My first suggestion is to hire a guide, the bang for the buck is unmatched. You get the introduction to the area and methods used to catch the fish, then you can go from there on your own. If you're not familiar with the area I'd suggest Ozello Community Park as you can stay closer to the launch and not get that turned around. Trout in the holes, Reds and Snook in the usual places, points, bars, flats where they feed and warm up. I only fish artificial because I like to keep moving, that and I'd rather "fool them than feed them." As for a guide, no secret that I'm a huge fan of Brian Stauffer who runs Fishheadkayak Charters. I hired him numerous times when I first moved to the area. Heck, I still hire him when I get visitors. Good luck and hope you enjoy the area.
Yankeetown waters are accessible from anyone of 3 Public launches. Allen Park, Bird Creek and the Withlachoochee Bay Trail. Launch And route depend on tide and wind
Allen Park Road is the Vassey Creek boat ramp (kayaks, microskiff, and airboats only). You can launch out of John Brown in Ozello but you probably already know that. I see people launching out of Yankeetown (end of road boat ramp) and heading South towards Ozello. Ozello Community Park and head East (right) in Nov/Dec will produce big fish this theme of year. ✌️
Ill be heading down there early January. What section of the river is best for kayak fishing? And what species should I target this time of year?
