree with some of it), but the one thing I highly disagree and need to say is that Black Panther is not at all at the same league as the other films you mentioned, which surprises me taking into consideration the type of movie those other films are.
