I once read that when wally wood created and drew power girl, if one of the suits at dc complained her chest was too big the next issue he would make her a cip size bigger.
@@jeffreyskinkus6154 I must have read the same article because I remember that as well
LOVE Roger Stern & Bob Hall on west coast avengers miniseries too
Bob Hall is someone I've realized I liked a lot more than I knew back in the day...my goodness does he draw the ladies!
That silly greek themed Hawkeye costume is swiped for art on the screens in the first Superman 3 34 version of the Fortress of Solitude which has a number of great features. But Greek style Hawkeye is right there with Green Scarlet Witch, sorta not Quicksilver, and Superman using his cape like Caps shield. The art fascinated me as a youngun
When Superman threw his S shield like a sticky vinyl tarp, it was a giant step back for the legitimacy of the movie. That's why there has never been a satisfactory Superman movie. Now that the film making and CGI can create great things, DC kept wanting Superman to be a god among men and a Christ figure. I hope James Gunn does a good job, fingers crossed.
Thanks for posting, Drew ! I always look forward to your posts! Your problely My favorite UA-camr! I think both your channels will continue to grow, might take some time but I think you'll get there one day, You should get at least 200 thousand followers like the top comic book UA-camrs! You definitely deserve that many, because Your show is as good or better than theirs!
Thank you. I'm very appreciative because of all the other channels out there. Sometimes my sinuses get me to mumbling and sometimes I speak clearer. But doing the show is definitely therapy for me.
btw, I actually like the invisible woman cut out four , in her costume! I remember the first time I saw it I thought it was cool. Didn't even think about it as being too hot or something. But I like the original the best I just do It still looks good to this day
@Rick-mp8tm when Paul Ryan was alive, he said the cut-out costume w/Sue was his biggest request
@drewgeraci8434 I can see why Drew!! It's really cool, and Yes, it's super hot
The problem with some of these costume changes is that they were un-needed and just done for the sake of change, plus some of these artists don't have the design sense of a Kirby,or Byrne,or cockrum,(he self-mockingly called some of his designs cockrum-cliche),or a Perez sometimes it depends on the editorial/artistic combination......
The black costume Spider-Man was cool and had a purpose. But it opened the floodgates to many other costumes Spider-Man's worn the past two decades. Part of me thinks it may be a way to lessen the amount of $ they give Ditko's estate: "Spider-Man doesn't always look like Ditko's design, see?). But I'm very cynical and may be off-base.
@drewgeraci8434 yeah I agree the black costume is cool and you might not be cynical about changing the costume to shortchange ditko's estate their fake respect for him and Kirby and marvel characters are obvious......
A+ content. Keep it coming, bro
The third Power Girl costume is the one where they embrace her (then) Atlantis origin and It was AWFUL.
Not mucho better is the number 6 from New 52. The one with the P. That was George Pérez and was so bad that not too long after got her classic costume again.
The most recent one comes from the idea of having all Superman family and allies with the similar costume. All wearing the S. All look like a uniforme and don't work. Here is hoping goes away for good.
@@justicierodelaliga the Atlantis bit was awful. So many writers have wrecked PG's origin.
X-men 149 is using the costume in character, as you note. Kinda perfect, in context, down to the roller skates (taking a jab at Dazzler? Iron man?)
Gillette Man
Hey, it's the best a man can get! ;-)
Simon has a few good costumes. The first one, the bomber jacket one from the 70s to 80s and the late 80s one. The all ionic energy form is great
I wasn't a fan of the all ionic energy form until I saw it used on the *Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes* animated series.
That show really made it work!
And also yes to his old Safari jacket and black under suit costume, it totally worked for him as he was not at all a classic superhero, but much more just a "guy with powers".
@mandodelorian4668 I liked his original green costume, but the safari jacket quickly grew on me. Good old Perez had an astonishing sense of fashion, especially with Jan Van Dyne.
@ Perez will always be one of my absolute favorites!! He was top tier for sure.
ok, that hellstorm I'd forgot, and sure, it's bad.
Hate Tigra with a tail too, while we are on about the downside of WCA (tail that somehow comes out of her lower back & not tailbone/where it would belong, though she just doesn't have a F-ing tail, but that ship is lost at sea, i know)
@GenghisDon1970 that tail was kinda odd. I think if it was established in her very first appearance in 1974, then I'd be used to it
@@drewgeraci8434 same...although the unnatural placement (a second or split spinal chord?) would still be weird
Byrne is great, but his destruction of Vision & Scarlet Witch is a horrible crime against comic book readers and now the general public
edit 13:35 sure, awful, but so is iron man & all the art period. BARF. Unreadable drek there...failed force works or avengers of a certain dark time?
17:40 dreadful art all around...shrug
@@GenghisDon1970 that was from an issue of the bi-weekly Marvel Comics Presents, where raw talent got a chance to sink or swim.
@@drewgeraci8434 thanks for clarity! I remember it also having GREAT TALENTS. I recall buying them (MC presents) for a fair bit when it first came out, then just giving it up, with maybe some exceptions here or there...hmm. looking back, it was right from issue 1 in 1988, through late in 1991/early 92 ...skimming the covers I don't know I ever bought another issue ever after! Still, it was Barry Windsor Smith, Eric Larsen, Ron Lim, Gene Colan, John Bucemma, Chris Claremont, Steve Gerber, Al Milgrom, Scott Lobdell, Steve Ditko, Rick Leonardi, Anne Niocenti, John Byrne, Dave Cockrum, Larry Hamma, and on and on...but I'm sure it became what you say in time...I'd need to look into it, but that might have driven me off, price point of so many issues so fast & if only one story, say, I liked, it likely sank for me. I had some gaps in the 90's overall anyway though...but I'm pretty sure I lost interest for the reasons above
