Hi Laura. I am 62 and will be starting on an omnipod 5 on February 8th . I’ve been on dexcom G6 for about a year and it has done wonders for my diabetes. I came across your channel as I was trying to educate myself about the omnipod 5. I’m also trying to embrace the lifetime changes… I think I was in a little of denial and not taking my diabetic care seriously which led to some hospitalizations for DKA. I think you do a fantastic job with your channel and I like the information you give. My ex wife is from Blenheim Ontario and I’ve camped in Rondeau provincial park several times so I’m enjoying the videos of your camping from several years ago . I’m trying to embrace also getting back into exercise and just general activity and travel since the pandemic. And enjoying the inclusion of blue and green space therapy (visits to parks and lakes and rivers) which I’m finding to be great stress busters. I hope you’re doing and would really hope for more of your videos and an update for 2023. Best to you , from Louisville , kY. USA
It’s always heartening when we have good days like this. I’ve been type1 for 52 years now. Technology really helps. Started pumping 31 years ago. I just got in OmniPod 5 and have gone from A1C of 6.4 to 6.1. My time in range is 94% over the past 3 months.
Technology really does make all the difference. It’s definitely helped take some of the weight of diabetes off my shoulders. Congratulations on the improvements you’ve seen with the Omnipod 5. Is it an app on your phone?
I’m type 1 for 47 years now. Started Dexcom G6 2 months ago and I absolutely treasure having that as a management tool. I’ve never used a pump but I am very tempted to try the Omnipod 5 when it becomes available through my medical provider in the US.
Nice to hear you are doing well. My wife just received notice that Omnipod 5 is on its way. We're both excited and nervous to make the switch from mdI's . Thanks for the timely video. We're in our 60's and just passed one year since her diagnosis. We find inspiration from your videos. ❤️. By the way, what beautiful scenery!
That’s so exciting that she’ll receive her pump soon! I really love the Omnipod system and I hope it helps make diabetes a little bit easier for you both. Wishing you all the best 😊
Hi Laura, how are you doing? It seems you haven’t made any videos in about a year, so hopefully you are still doing well. Have you ever thought about trying out a ketogenic diet to help manage your diabetes? I’ve heard that it can help lower the amount of insulin to take as well as keep better control of stable blood sugar. Thanks for your videos about type 1 diabetes. Very much appreciate your experiences.
Great videos and awesome with in range all day. I saw that you moved. Have you navigated the healthcare system there to get your supplies yet? Always been curious what to do if one moves or travels and last extra pod malfunctions. 🤪
Navigating the UK healthcare system has been quite easy. I saw a GP first that referred me to an endocrinologist. It took a couple months to see the GP initially and get all my prescriptions set up. I brought my medical records, list of prescriptions, and a note from my endo when I moved to have it well documented what I needed. I didn’t have any issues getting prescriptions or pump supplies. I brought 6 months extra supplies with me just in case, but it was sorted out faster than that.
@@LauraCravenOfficial How do you know such specific ratios for times in the day?! That’s amazing! I use Dexcom G6, once daily Glargine, rarely Fiasp because I tend to stick to low carb and I tend to go by 1:10 ratio with an extra unit or so for luck! I just don’t want this thing to rule my life so I try not to poke it in the first place #LaziestT1Everrrr. Excellent work you stayed in range all day with that btw! I’m also coming up to my 3yr diaversary (29/05/19) Yay!
I would absolutely love to when it becomes available to me! I just got the omnipod dash last year and it will be a few more years before I qualify for a new pump from the NHS.
Hi Laura, I have been a Type 1 diabetic for 27 years, I have been having highs and lows and my endocrinologist is suggesting a pump. I do not want a pump with a tube since I think the same way you did about the tube. is it very difficult to learn how to operate and calculate an omnipod? It looks looks complicated. I know my doctor said she would teach me everything about it, but I'm very nervous. Have you had any rashes from the sticky tape that holds it in place? Can you help me out on some of these questions? Thanks, Linda
I have different basal rates through the day. My current settings are 0.35 U/h 12am-3am and 0.5 U/h 3 am - 12 pm, 0.25 U/h 12 pm - 5 pm, and 0.55 U/h 5 pm - 12 am.
Thank you Laura for sharing.. new sub. My 16 year old daughter has been T1 for 9 years. I feel it has been a constant battle dealing with insurance/expenses especially since I’ve grown up in the U.K. where we never paid for our health care. I’m constantly on the phone trying to find best prices with little to no help from Drs office/insurance company plus my daughter is also celiac and has thyroid issue too and does not get gluten free prescriptions like celiacs do in the U.K..So my daughter would like to use the omnipod dash. The number 5 version of the pump is not covered by our insurance But it’s literally costing thousands of dollars! to purchase everything every 90 days! We are seriously considering moving my American family to U.K. due to this (plus I’m so homesick!). Did you experience this expense? How did you manage to find it..And how have you transitioned over to the U.K. as a diabetic on the pump.. what is the system like over there for diabetic support/provision? Thank you so much and all the best
The UK has been excellent for diabetes care! In Canada, I was paying thousands a year on prescriptions and pump supplies. When I moved to the UK I brought my Canadian medical records, all of my prescriptions, and a note from my doctor that listed what I needed prescribed. It took about a month to see a GP so I brought lots of supplies with me to cover that time. All of my prescriptions and pump supplies are free here. It’s been such a weight lifted off my shoulders. I’m so sorry to hear about the outrageous costs of lifesaving medications and devices in the US. Wishing you all the best 💙

Hello what's the cause of Ur T1D, I was 15 months old baby when diagnosed with T1D today 46, Cause of My T1D Vitamin D Deficiency and Chicken Pox Virus. After Corona Pandemic cases of T1D have gone up including adult onset T1D same cause Vitamin D Deficiency and Corona Virus/Vaccine. Vitamin D Deficiency weakens the Immune System n luck factor might have faced some virus. Thanks 🙂🙂😁😁.
Shes a ginger and god hates gingers, you thinking the cause of your T1D is vitamin D deficiency and chicken pox is the dumbest shit I have ever heard. Correlation doesn't equal causation, and you will never EVER know the reason as to why you or anyone got T1 diabetes. You saying T1D diagnoses have gone up because of vitamin D deficiency and corona virus and the vaccine is the second dumbest thing I have ever heard. You need to stop posting stupid shit online.

How are you doing currently? I could recommend some books that would probably help you.

The scenery is beautiful. Do you always have ratio of 1 to 10? Anybody else need more Insulin than that?
Yes it is so beautiful there 😊 I have different ratios for different meals. 1:10 for breakfast, 1:8 for lunch, and 1:14 for dinner.
