  • This is a typical day in my life living with type one diabetes in Glasgow, UK. I use the FreeStyle Libre and Omnipod to manage my diabetes. In this video I show you how I change my Omnipod and manage my blood sugar. I also go for a walk through the University of Glasgow and Kelvingrove Park. Looking forward to many new adventures in the UK!

    To inject the canla in my infusion set a needle is pulled out. I'm assuming there is no needle in these omnipods? So does it hurt to put in your stomach? Do you put it in your hip as well at times or just stomach, leg and arms? I understand how it feels to have diabetes and how it controls us!!

    • @LauraCravenOfficial
      @LauraCravenOfficial  2 роки тому +1

      There is a cannula on the omnipod. It inserts when the pod is attached and activated. It stings a bit when it is inserted. Stomach sites don’t usually hurt for me. I find leg sites to be the most uncomfortable for me, but this happens rarely. I also place the pod on my back/hip area and I find it a really comfortable spot for me.

    I just want to preface, Please only answer if you feel comfortable doing so.
    How was it to travel such a distance (by plane?) with diabetes? Air plane food a concern?
    Medication in Scotland affordable to you though you are not a citizen?
    Seeing you travel such a way for work certainly is encouraging for me personally!
    I understand videos can certainly take serious time to make (especially editing) but have you noticed any pros and cons with Scotland to Canada (perhaps certain foods or brands not available bit offset by lots of new walking trails to explore)
    Sorry for this TL;DR but Im really thankful for the depth you show on your videos, and learning a bit more how you juggle traveling and adapting to a new place is both interesting and educational (I'm certainly not a wordsmith, bit i hope ypu are able to understand what I'm trying to convey).

    Hi.. I saw ur omnipod video and very much happy to see such a small insulin pump providing relief to T1DM people. My 02 year old son recently diagnosed with T1DM which is quite shocking and heart broken for us as parents. We are giving him injections 04 times daily and pricking 6-7 times daily to check sugar level. Prey to God and hope to have a cure soon for all the T1DM people soon.I am interested to have omnipod for my son but they have no office in India.

    So happy to see you posted another vid!💙 I noticed you used your phone and reader to scan your libre - do your devices sync up, or do you have two separate logbooks?

    • @LauraCravenOfficial
      @LauraCravenOfficial  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks Christina ☺️ When I start a new Libre sensor I scan with my reader and then scan with my phone (it has to be that order) in the 60 minute warm up period. This way I can scan my Libre sensor with either device in case there is a situation where I don’t want to bring both my phone and reader. They both store all of the data, but I just upload the data from my phone to Libre View for my clinic to see.

    I like the way you go into the details of what you are eating and the amount of bolus you are giving as well as the total amount of insulin you are taking. I know this applies only to you specifically but it’s still interesting information. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi Laura, I did my Graduate Work at Strathclyde University. Glasgow is a beautiful city. I would recommend when your not working visiting Loch Lomond and Edinburgh. The train system is great. Remember to drive on the LHS. (BTW, I'm type 2) Cheers Steve

    • @LauraCravenOfficial

      I got it from Get My ID. It comes in a variety of colours. Type one diabetes is one of the conditions they have premade. You can also get a sleeve with custom text if that better suits you. I like it much better than wearing a medical alert bracelet 😊 shop.getmyid.com/collections/myid-products/products/myid-condition-sleeve
