Thanks B. Little extra work on my end but if anybody gets interested in using the lures I use, hit the pause button and write it down. Might even start putting links to what I use as well. I'm all about helping out.
Sweet video. I great job positioning your kayak with out scaring off all the fish. I can't wait to get back down there this month. This video is making it harder to stay up here in Indiana.
I'm good a both scaring and catching fish. We have had some decent cold fronts come through over the last week or two. The crazy thing is it's suppose to hit 86 mid next week, winter then back to summer!
You guys got a great fishery over there. I'm in the central part of FL and the Indian and Banana River, along with the Mosquito Lagoon are not in the best shape right now. Water clarity is crap.
@@United_By_Water great video. My brother just bought a house in crystal river. Looking for areas to fish. Keep those videos coming. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. I know alot of people don't share their locations but any recommendations are appreciated. Great video!
Just stumbled across this video . I do a lot of fishing with live bait but get frustrated at time where bait shops run out of bait and i’m left struggling with what to use . Love the fact you list what you are using . Going to pick up some ! Would love to get this location also ! Looks solid , if not I understand completely !
Hey Chris, I don't fish with live bait too much any more. It has it's time and place for sure but you hit a few points that have made me steer away from using it; 1. finding bait (if you have a casnet) 2. paying for bait 3. not getting the bait you want (castnet) 4. bait shops not having what you what. I think us fisherman can find almost any artificial bait that will mirror any live bait....lots of options. I try to use lures that cover the water column. Topwater, then your 1-4' subsurface lures and then jigs. You can email at this address: united.by.water at hotmail dot com and I can give you some more details about spots. Sorry for the late response!
Yeah, when the fish get back up in that spot, it can get really good. Recently though, haven't had nearly as much luck as I did in this vid. Thanks for the sub CO, I truly appreciate it.
Another thing.... lol, hindsight is 2020... When you are working the topwater, do some pauses. jerk, jerk, pause, jerk, jerk, jerk... pause... they might spank it on long strides as well. Work different patterns and you might see some different more aggressive strikes.
But.. great video. Thank you so much. I am from northern Wisconsin and planning on my next winter there. I have a kayak and fish tourneys. So, it will be awesome to spend it there out of this snow and cold.
I do sometimes work it that way (almost like a plug) but not all that often. Most of my hits/catches on plugs is at the "pause" state. Gonna mix it up a little, thanks for the tip and taking time to watch!
I’m headed out there tomorrow @united.by.water! I’m wanting to try some bass fishing and some other stuff recommend any good locations to bank fish? I don’t have a kayak so I’m a little limited. I’m pumped none the less!
Sorry for the late reply but unfortunately I don't do a lot of bank fishing. I have seen a few areas but they all get fished pretty heavily. You wade fish at all?
I hear ya, I bounce around between 15-30. You only get one chance (most of the time) and losing a fish over too thin of a leader sucks. I have caught big snook with leaders I thought for sure were not going to hold up, they did. Only to then have a baby snook slice my 30# like butter.
I fish plenty of braid to floro but only when I really have to. It seemed like you had a couple of freak breaks here. Is there a reason why you don't just fish straight mono on your topwaters in this situation, or even straight heavier braid?
Ahhh...good questions Kyle. Main reasons I hardly use mono: · Night and day cadence action when I'm "walking the dog" or any type topwater fishing (personal preference I guess). Too much stretch in mono and I don't get a good clean snap on the lure. · Forget about fishing around any kind of structure. I'm constantly around oyster beds, pillings, barnacle covered trees/branches. Mono isn't going to stand up to that kind of stuff. They're all kinds of small oyster clusters that fish tend to dart in and out of when they get hooked (all over in this video but you can't see them). · I think the heaviest "inshore" setup I have is 20 (maybe 30, hard to remember). More often than not, I beef up my leader but don't go ultra heavy on my line. Play your drag right, you can get some solid pressure and manage good size fish. If I were to beef up my line, most likely would have to jump to a 3000 size reel, would rather avoid that. Guess it depends on how heavy I went but lightweight is personal preference. When I first got in to fishing, started off using mono, then switched to braid. I guess I haven't looked back since then. Only time I switch over to mono is when I'm tarpon fishing, that's when I need a little stretch. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment Kyle. I apprentice it. Cheers - Andy
@@United_By_Water Makes sense. Your cover is a lot sharper than mine is. Most of my topwater fishing is done with straight braid since wood and grass are more prone to be sliced by the line than the other way around. Braid and oysters probably don't get along very well. I really enjoyed your video and thank you for taking the time to respond.
Remember.... reel till you feel , don't jerk it. And re tie often , if you have to think about it.... then its time . I use 20lb power pro, with 20lb Seagal. And lighten up your drag, if you need to ...palm it. Great video tho !! Keep "pluggin" away !!
As simple as it sounds, I can't tell how many times I either have set the drag too tight, to loose or not checking my leader as often as I should. I get so caught up in the excitement I tend to forget. Small things like that can make or break (no pun intended) catching a trophy fish.
