Visit highlandtitles.com and use my discount code TRAVEL25 to get a 25% discount on your purchase! Welcome to the Scottish Highlands! I had the rare privilege of a private tour with Highland Titles at their incredible nature reserve at Duror, near Fort William. Join me for the trip, which includes a full review of the Caledonian Sleeper luxury night train in a Club cabin with ensuite!
More of this please paul love how people are passionate about the environment they share and live in and how they`re preserving nature and it`s abundant flora and fauna for future generations to enjoy, The scenery is spectacular, Thank you paul.
Paul, I don’t recall you ever doing a video such as this before. Lots of sightseeing but still a healthy dose of transport content. Like a trip report Rick Steves! Very nice
Been on the Calley sleeper four times now booked the En suite room, I am a poor sleeper most of the time but on the sleeper I had a great sleep on all occasions I think the rocking motion does something to my brain, never used the club car though brought my own food a which I ate in my cabin, they don't like you doing that but was not going to pay the inflated prices. Great experience though. I grew up in the Highlands but sadly live further south now I visit family occasionally and had been using the bus to travel up and down which is long and boring and uncomfortable but at Christmas I use the Sleeper train to visit its my treat to myself its worth it. Booked my journey up on 19th December cant wait.
Thanks, Paul. I agree with you: I LOVE sleeper trains! No craziness of airport arrival, departure and security. I've taken them throughout the US, UK, Europe, and India. Often excellent food, and there is nothing like being fully rested for a day of sight seeing or work the next day. Plus, so much better for the environment.
You can't beat the railways in the Scottish Highlands. As a big railway fan and a Scotsman it's just something else when traveling by train in the Scottish Highlands.
I went on a long trip all over the UK late last year with my partner. I've been a few times before, but never to Scotland. After a sleepless 30 hour door-to-door journey to Inverness, a painfully short rest followed by a nervy two hour early morning drive in unfamiliar conditions to Glenfinnan to watch the Jacobite pass over the viaduct, we were in literal tears at how achingly beautiful the scene was. It stayed just as gorgeous (albeit minus the train) the entire rest of the time we spent around there. I've travelled a fair amount and been to some very pretty and interesting places, but the Scottish Highlands shot straight to the top of my list. You've got an amazing home. Scotland, and the Highlands in particular, is awe-inspiringly beautiful and I'm so glad you appreciate it!
My grandfather was from Ft William. How lovely to see a bit of the place he was raised. Always meant to get over there from Canada, maybe one day.Loved the train video. Great video thank you.
There was the proposed Nightstar service in the 1990s. This even got as far as having coaching stock built, but the project was shelved. I think the coaches live on in Canada.
nice idea but the question is probably and has probably always been 'how many people in paris etc really want to be on a train for 15hrs to go to inverness?' a service running empty one way isnt a goer really...
I love this train journey, very fortunate to live close to both Dumbarton Central and Helensburgh Upper - two stops on the line. The land management issues are largely down to the MoD and the Forestry Commission (which does seem to slowly be changing some of its practices, thankfully), I don't think the farms are anywhere near as much to blame. Next time you're in Fort William go up the Nevis Range Gondola, it's well worth a visit. I think it was this company we bought a "title" from for a friend for a present. Good to see they're actually doing some good with the money they make. The cafe in the Fort William station is really nice but I think it's only open morning and early afternoon.
Excellent video Paul! I took the CS to FW at the end of July. This evoked happy memories for me. I found the Sleeper very good but I couldnt sit on those seats in the club car. I'm 6'4" so had to sit in the table seat. I found all the staff on the train very helpful. Keep up the good work!
When I started watching your travel videos I never thought you would be visiting my home village . The less said about the way you pronounce Duror the better .
Hello Paul, glad to see the shower was working properly in your rather smallish room. Things looked modern but tight. I can only say that once again compared to Amtrak (with its very dated equipment) I found your accommodations lacking (especially for what you paid). Why does "modern" always equal skimpy? Every "modern" sleeper train you've been on lately has the same vibe, modern but skimpy airline like seating and barely acceptable accommodations. Frankly, I think we Americans are lucky to have our out-dated, more generous accommodations here. I just hope that the new equipment to come here won't fit the "modern but skimpy" trend that seems to be so prevalent today. The scenery was beautiful and I'm thrilled to be able to ride with you. It makes for a very enjoyable experience.
My wife and I travelled on the old " Deerstalker" . It was a wonderful experience. This journey seemed a bit better than your last trip you did on this route.
I love both the West Highland Line and the Kyle Line, the later not as busy but amazing scenery too, particularly with good views passing Plockton over to the mountains on Skye, I’m lucky to live in Inverness and never get bored of the scenery to Kyle of Lochalsh
The train looks absolutely lovely; but looking at the accommodation options online, I feel that they should consider adding a couchette car. It'd offer a nice mid-point between the seats and the 2-person cabins, and be better for families and other groups. Hopefully they're looking at what ÖBB is doing and taking notes!
I took the Caledonian Sleeper from Inverness to Euston last August. It was okay but two people in one compartment have a hard time moving about. We had the compartment on the end of the carriage and it was quite noisy and bumpy because I think it was over the wheels. On the whole, it was enjoyable but I am not sure I would do it again.
You can easily walk between Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street. Its a 5 minute walk and you would probably have been there quicker than the bus if you count waiting time.
You can walk between Glasgow central and Glasgow queen street in about 5 minutes. Only if you had a lot of luggage or were disabled would you take the bus.
Fantastic video, Paul. The nature reserve looked great and I really need to take the highland sleeper - I agree that the west highland is the best railway line in the uk!
The bed being only 180cm is a big flaw imo, with me being 1,90m. Not being able to fully lie flat is horrible, even though I prefer to sleep in a semi fetus position.
how is it possible to not have ever seen an hedgehog?!? are they that rare in your country?? we have them even in the cities and during the evenings they come out. they are so cute
Great video Paul. Still need to take the Sleeper seeing as i signal them at work every morning shift, in fact you nearly filmed the signal box just south of Wembley Central.
All right what's the story with the US $2 bill in the ranger's office? To those outside of the US.. Yes its real, yes its legal tender, and yes its still being printed (latest run that i know of was in 2017).
No way is this the best sleeper.. the Riveria to Penzance is solid and doesn't rattle... the sleeper scot couldn't even supply hot water for the shower,,
Great vid and the food on the sleeper looked super. I'm glad the service was an improvement as I love the sleeper and want it to be great for everyone. The titles project is very important and vital for our environment and hopefully this sort of work becomes widespread. Incidentally, thank you for the inspiration, I'm on my way to becoming a Laird. Fancy pants or what! Of course not under a kilt.
idiotic to criticise it as 'slow'. what exactly would be the benefit of a fast sleeper that threw you out at 3am in a cold/deserted london/Glasgow/inverness/ft bill etc after only a few hours sleep? asinine take... as for the rest, yep.
Not sure about taking the responsible option. Six of the last 10 videos feature long haul flights in First or Business class. It's like having a Phantom with a sticker in the rear window that says, my other car's a Tesla.
Thanks for explaining this nonprofit. Supporting a nature reserve is a better angle than you get a plot of land and title. They have to do this to get folks attention.
What, am I supposed to just not ever even mention anything negative about flying because I taske planes myself? Half of this channel these days is trains, and yes, people should try to take them over flying, where they are an option. I consistently mention this in my train videos. You'll enjoy the next series I just filmed - Cyprus to London without flying :-D

Two Paul Lucas videos in a span of a few days, am I dreaming?

Loved this! One of the best yet. The nature and the train are breathtaking.
Thank you, Paul. When we return to Scotland, we will take our grandchildren to the Conservation Park. Great information and appreciated 👏 👍

I wish the sleeper was extended down to mainland Europe
Amsterdam Centraal, Brussels Midi/Zuid, & Paris Nord -> Inverness, Aberdeen & Fort William

@@Alexsmith2001yes, the coaches are used on the Ocean train from Montreal to Halifax.

Transport, nature and animals what's not to love?!!

4 things in this video I loved: trains, travel, nature and animals!
What a great video. Highland Titles looks amazing and such fantastic work. Definitely inspired me to try and take a trip up there next summer
What a week, 2 Paul videos!
It's so weird I was literally rewatching your previous Caledonian videos just last night
I particularly enjoyed this video. Thank you for it.

Train accomodations look really good. Thanks Paul.👍👍

5 minutes no chance maybe on roller blades down Buchannan street you must walk fast .
Five minutes? If you run, perhaps. Takes 10-15 minutes, if you walk.
@@Paul_Lucas i used to regularly walk it sub ten mins with a suitcase heading to/from uni. i walk fast though
ScotRail goes through some of the most beautiful countryside in the world. Why do they never clean their windows?
You can walk between Glasgow central and Glasgow queen street in about 5 minutes. Only if you had a lot of luggage or were disabled would you take the bus.
It’s about a 15 minute walk!
What a delightful trip 😊😊😊
Your best video yet Paul.
Great Britain truly is a pretty island.
Fantastic video, Paul. The nature reserve looked great and I really need to take the highland sleeper - I agree that the west highland is the best railway line in the uk!
Wow Paul, this was incredibly well done!!!
Stunning scenery in scotland
Only left an hour using Avanti your a brave man
Ahh Highland titles is just 5 miles up the road from me. Just missed you. Maybe next time 😀
Thank you Paul! Love your train trips.
Thanks Paul I love your train videos 👍

They’re actually very rare in Britain! Almost endangered.
I have my reservations about the whole "titles" thing, but it seems like they're doing good work.
Keep up the good work 👏
G and T, and Baileys, awesome nighties on a train.
What an amazing adventure.
Great video. Love the scenery
Great video Paul
Awesome thanks for sharing your trip with us , I will have whiskey 🥃 bro . Love the views
Love the Scottish scenery 👏🏽
Nice journey
Excellent video Paul.

Definitely ordering the haggis since we can't get it in the US.
Great video
The Braised Pork meal with a Good Single Malt Scotch!
Good video with a different aspect. Definitely prefer the Scottish scenery to London though!
Lovely. Greetings from Canada.
Superb
Good video, very interesting of the Animals, Fort William lovely place,l would like to ride the train journey 😊

I hope you enjoyed your visit as much as I did!

One hundred and eighty centimetres?
That's only five ' eleven!
Such beautiful scenery, have you ever traveled thru Norway and Denmark and Sweden?.
I'd like to go on this but I snore so it wouldn't be fair on the other passengers. I guess I could just buy a normal seat and stay up all night.
I’d have been interested in the prices for this trip.
Was that a $2 bill taped to the wall in the highland titles office?
I’d do a bit more research before branding Scotland’s farmers as practising ‘over farming’
The sleeper is INCREDIBLE
Incredibly uncomfortable
Incredibly noisy
Incredibly slow
Incredibly poor value

@@andrewyoung749 you have no idea what you are talking about, so get your mother to lock you in the attic at night - in fact all day
Why in this country do we not clean the outside of trains properly? This would never happen in Japan. Not a very good advert for this sleeper service.
@@Robin-at-Longcross-UK. Especially when you're selling the view!
Good video Paul, though your title isn't quite right :)
I'd order Bunnahabhain 12 year old 46%.
Watch out for hackers 😁🙃
You must be well off. Min price for sleeper is 300!!!
This doesn't really tie in with the vast majority of reviews on this problematic service.
Anyone watched Nightsleeper yet?
No I haven’t, but apparently the journey takes 6 weeks !
