You guys are the best. Honestly, thank you all so much for the kind words! I can't wait to show you our new place.
In the intro I made the mistake of saying "hundreds of thousands" instead of "hundreds and thousands", which is quite different!
In the UK, I was paying around £3.5K a year in tuition fees and as I'm from a low income family I was taking well over double this in maintenance loans - so as you can imagine, it adds up.
Tuition fees are now around £9K a year and architect's salaries have barely changed.
Students decide to take on this debt at 17...
Should I make a video on this?
yes plz
Yes please. Had the opportunity to pursue architecture after my construction course but decided not to after I learned that it would take me about 8 years to get fully qualified only to then be in an overcrowded and underpaid profession. I have actually done some small-scale design work for people since then which pays just fine as long as I don't claim to be a chartered architect 😅 The system is broken
Can’t wait!! Good luck with life abroad.
Do it!!
As someone who has done vocational training and also been to Uni, yes I do think you should.
I would love to see a course on building design principles for an ordinary person. I am moving to France later in the year and buying an old house to renovate. I want to change the layout and alter the back of the roof to let more light in. I am meeting an architect in September when in France but I dread the bureaucracy involved. I am following you and interested to see what you do next. Good luck 👍
I second this. Simple design principles that can be taught to the general public can inspire thousands of different possibilities of what we can do.
Bonne chance pour ton projet ! In which region of France do you plan to move to ? Cheers from Paris :-)
@@raphaelbaudoin5635. Lot-Et-Garonne, I Hope to be there in October.
Welcome to France 😊
yes!!!
Congratulations on your move, Daniel! I'm interested in how a UA-camr makes money and behind the scenes of how you create your videos from start to finish and what devices/programs you used in creating your videos. Also, I'm curious as to how you planned this move. Glad everything is working out for you and your family, and good sailing on your new adventures
Congratulations on your family’s new chapter. Would love to hear more about how you made your inventory. I made two for when I moved to Japan a few years back and it was so useful.
Canada is a little too cold for my tastes. I opted for Seville. But good luck to you Sir. The UK has become almost uninhabitable and admire you for taking the plunge and moving so far away.
He chose Vancouver, BC, which is the warmest part of Canada. In late February, it's 8C and a little rainy. Our coldest days of winter, we get a few days of 0C and some snow.
What do you do for work? Seville sounds like the dream 😂
@@MyFocusVaries I'd say that Victoria is a little warmer.
@@Mickyway Bad (very bad) food, depressing weather, cost of living, rubbish work-life balance, rubbish working conditions, service sector economy, few worker’s rights, anything fun like beer, cinema etc is a rip off and just generally boring.
@@Mickyway No, I never ate takeaways. Prices in the supermarket were becoming unaffordable. Good working conditions should be for everyone, not just those in the public sector. Getting a job shouldn’t be a game of Russian roulette. The UK isn’t worth the hassle. Also, infrastructure in general is 💩. Trains are unbearable and unaffordable.
Good on ya, Daniel, and welcome to Canada. I came to Toronto from London 20-odd years ago. Vancouver is darned expensive by Canadian standards but what a beautiful place to raise your family. All the best and thanks for the interesting content.
It’s been interesting watching your journey thus far…I’m sure that the best is yet to come. Good luck to you and your family Daniel.
i like your humble and calm attitude, your sence for visual esthetics and of course your redesigns of rooms!
keep up doing what yo do.
Yes! We need more people like you! I love that you and your family made the decision to redesign your life to prioritize what really matters.
I actually find that this comes more easily to people such as yourself who are living a minimalist lifestyle, as you get very good at discerning what is needed and what is not. It might start with your physical space and belongings, but then trickles into all aspects of your life.
I’m in Calgary, but grew up in southern BC. Welcome to Canada, and I can’t wait to see things unfold in your new space. 🌲🌿🍁
What a wonderful opportunity for you and your family. I love watching everything you create, as I get closer to retirement and possibly downsizing my home this is truly interesting. I enjoy watchng a "real" journey including all the bumps in the road.
Thank you for sharing so openly. Very brave of you to confront these issues so honestly. Good of you to share.
Congratulations! Here's wishing you and your family all the very best in your new home. I'm looking forward to your new video content in Vancouver.
Left in 1988, went to Hong Kong to live, traveled far and wide. It was the best thing that I ever did. I still live there, I visit the UK for holidays only.
Congratulations guys!!! Sounds like you are super excited about the change, which I am definitely sure that will translate into an even better channel
Congratulations on your move to Canada, Daniel! I’m looking forward to see your new apartment and I would also love to hear more about the inventory you made.
I'd like to hear more about your inventory and also keen for tutorials! Congratulations on the move! Sounds amazing!
Wishing you and family the best in the next big adventure ... also trust your mum is doing well. Onward!
Welcome to Canada! You will love it here. Good luck with everything. Excited to know about your future endeavours.
I can't wait to see your new home and designs! I am also subscribing to Curiosity. Congrats to you and your family!
I cannot wait to see the future growth of you, your family, and this channel. Congratulations on taking the plunge!
Sad to see you go but super excited to follow you on your new journey. Was really looking forward to stealing some ideas from your garden office design for my garden office !!
Congratulations. Really looking forward to where you take the channel next. Thank you for your honesty
Congratulations on your move! I'm excited to see what your new space will look like! I am sure it's going to be awesome!
Good luck with the new chapter! Moving house, city, country and/or continent is always an exciting adventure.
Such a cool video. As a Canadian, Vancouver is always a place to aspire to live in because it is so unreachable to most due to its high living costs. It is interesting to see your perspective where Vancouver is considered a budget alternative to UK!
I don't think so!
Vancouver is definitely more expensive than the UK!
A lot of places in UK I suppose but certainly not London, also keep in mind, you may also get more for your money. A lot of Housing in the UK is just horrible. Bad heating and mold is common. @@Barnacl3_Boi
If you want to live in Vancouver proper its getting up there with London. It also has an insane drug and homeless problem that everyone there likes to brush under the carpet.Crime is on the rise and random stranger attacks. Its also cold socially compared with other cities. I was born there and lived there most of my life. I'm living in Montreal now. Getting tired of Canada honestly. Its so limited here and a limited way of thinking. Don't get me wrong , I love my country as I do my hometown.. but a lot has changed.
I lived in Richmond BC and both Richmond and more so VAN are absurdly unaffordable. Especially infeasible for people with a family of more than one child, as you may see eventually. It’s also a really unfriendly and overly surveillance and authoritarian place (like Canada generally). Hell no.
You flew over the pond! Oh man I hope you enjoy it! Would love to see yearly updates on how it’s all going
looking forward to the new apartment videos! I've just installed the besta ikea storage system in white into my home office and I absolutely love it. I've had my eye on it since you showed them in your dining room. I thought about submitting my space for a makeover but I've been taking away a lot of notes from your redesigns. I love my space even more now. Thank you!!
Congrats on the move and welcome to Canada! Vancouver and the surrounding area is just gorgeous. Emjoy!
Welcome to Vancouver!!! I introduced your channel to my husband and he loved them. 😆 He noticed your map of Vancouver and thought it would be so cool to have someone like you in Vancouver… and here you are! Very excited for you and your family!!!
Have come to love your content - hope you can design and create a lot more now. Looks like a great move!
didn't expected to see you here sir
Thanks so much man!
are maiya eh kya dhk liya?
Modi bhakt is here 😂
Didn't expect to see you here. You should delete this comment.
Beautiful family! Very happy for u guys
Congratulations on the move, hopefully it brings you much joy! Would love a video on compiling the inventory and the thought process behind it. I've done a similar thing for my wardrobe taking inspiration from your minimal living videos
All the very best with the new chapter looking forward to seeing more
What an adventure! Love love Vancouver! Excited to see the new content! Enjoy!
Congrats on the move, Daniel! Hello from Brooklyn where space is also small and expensive which is why I love watching your channel. I’m excited for what’s ahead.
Welcome to Canada! Glad to have you and I hope you enjoy our open spaces!!!
Makes complete sense! We ditched London a couple of years ago and never looked back. We originally moved to Broadstairs, and would like like to move back there one day, but for now we're in Norfolk, 5 minutes walk from my parents. Our 2 year old loves seeing his grandparents.
And... we have an actual house.
nice choice,i love Vancouver
Good luck in Vancouver, Daniel! Actually a very good friend from there moved to Tokyo and is now living here really close to where we live. I actually introduced him to Notion a while ago, and speaking of which, I'd love to hear more about your process around assessing and decluttering your belongings prior to the move. Maybe you can sell that Notion template? ;)
I wanna start using notion, just not sure about the security as it's not end-to-end encrypted? because I do write a lot more personal stuff on my notes probably passwords too! what do you guys think? is it safe?
Much happiness for you and your family, Daniel!!!
Best of luck in your new adventure, I for one will still be watching your tube videos. 🙌🏼
What a surprise! Good luck on your new life in Vancouver!
The farewell to the apartment in London is really a bittersweet thing but I’m looking forward to see the videos of your new home and studio.
As a minimalist, I’m also interested in your Notion list of your belongings made for moving.
Congratulations on the move and the new apartment! Sounds exciting.
amazing news! Good luck with everything in Vancouver and I can't wait your design projects of the future apartment!
Congratulations on your move. I'm sure its been a busy few months of you! I'm looking forward to seeing your future content and what you do with your new apartment.
I've never heard of people coming to Vancouver for a cheaper lifestyle 😅. Welcome, I wish you and your family a wonderful fulfilling life here!
Thats so stupid to go from one expensive place to another one way more expensive.. and boring.. unbelivable )))
@@mybest2338 way more expensive? But he said that it‘s way more affordable for them this way than living in London oO
@@ftmint He didn't say "more" expensive, he said from one expensive place to another. Plus Vancouver has a shitty weather and it def isn't as lively as London. But whatever lol no judgement here. London is extremely expensive and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who makes less than 4k a month.
@@newleft2254 Canada/Vancouver is cheaper than England/London. Put it this way, I once paid £10 for one cup of coffee. 😂
@@Tom-pe4iw they also have $14 coffee in Vancouver 😂 I love how people underestimate how expensive Vancouver is
congrats and can't wait to see what unfolds in this new chapter . Vancouver is awesome
Keep on doing your amazing work! We'll keep on supporting you. Love from Cape Town
Good luck to you and your family. I love your channel and your communication style. Looking forward to seeing the next chapter.
Will miss having you guys on this side of the pond, but can't wait to see the newly designed flat when you move in!
Congratulations on your move! Sounds like it's a really good decision for your family. My husband and I live in downtown Vancouver (across from the main library) and if you need any help or assistance, we'd be delighted help out.
Happy For you! New chapter for the family 🙏🙏
Congratulations!! Vancouver is one of my favorite cities! I look forward to your new adventures there.
Congrats Daniel! I'm so proud of you and your family. I used to live in Vancouver for ten years, and a fantastic city!
I’m so happy that you and your family feel better in Vancouver! I was a little stressed out when I see the topic of the video…
I have no patience to see the new studio! 😍
Best wishes for you both!! Happy for you!! Congrats!
Good luck on the new journey in Vancouver! 😊🙌🏻 excited to see more content. 😊
Exciting new start! I'm glad you get to enjoy her world now! I'm sure your content will just keep getting better and better!
as a fan of your channel and resident in Toronto. congrats on your move and welcome to Canada!!
Have a lovely time in Canada, Daniel! Bless you, your daughter and your missus, hope you enjoy yourself in Vancouver
Good luck in your new place and with your plans and projects. I love your content and I've learned a lot from you. Take care!
I'm so happy for you, can't wait to see what videos you are coming up with
I’ve been following you since your first video. I’m looking forward for more content especially the design of your new home! Kudos to you man!
Good luck in Vancouver! I love your Re-design series. Keep it up!
Welcome to Vancouver! I've been subscribed for while and it's exciting to have you in the city. I am disappointed that you aren't going ahead with the garden office build as I was certainly looking forward to seeing that. It was giving me a lot of inspiration for my own garage in the city. Vancouver has some amazing food that I'm sure you'll get to experience. One of the things that you won't find on most recommendation lists is to enjoy a movie at the Twilight Drive In theatre in Langley. If you have a car, it's a lot of fun for a date night. Hope you enjoy the city!
I’m going to miss you visiting small London properties, and showcasing great architecture. Not sure if the Canadian equivalent will hit the same for someone who lives in the UK. Best of luck and look forward to seeing what’s to come👍🏻
Congratulations on the move, Daniel! I think you’ll love living in Vancouver. I’m excited for you and your family and I’m looking forward to all your future content post-move.
Well. Can't wait to see your own home makeover and also the architect's redesign serie. This video was actually a REALLY good news since as a subscriber I love watching your videos
So excited for your new chapter!!
Welcome to Canada! Looking forward to seeing how this effects your channel’s content! ❤️
Really dig your content Daniel, I'm super jealous, I love Vancouver lived there when I first moved away from my home country, enjoy it!
Just left Britain for southern Italy where my wife comes from. I don’t regret it for a second
Hope you are prepared for the ever increasing temperatures. 🥵
Should have taken me with you !
Thanks for telling us your story. I’m currently renovating a tiny studio in Melbourne Australia in the sport/art precinct while about to build a shed loft house in the country to replace my house destroyed by a storm! Your channel provides so much inspiration. Looking forward to this next chapter for both of us!!!
im so happy for you. good luck for the future but dont go away and keep doing your amazing videos
Excited for this new season for you, Daniel! Can't wait to see the content you make decorating your apartment.
I would be interested in the Notion set up you mentioned and how the financial work for you as a UA-camr.
Hi Dan, haven’t watched in a while. Really impressed that you emigrated with so few cases! Hope it goes well....look forward to seeing your new enterprise!
Good luck with the new apartment and the new city! Your skills, creativity, and knowledge will work anywhere.
Daniel, I can see your excitement about this new place. I'm happy for you man. Respect for making a decision that works out better for you!
You are amazing Daniel! Your video are so resourceful and so well made and you are such an inspiring guy. Wishing the best from New Zealand.
Oh my word! I am so happy for you guys!
May God continue to keep watch over you bro. God bless...
Congratulations to your move to Vancouver Daniel! I hope you have a great experience there and more creative videos too! 🙂
Looking forward to your new content. And congrats on the move! Now you’re just a few of hours away from Seattle where I live.
I'm so excited for you guys! Me and my husband are moving to Vancouver as well by January 2023, so a more in depth video of the process would be super nice. Maybe sharing the notion template? ❤
Vancouver is insanely expensive... ))) never never go there
Buzzing for you guys, also looking forward to the content in the future now you have more free time! All the best in the future!
I’ve been watching your videos on UA-cam for a while now and was amazed I’d never seen this one. I’m very interested in what you do, as I am in a similar situation, having moved out of a very big home I had inherited from my parents and into smaller and more suitable lodgings closer to my children. Funnily enough, I started off studying architecture, too, and also had a professor tell us that most of us would get nowhere once we were finished - and the architecture curriculum included a lot of classes that I absolutely hated. I ended up doing something I enjoyed more and don’t regret it a minute. I’ll be interested in seeing what you do and how you continue. I’ve been a member of Curiosity Stream for a while - thanks for daring to do what you really love and good luck to you and your family.
Wow very exciting news, looking forward to the new chapter!
Very well done Daniel and family with your move! Hope it turns out for the best!
Absolutely can't wait to see those upcoming apartment-related videos, as well as anything related to organizing all your stuff!
I'm in the process of moving to a new apartment myself, and I definitely look forward to new and clever ideas regarding apartment design, decor and overall organization.
Cheers from Croatia! 😄✌
Congratulations on your move! I’m moving internationally is a dream for many and a reality for few. Good luck to you and your family in Vancouver!
I was wondering where you’ve been! I was missing seeing updates ! Welcome to North America !
Good luck for your move and new beginnings.
You really inspire people do to great things ahead, Daniel. Can't wait for your collab videos and also your apartment and office set up. As me and my wife are also moving next week to New Zealand. Keep inspiring and will be looking forward. Cheers!
I'm sad that London has become so out of reach, it's a fantastic city. I love your channel and the content, thanks for sharing this news and welcome to Canada.
I am very interested in seeing content on all of the topics that you mentioned. Welcome to Canada!
Hello from Cyprus Daniel and family. Bravo on the decision you both made. Takes faith, strength and courage. I love your videos especially because you are down to earth and give a lot of useful advise. We moved to Cyprus from Dubai and in the last two years moved to a small village for the same reasons you moved to Vancouver. Downsizing while renting was not that challenging, finding a permanent home for everything we decided to keep in a semi furnished house without wardrobes, however still is. You’ve helped me. Thank you.
All the best, Daniel. I look forward to your future content from Vancouver.
Welcome to Vancouver! Hope you like this amazing city!
Hello Daniel. Welcome to Vancouver (my hometown). I've been following you for a couple years for your minimalist space design. I look forward to new content as you design your living space.
Sabine, what part of germany you came from before moving to Vancouver ?
Daniel I just came across your channel this week and I love love love your content. I am very impressed with the high quality and professionalism of your videos, and more so as you shared this was not natural to you. Your enthusiasm for self improvement resonates with me as does your design atheistic; whilst I fear I could never be a full minimalist, the calm it brings to a space has got me thinking about my own space and how I move through it. I am very interested to see this next chapter of your life and how you use the new square footage. Mind you with a child they do eat up the bulk of any floor plan. I look forward to more and may I as a daughter of Londeners, welcome to Canada!
Congratulations! I hear Vancouver is a great place to live. It would definitely be on my shortlist. I would definitely like to hear about your inventory project prior to moving. We have taken over my parents' old home and are now embarking on simplification, starting with a triage (keep, sell, give-away/junk). So, any time you are ready Daniel 😉
I can't wait for the coming content! And yes, more of this please :D
As a young student, living on my own in the expensive city of Sydney, I too am making a move to a more affordable place close to old friends and family. Thanks for the inspiring video!
