Dear Americs's cup broadcast team. I will be forever thankful that you are sharing a great broadcast for free on youtube worldwide. This is such a treat for those of us who rarely get to follow sailing events on our local TVs. But... could you please not put spoilers in the video title? A lot of us are at work during the live stream and come here afterwards to watch the day's matches.
But everyone moans about poor coverage, but very few thank them for such excellent video etc. for free. Thank you whoever posts this here for us who just can’t get coverage any other way.
Go to UA-cam and use the right search string: "Louis Vuitton 37th America's Cup Race 5 | Emirates Team New Zealand vs INEOS Britannia" Just change the race number. Works for me :-).
FFS, couldn't the coverage have shown the build up to and the actual moment the New Zealand boat got back up on foil. Surely that would have been more interesting than watching the other boat cruising along.

I think that anyone who had an interest in the technical side of things would be have been very interested to see how ETNZ did it. How long did it take ? One or two foils down ? What angle to the wind ? What wind speed ? Lucky gust ? And so on.
A few comments suggesting it wasn't a race because the NZ boat fell off its foils - that is not the fault of Ineos Britannia. It is just a mistake by team NZ. If someone falls off their bike in a track pursuit, is the race meaningless? Surely its better that the best sailors win each race?
In a way it’s similar to Luna Rosa having 2 mechanical failures after winning most of her other heats. In this race Ineos didn’t show any superiority in tactics or sailing skills; they just had to finish. We’ll see what the future brings.

They won two races today. Made it to the final. They deserve to be there, and today, out sailed their opponent. No one cries about other teams messing up in F1.

The reality of Race 5 was NZ was 2min 15 secs behind at the first mark yet only 1min 15 sec behind at the finish Possibly had NZ not fallen off the foils they may have won by a minute or more....
Was wondering about that too. My guess is that they saw what happened to NZ and did whatever extra distance they needed to gain safe speed for turn, as NZ wasn't a threat anyway
I wish someone could explain what happens when the race supervisor says they are ‘shortening the course etc’ do they actually go out and drag the the yellow buoys to a new point .. ? Surely they are anchored to the seabed .. ? Can anyone help explain this to me please .. thanks

@@gopalharlow353 as a non-sailer I used to enjoy learning about the art of sailing; picking wind shifts, changing sails throughout a race to suit conditions etc. Now it’s pretty much pedal to the metal, with seemingly little tactical skill needed. Each to their own, but I dont sense the same fanatical following here in NZ as there used to be. Even the commentators seem a bit bored…and im not just talking about this race.
Yes, in Barca today and GBR fans relatively thin on the ground. I've seen Kiwis walking about with tiny babies - travelling right around the world to support. Whatever happens next, full respect to the NZL massive. 🇬🇧🏆🇳🇿🍻

This commentator, NOT Glen, is a loudmouth and covers up so much of the important comms coming off the boats, whilst leaving us in no doubt that he is way out of his depth here. Otherwise AWESOME coverage!
The point is, not a race to see who can go the slowest. There has been the odd good racing, but too little and too far between. Been watching for many years and I must say it is most disappointing. Teams are great Barcelona on my list to get a tan, if that helps.
I really,really hate the "upskirt" shots of cyclor's legs going up and down and dripping sweat. This is a yacht race for god's sake so please just show yachts racing.

The hippocracy of the commentators is unbelievable!!! They have been racing so close, how can half a kilometre or more be made up in these conditions??? Please restrain yourself from verbal dioria, or put a better commentators.

As a kiwi … after watching the team sell out to the corporates, then hear if they win this cup they won’t race in NZ … like a lot of other kiwis … I’m happy to watch them lose
I like the boats - cool stuff, watching sailing is rarely very exciting even as a active regatta sailor but watching this is ... sooo boring --- you have to scroll thru hours of footage to find one single race which is not decided at the start or first leg. the only moving crew are the poor cyclist under deck. And the poor commentators have to make a big thing out of it - tough job
Poor job by kiwis good job by British + mind numbing commentary = unexciting satisfactory results. I recon the racing needs to be longer to make it feel more substantial allowing for passing lanes. Wind limits are too low.

Irrelevant tbh. The only part that matters is who takes the point. Then later in the month the only thing that matters is who takes the AC home. In a year, ten years, twenty years the NZ team dropping off the foils will be a tiny footnote that’s only important if they don’t retain the Cup.

Shame our coverage on you tube was marred by commercial breaks , you think that even a morron would resume coverage from where it left off . not our guys every time they put a add break in we loose half a lenght of the course. It would be like watching the All blacks then having an add break and while you are watching the adds they score a converted try . this is just plain laziness thanks alot Dalton
I just watched race 5 and does anyone agree that Emirates NZ fell off their foils on purpose to allow an advantage and win for INEOS UK? I maybe wrong but look rather suspicious that they did.
Have to be honest I wondered the same thing. Although I really hope not. But the luffed out their sails as they turned and just let off all their power! That is either the mistake that dropped them off the foils, or it was a poorly designed bluff
This the most stupid excuse for a sailing competition ever invented. There is no reason why they should be foiling apart from going fast. Who cares. Going fast just makes sail boat racing and match racing in particular impossible. I am done with this bullshit

They did not mess up the start. They did what they could to prevent NZ from getting back on their foils by cresting dirty air.

The marker buoys are powered by electric motors and held in position via GPS. The umpires can move then at will remotely..,

This the most stupid excuse for a sailing competition ever invented. There is no reason why they should be foiling apart from going fast. Who cares. Going fast just makes sail boat racing and match racing in particular impossible. I am done with this bullshit
