Would be cool to see how people use these things or whether it's an annual spring cleaning job of scanning and organising. I imagine leaving it out rather than packing it away is a good way to scan paper little and often.
Seconding this. Already paired my iPhone down to just one screen of apps as opposed to multi-screens based on a video you made about clearing ALL your apps off your iPhone's homepage (couldn't quite take it THAT far).
(Please make a pinned comment along thse lines!) If you recommend something to digitise your paperwork, that's probably a great tip for minimalist homes. BUT at the same time you HAVE to stress the importance of proper data backup! I'd guess your audience is more focused on the Design aspect of your channel and might not know how to properly protect digital data, so here's the TLDR: Always keep 3 copies of your data (digital protection in case windows messes up or you accidentally delete something) on at least 2 different mediums (e.g. your PC and an external hard drive to protect against physical failure like a dying Laptop or drive) and keep one copy off-site (e.g. Google drive or similar or a pasword protected external drive at a friend's home, in case your apartment befalls a major catastrophe.) In short, follow the 3-2-1 rule!
It's not that serious. Unless you are running an business, keeping things in one local and one cloud solution will do. Cloud services are already reinforced against data loss, and if it for some crazy reason either fails, you have the other one. Easiest way to solve this is by just having local folder synced to cloud. Personally I have NAS, since I store a lot of data and documents I really want to protect are further copied into cloud. But I would be pretty happy with just cloud if not for my other needs. As long as you are using decent cloud service that has versioning and you can recover data, your data is really safe.
Having paper copies can be important for legal matters too. You never know what strange legal situation may arise in the future. Having a paper copy of those documents can change the outcome for you.
It's a bit of a bugger though. Yes it works, but it's useless if you're in any sort of hurry because it takes the scan whether your piece of paper is in focus or not. I relied on my Iphone to scan my daughter's enrolement documents for highschool and had to rescan the whole document of more than 20 pages, 3 times because the pages were unreadable.
I agree with the other commenters, Bose do sell the replacement pads, they might seem a bit costly, but in my mind, it’s cheaper than forking out for new headphones. I have tried the Amazon replacements (non branded) and they were not as good - they needed to be as a I was wearing them for hours at a time, so I got Bose originals. I’m also in London and the dehumidifier was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. You don’t have to have a damp (in the literal sense) flat to use one. The heating is not on as much anymore and they are not expensive to run. The biggest benefit was last summer with our heatwave. Having it suck out all the moisture in the air was a game changer. Clothes dry in next to no time and the difference to my skin and complexion was very noticeable too.
I have long been a fan of Wacao, having purchased the original minipresso and then upgraded to the nanopresso. it's just such easy, portable mechanics for making espresso without constantly needing to buy and replace the paper filters. i'm still amazed by the air pressure it manages to produce to extract so much flavour our of barely any grounds. i have primarily done it using hot water, but have on occasions followed their instructions and made with cold/iced water as well for a speedy cold brew. it's simply a versatile, compact little machine
Came here to say this. I have the minipresso and coffee quality out of it beats the aeropress all day every day Been eyeing off the picopresso with its 18g basket for a while now too
I have a miniepresso and default to Aeropress everytime as the minipresso is too fiddly to clean, and you also have to press 2 shots as the output is very small, so takes ages to open up, clean out the grounds, and go again vs the aeropress.
I have a different model of the Nutribullet and I love it. Use it constantly. I’ve also switched over to the Aeropress for months now. Use it daily along with my burr grinder and Fellow kettle. Love taking the Aeropress on trips too, like camping

Though you need a stovetop, Moka pots are easier to use and more cost effective, since you don't need and paper filters in a specific shape, like the aeropress does.
Hi Daniel, thanks for this amazing video. I am a nutribullet owner and I have to warn you to make sure you properly clean it periodically. You’d need to disassemble the base to reach the dirt that accumulates from using it. Otherwise it will smell bad and accumulate mould over time. Take care!
When scanning your documents you should really have a good backup solution. For documents a cloud solution might be alright, depending on how private they are. Don't depend too much on one hard drive or ssd.
since the files are probably not that big a couple clones on 16-32gb flash drives should be more than enough (depends on how often you wanna backup), even the free tiers of online cloud services (google drive gives 15gb free) should be able to store a digitized cabinet of documents, for extra security you can make a new account not connected to anything just for the backup

Great video, you've given me some inspiration! I would mention, I've used the Kasa smart bulbs for a few years. They've been great and I love the fact they have a circadian mode that constantly adjusts brightness and temperature throughout the day. Hands down my must have feature in light bulbs. For coffee its quite less expensive having a manual grinder. Yes, it’s slower but never more than the time that water needs to boil. Also, they are small and some of them have a really nice design!

Hi Daniel, great video. That I have saved in a playlist to revisit cos I really like some of the solutions/products. What I am missing is timestamps for the individual product segments. Those would come in handy when revisting...
Apart from the steep price, the problem I see with the this (or any other) Compact ADF scanner is that you need to keep (and sometimes use) the originals of many documents anyway. It's not like you can just scan your work or rental contract and then just throw away the original as they wouldn't be helpful in a legal situation. Same goes for most governmental paperwork and so on. You can only do that for less important stuff which can you can also just take photos of with your phone and then just throw away. 600 bucks saved. This scanner doesn't really solve the problem it sets out to solve.
Agree, I use a scanner app on my iPhone. No need for a scanner. 👍 My iphone is my camera, address book, music player, scanner, map, telephone, entertainment…. Best purchase ever.
@Wendell Shorteyes could also rinse the dishes you use, pack INTO the dishwasher, and wait to turn on the washer until you're down to your last set or two.
Lol no you don't save water. Its far easier to wash uo straight away. yoh have kne thing to wash them that takes 20 seconds and barely any water and no stupid expensive dish washing tablets. Sorry but dish washers are for lazy people that throe stuff in the sink walk away and let it pile up. If your mum taught up to pause what ever your watching and spend 20 seconds washing it in the first plave life eould be simpler. But let me guess, you don't want to.
@@kenichi1132 Sorry, but you have a lot of opinion for someone who has no clue. Dishwashers safe a huge amount of water, compared to washing up by hand. Look it up online. Plus sponges and brushes used for washing up carry huge amounts of bacteria if not dried properly. Imagine eating from a plate that's been cleaned with a cloth that carries more bacteria than your toilet seat. Enjoy your meals :)
Minimalist alternatives to everything in this video: 0:00 - Use your phone. Just make sure your lights have OSS / Self-hosted software so you don't end up rethinking your choices when some server goes down
Thank you for your tips! I will definitely consider the scanner! paper clutter causes me so much stress.😣 also, now that you are a parent...any tips or tech for parents? or possibly a nursery/toddler room design? I have a toddler and I'm in the process of designing her room. please & thank you!😊
If you can believe it, I moved from Abbotsford, Bc to Para, Brazil. I know what you mean when you referred to the dry climate there in the Fraser valley. Especially compared to the extremely humid climate here in Northern Brazil.
Hi Daniel, the simplest way to make coffee for me is with phin, a Vietnamese coffee dripper. You just need to pour the hot water into the dripper. It's easy to wash, no need paper filter, and no need for extra effort and technique to pour the water into the dripper.
for ANC headphones i can vouch for Edifier W820NB, they're pretty cheap at around $50-$60 with good sound quality and decent ANC which would be more than enough for in home usage :)
Scansnap is a great investment. In each of my new work place ( three over the years) I made my boss invest in it despite the price. No regrets as it saves me time and provide good quality scans at such a compact machine. And the longevity of these scanners make the investment over the years a great one. Happy Holidays to you and THANK YOU for your videos and insights, it has helped me in many aspects of my own life.
I'm a single mother living in CA. Been working so hard so I can retire at 50 if things keep going well for me. Bought my first condo this month and I can't be more proud than I am right now. I'm so glad I made good decisions about my finances that changed me forever.
Hey, I’m super proud of you. I wish you can take your time to give me a little guide on how to fix my finances. I’m in a mess right now and any tip from you would really go a long way.
Hey sweetie. Apparently, I used the FIRE movement to put my finances in shape. You can research more about it. Then, lnvested in stocks, crypto-currencies and real estates crowdfunding through the assistance of an lnvestment pro I was able to achieve a lot.
Aeropress is nice if you are alone and are either bit of an coffee nerd or on tight budget. But my parents literally bought be cheap coffee machine out of blue so that when they come over they can make coffee without hassle for more than one person :D
In terms of pure convenience, I think a superautomatic espresso machine is simply unbeatable. You turn it on (or have it turn on on a timer), put a cup under the "portafilter", push a button and you'll have an espresso/Americano/etc. in about a minute. They do have some drawbacks (i.e. they may make slightly worse coffee than an equivalently priced setup). But to me, they're what pods-based machines want to be, but better-tasting, easier, and cheaper on the long run (or medium, if you drink a lot of coffee. Nespresso pods are *so expensive*). If, like me, you drink a lot of coffee but aren't a coffee snob, consider one!
Exactly! I don't even understand how this would help that much. Literally ANY significant importance document has to stay in a physical copy... Seems like a waste of money.
For us millenials who grew up in the analogue system, you have to be mindful of the carbon footprint that going digital makes. We might not have a literal ctrl f, but we know which and what is stored in whatever. The campaign to go digital only make the benefit of researching other people's work and uploading everything online for collaborative work.
I found a barista espresso machine with steam pipe and its only 15cm width. Its the de loghi dedica. Also it supposed to give hot water as well for thee or something.
Not sure why you’d buy a scanner like ScanSnap when you can use an app like turboscan that can pdf your docs by taking a picture? Feels like that would be both faster and cheaper?
I will fight you about coffee! The best, easiest and space saving solution is a stove top traditional italian espresso maker. It takes less than 5 minutes and you use the stove top space to make it so it doesn't need extra counter space. I also leave it on the stove top permanently even while not using, instead of on a kitchen cabinet.
Nespresso Virtuo is by far the easiest, smallest, and best performing for the price at $130. I’ve never been a pod coffee person but the coffee out of an Nespresso is amazing and it takes 5 seconds of effort. For me, the quality outweighs the price for pods (~2$ a pod) and it’s much cheaper compared to $5-8 for a good cup of coffee at a shop.
If you want to find the best gear for your home - specifically the kitchen - you should check out the America's Test Kitchen UA-cam channel. Look for their gear videos.
What you need is the mind to not buy unnecessary things. That simple thing should do the magic..These gadgets are going to pile up in few months if we don't change our behaviour.
A scanner like this is useless. Firstly because of course you can scan all your paperwork but then what? Are you gonna throw away the originals?? And ok, you digitize everything. Don't you also have to print a file these eventually? You also need a printer!! An all in one machine is the best choice for this!!!

Aeropress is nice if you are alone and are either bit of an coffee nerd or on tight budget. But my parents literally bought be cheap coffee machine out of blue so that when they come over they can make coffee without hassle for more than one person :D
You should checkout the CBC market place report on air purifiers. Its an eye opener with air purifiers.
Coffee frappe... sounds delicious. ..
Really interesting video, thanks Daniel
The ADF scanner looks enticing.
thanks for the great video Dan! Would be great if you can share your smart home setup in a video next time!
The scanner sounds great, but so much of the paper I need to keep holds a wet signature and/or notarization. How do you handle those documents?
Exactly! I don't even understand how this would help that much. Literally ANY significant importance document has to stay in a physical copy... Seems like a waste of money.
There are replacement Bose pads on Amazon. Definitely worth it.
Did you know that you can get aftermarket ear cushions for you headphones?
I think it's a great way to avoid some e-waste!
Also it supposed to give hot water as well for thee or something.
does the Air purifier works for Pet's hair?
Great Video 👌👌
How did you light up the back of your desk?
Not sure why you’d buy a scanner like ScanSnap when you can use an app like turboscan that can pdf your docs by taking a picture? Feels like that would be both faster and cheaper?
is it better to save a lump sum then do your room or buy things part by part and do it that way.
Links for the coffee set up would be appreciated!
i think you can get replacement pads for the bose headphones
the Office app can also make PDF's with the camera of your phone, the app is free.
i 100% stand by my aeropress as well.
i should probably be studying for my exams, but this is way nicer.
ima go study now
yep me too building physics exam this saturday .. nice 😎
You can get new earpads for the Bose for relatively cheap compared to a new set of headphones.
i’ve owned a nutri bullet for the past ten years!
You should try wacaco picopresso, much better espresso maker then AeroPress.
Give us more on that coffee set up please. Or did I miss it?! Lol
Helo sir is it free to redesign... hope so cause my kitchen is my problem what design fits it location.
Now. Have we thought about moka pots? I love mine to death.
04:14 “Come on guys, who farted yesterday at 7pm?”
😂🙉
How good is a NutriBullet!
Daniel, please do a home tour of your Vancouver apartment.
@@joeybeaver thank you for letting me know :)
No Moka pot?
Where is the shirt from?
This might sound strange, so advance apologies. I have become a fan of your British English accent.
Oof - that scanner is pricey! I really like the idea of it but I don't think I can justify the price.
You probably know this, but you can get new earpads for your Bose headphones giving them another lease of life.
I don’t undestand the need for a scanner. There are apps on the phone that do that. TurboScan is an example.
If you want to find the best gear for your home - specifically the kitchen - you should check out the America's Test Kitchen UA-cam channel. Look for their gear videos.
I spotted some Ugmonk in there ;) Do you like gather?
What you need is the mind to not buy unnecessary things. That simple thing should do the magic..These gadgets are going to pile up in few months if we don't change our behaviour.
You don’t need a scanner. You can have a phone app that does just as well. The rest i agree with.
I've never heard anyone call Vancouver "dry".
When did you go to Vancouver?? I thought you were in London living with the Mammy??

@@callia9176 Thanks for that. Missed that one.
I find the scanner dispensable. There are many great apps that scan documents perfectly.
Well smoothie is not better then raw. But who wanna each raw spinach in the morning xD
A scanner like this is useless. Firstly because of course you can scan all your paperwork but then what?
Are you gonna throw away the originals??
And ok, you digitize everything. Don't you also have to print a file these eventually?
You also need a printer!!
An all in one machine is the best choice for this!!!
❤
