Mom chose red non-looped shag carpeting for the living room. Walking on it caused foot and dog prints. Whenever anyone was coming over, I had to spend an hour brushing it with our poodle's dog brush hoping not to get called out be Mom for missing a spot. I really hated that rug.

Mom finally got her kitchen redone in 1970. All avocado green appliances ! Wood cabinets . White Formica countertops with gold flecks ! It was her Dream
Love the 70s, bought my first house had long olive green shag carpet and an orange velvet 8' sofa. A large bean bag chair for each kid in the family. Roatery phones in cool colors to match each room. Life was good.
Our house, built in 1964, had two couches made of vinyl in avocado green and burnt orange. We had the macrame plant hangers, our kitchen counters were avocado, and my favorite floor lamp had springs to fit tightly against the ceiling. Divided in thirds, there were 3 big lights you could swivel. Hard to describe, but so cool. I wish I had it today. We had wooden floors and got carpet later, not shag. Phone was rotary dial. A teenager, I had a blue fur bedspread. Gosh, I sure miss those days when everyone I knew was happy.
Married in ‘69. Three fondue pots also. The royal blue Lava Lamp was the worst. I hated that thing, but hubby liked it. I accidentally (lol) knocked it over vacuuming one day. It broke. 🤗
@@Carolyn-qd8mj - Lots of orange and avocado green. Shag carpeting, with a rake. New craze, sort of indoor/outdoor carpet in kitchens and bathrooms. Toilet paper and facial tissue colors to match your bathroom. Princess phones in different colors to match the decor. Pay TV $9.99 per month and we got everything for that price. Elephant bell pants….wide leg. Polyester everything. Bean bag chairs. Part of me still misses those days.
I was a kid during the 70’s but we had a white stove and fridge. We had gold carpets but not shag, a pinkish bathroom. But it was the best decade to grow up in.
However, clothes were very often binding and restricting, such as capri pants with a zipper up the back and absolutely NO give in the fabric -- no spandex then. Stretchy athletic wear did not exist. Girdles were hot, heavy and uncomfortable. If you wanted to wear stockings (before pantyhose) you had to wear a girdle (if you had a lot of fat to hold in) or else if you were thinner, a 6" wide piece of elastic called a panty girdle, around your middle and hips, with straps front and back that had special clips on the ends to connect the tops of stockings to the girdle. Those silk stockings got a runner nearly every time you wore them so girls most often would wear white socks and shoes like penny loafers except for special events like birthdays or dances. When pantyhose came out, they were so much more streamlined to wear and did not get runners as quickly as silk did. Finally knits came out and we had stretchy clothing! We still wore unstretchy cottons a lot -- jeans, shirts, blouses, sweatshirts, and woolen coats in winter. Tees and jeans were unacceptable clothing for school. The year after I graduated in 1969 the public school GIRLS could finally wear pants, but I don't think that included jeans for either sex. We are talking dress slacks for guys and gals. Maybe little kids could wear jeans. But once you hit junior high you were expected to dress like an adult, believe it or not. Pleated Kilt plaid wool skirts, a blouse and sweater that coordinated with the wool skirt color were pretty much regulation wear along with bouffant hairdos that later changed to long flat ironed hair parted in the center. Pompadours for guys in the 1950s changed to shapeless longer hair once the Beatles became popular. Most guys looked awful in that shapeless mop of hair -- they just all looked like they were in bad need of a hair stylist. Check out photos of the crowds at Woodstock to get the idea.
@@virginiasoskin9082 There were plenty of clothes with give in the fabric. The 70s was the decade of double-knit material which stretched in both directions. I too married in 1974, a sunburst clock, murano ashtray and pearl handled cutlery, oh an nylon bedding, you could get sparks from the static. We has Mary Quant wallpaper in the kitchen in Orange, Shocking Pink in the Bathroom and Purple everything in the bedroom including the carpet. My husband had a huge vinyl collection and hated anyone handling his precious albums.
I think through the late 60’s and 70’s my parents had most of these styles and items one time or another wood paneling on an accent wall chocolate brown kitchen appliances, we had all of it but the wall to wall shag carpet. My mother’s friend got hers first, and when mom seen how much work went into keeping it looking nice with the sweeping , carpet raking and shampoo was expensive and there were 4 children , She decided against it. We did have a couple shag throw rugs though. This bought me so many happy memories growing up. Thank you❤
The black cat clock is something that I remember. And the color of the 70's, we had yellow in the kitchen and green in the bathroom and I had heavy certains in my room, I used to take and pull the certains around my bed and going to sleep. It was a good time to grow up in the 70's. I miss those days.

So Spot On! What a Beautiful Trip down memory lane!!! I either owned every item or had a best friend who did!!! I was smiling the whole time! I used to love the feel of the dial phone give slight resistance around my finger tips as I dialed numbers or grab a pencil to dial on days I had a manicure! lol! Back then I was so excited when my brother bought me a waterbed! Now I would never buy one again! My boss was mad at me when I was late for work because my bed sprung a large leak and I was on the third floor of an apartment and had to fix that leak! Went through a lot of towels and buckets! lol!😂 WHAT FUN DAYS! Thanks for the video!😀
I remember our first remove control…a wooden broom handle with a slot cut in end that fit the dials turned the channels change and volume. Loved the 70s.
We had red shag carpet in our family room. Wood paneling or barn board was a biggie in the rec rooms. Avocado green and harvest gold appliances ... there was a brown set as well. I still love wicker. Remember having a wicker headboard in the guest room.
I was born in 99, but seeing this made me realize my childhood home had a lot of these elements (popcorn ceiling, green sink, yellow trash can- built into the wall/cabinets and could crush the trash!! It didn’t work, but so cool!!) and also made me realize my grandmother was stuck in the 70’s cause her house looked just like this alll the way till 2010! lol! Shag carpeting and all
Dad bought a beautiful big house in the country just before I was born. It had to be big because I had 3 older half sibs and can only imagine how excited everyone must have been. I remember we had linoleum at first and then we had carved wool carpet in green of course 😅. Eventually the whole upstairs had shag carpet with each room a different color and was still in fair shape when the folks passed on. Good times.
I was just a little girl back in the 70's and it was so much more prettier than this boring ole gray we have today. A little bit of gray is fine, but gray walls, gray furniture, grey wood flooring is too much. It reminds me of a jail cell, a dog pound, or a casket. De....pressing!! 😐😐😐 😂 I miss the 70's decor..I even loved the country look, I loved the red and black decor too. Remember when they had ceramic black bulls, the Spanish look? That was cool too in the 70's. I definitely remember the avocado green, orange, or yellow appliances, countertops in the kitchen, and telephones. I still love wicker furniture. 😊 Thank you for taking me down memories lane. I wish I would come back. 💚🧡💛🤎😊
Ha! These things still exist in homes! My house in 2024 (built'78-'81) still has popcorn ceilings, shag carpeting in two rooms and when I moved in, it had Harvest Gold stove and side by side refrigerator. I got a Harvest Gold laundry set and the dryer is still here. I have many items purchased from Montgomery Wards still around. In the 89s my boyfriend and I had an apartment that was probably built in the '60s and not refurnished since. It had two tone green shag carpeting and avocado green kitchen countertops and gold glass hanging lifts with chains. We had a waterbed too. Where I grew up in '60s-70s, my parent's last house had a garage that had been turned into a living room... With wood paneling walls. And we had outdoor carpeting in the bathroom. Its a bit better than regular carpeting because but had foam rubber backing and could be cleaned outside with suds and water and completely dried. We had Macrame plant holders with spider plants, a black Nagahyde sofa, yellow rotary phone in the kitchen, and our medicine cabinet had a razor drop in the back of it. 😊
I was 5 in 1980 and I still remember most of this stuff my mom used those plants holders until the 90s and t.v tray also we still used them in the 90s man how this brought back my childhood memories long forgotten have hit my mind so crazy lol
I remember all of these items . I love going down memory lane . My mother loved to shop . And I had a yellow bean bag in my room . I'm sorry I got rid of that .😊
The 70s were pretty much my teenage years. I was 14 in 1970. I remember every one of those.♥️. Except for the very last one. We definitely had the acicado green kitchen appliances. And the shag carpet that felt SO good when barefoot. I had green shag in my room that was the colour of grass in the summer. I loved it SO much. It was like walking barefoot in the grass all year long. Always sumner in my room even when there was snow outside.🙂 I also remember wallpaper being much more common then than now (Does anyone even use wallpaper anymore?) In the 70s i especially remember the wallpapers with the metallic backgrounds (silver or gold) with the velvet (flocking) patterns on them.
Wood paneling. My first home( at age 21j that my husband and I bought was considered cool and very modern.. That coupled with an accent wall of a forest scene. My mother gifted us a washer and dryer that was avocado green. We had a water bed as well. We were so cool!
Yeah! And I bet that you had that washer and dryer FOREVER LOL. I had mine for at LEAST 30 years and gave it to my daughter. We had a water bed too, it totally sucked😂
Mom was a Contac paper pro. I really liked the brady boys grey panelling in their bedroom but because we didnt own at the time, she did my room in the grey panel contac paper. Looked beautiful.
We had a touch tone phone in 1970 because Jonesboro, AR was a test city. I still have most of my records. I had to search to find the needle for the phonograph. It still takes me back with the pops and clicks.
Wallpaper was very popular in those days. In our kitchen, on 1 wall we had a print of kitchen things: pots, pans, kettles bowls etc., green and orange.
For those who lived through the 1970s, these objects evoke strong memories of a simpler, more connected time. Even today, seeing these items can trigger nostalgia for those moments.

I had a Bruce Lee poster from Enter The Dragon, the one, and my mother was horrified! I’ll give her credit, she didn’t tell me to take it down lol
I can see why new generations want to bring all this stuff back. It was a wonderful time to alive. ❤ ❤
I love 70s. Its my childhood. Loved the home decor then, still love it now. Cant get used to the modern homes of today. Oh wait, I dont have to cause I dont live in one 😊
I remember it all. Thank you!
I remembet getting a yellow wall phone for the kitchen and thinking this is as good as it gets!✌️✌️
The orange and blue rug they showed at the beginning is beautiful. I would put it in my house now.
I remember our first remove control…a wooden broom handle with a slot cut in end that fit the dials turned the channels change and volume. Loved the 70s.
I lived in an A-Frame, built in 1960s, we had shag carpeting, it was groovy!
I SO LONG HAVE CRAVED THESE WONDERFULL THINGS . namaste
We had red shag carpet in our family room. Wood paneling or barn board was a biggie in the rec rooms. Avocado green and harvest gold appliances ... there was a brown set as well. I still love wicker. Remember having a wicker headboard in the guest room.
@@Donna-mk9ib copper tone kitchen appliances
Good times.
I had most of all this, including avocado appliances. I think the wood paneling looks so cozy combined with the stone fireplace.
I am staring at a popcorn ceiling right now (sigh).
Gray is OUT now. We r moving on.
This channel gets it, thankfully for all of us followers😊
Rabbit fur coats were a luxury
@@QueenofArgyle2525 aww them poor rabbits!
You are so lucky. I was born in 1980 but would love all that. It's just so cool!!!
I remember this. Man I’m getting old! You forgot 8 tracks. Call me crazy but I still have 8 tracks
I remember the 70's well. These items are still widely available in the UK
I'm sorry I got rid of that .😊
Groovy!❤🙏✌️
I’ve still got some of these I like my house with different items from different times!
I was born in '73 and remember everything from that time period. Some of those living styles home decor still existed in the early 80s.
Always sumner in my room even when there was snow outside.🙂
I also remember wallpaper being much more common then than now (Does anyone even use wallpaper anymore?)
In the 70s i especially remember the wallpapers with the metallic backgrounds (silver or gold) with the velvet (flocking) patterns on them.
All good stuff things were made better n lasted longer ❤
I remember these good old items.
We had a touch tone phone in 1970 because Jonesboro, AR was a test city. I still have most of my records. I had to search to find the needle for the phonograph. It still takes me back with the pops and clicks.
Shagadelic!!!! I loved those lava lamps. How about the Dynomite 8-track tape players with the plunger, and black light posters?
I was 10 yrs old in 1974, and remember all these things!
I remember it all and we had harvest gold appliances in the 70s
Went through most of those things in the vid (lol) and still have some pieces. All vintage now..........Loved them!!!
For one of my birthdays, my mom got me purple shag carpet for my bedroom. Also frilly purple curtains and canopy for my bed. Loved it.
Wallpaper was very popular in those days. In our kitchen, on 1 wall we had a print of kitchen things: pots, pans, kettles bowls etc., green and orange.
