- Day 2, part 2: We scrambled off Glenridding Dodd and made our way over to another car park where we had arranged to meet Glenn (he left at 5:30am so he was as knackered as the rest of us).
After some lunch and a pint we scrambled up to the top of Arnison Crag. At only 433 meters, it isn't exactly high, but the views were incredible regardless. I highly recommend this as a walk or a place to wild camp.
The sun decided to bless us as we were climbing up with all our gear, and then immediately disappeared once we summited. The weather for June was awful. With feel like temps of 6 degrees, suffice to say we were all in our down gear. but I made myself a warm pasta Bolognese for tea and sank a few beers to help combat the cold.
Other than to see my good mate Alan, we also travelled up there as a part of a charity fund raising event. Alan had been organising a camp with 214 people on all 214 Wainwright fells, all in order to raise 5k for one of the Cumbrian mountain rescue teams. We didn't quite get the 214 people we were hoping for but I think around half of the mountains were camped on that night. Alan arranged for everyone camping to light their beacons (as many torches as possible) at 11pm so we could all see each other... Well British weather being what it is had it's own idea for that plan. The clag came in around 10pm making it all but impossible to see most of the torches, however we did see several, which was still quite cool. More importantly we hit the 5k goal!!! Well done Alan for all your efforts.
