I just bought a brand-new Line-6 Catalyst 200 (non-CX) on clearance fir $250CAD (£139) with the twin 12" speakers. I think that, for the price, I can deal with whatever shortcomings it has. 😁 I have a USB-B cable anyway.
Wait, what ? They never took out and replaced any amp models, they just added 6 more. If you didnt like the oblivion before and do now theres something weird going on man.
Your playing is allowing us to hear the nuances of the amp, thank you. I'm tired of people just shredding and not being able to make out how the distortion etc.. actually sound in these demos. You're letting the notes ring out.
I have the catalyst 60 and i love the versatility of tones you can get. Im 50 and have been playing since i was 16 and played in as many bands w my 5150 combo and i never use it anymore thats how good it can be
The addition of these amp models is huge tbh, I never tbh enjoyed the katanas heavy sounds but I really like these particular models from the helix, might be worth a check out👀 Great video as always!
I didnt like the OG Catalyst but bought a CX 100 this weekend and I am in love! The secret sauce for me was the hidden 2204 in the Crunch setting. Thx for the demo- really tasty playing.
Agree with 100%. Have had original with CX updates. Use mine in home studio with android app wired in so not as big a problem but my son has used my amp live and he said it's difficult to recall the correct patches from the amp.
I just ended up buying two of the old 100's. Gonna update them sometime this week to v2.02 to match the CX models, and it saved me a total of 340 Canadian dollars over going with the CX. Gonna be using them with my modelers, so won't be using the effects much, will be using the preamps though(4CM) ....but yeah, a lot of your cons are basically "set it and forget it" parameters for me. Anyhow, regarding the Vypyr. I have an original Vypyr Tube 120 combo...great amp in terms of sounds, but don't praise those potentiometers too much. Once they start getting jumpy, it becomes ridiculously frustrating to deal with.
I use a Catalyst 100 as part of a two-combo system. Both combos are stacked on top of each other, and I just use their power amps to take a signal from a Helix Floor. It's ridiculously cheap as a guitar-dedicated powered speaker when pre-amped right. I must admit I use a Tweed Fender Blues Deluxe on top of it. Sounds quite good, really. It's the sort of amp it's always useful to have around.
Spider V are great amps, but closed back (may or may not be a problem for you), no fx loop, no power limiter switch, and no power amp input to use your preferred modeler.
Such a great timing to see this review, I’m a boss katana 50 mk1 owner and was considering the 100mk2 mainly for the fx loop when using looper, but also I’m aware of the speaker, more channels etc. However this CX-60 seems to have all the specs and doesn’t have to be 14kg like the katana 100. I’m really glad you touched on the modern metal tones cause there’s no point in getting one without them. Would you recommend the CX60?
Thanks bro can't remember exact settings but just follow the effects list text in the bottom left corner and you wont be far too! I don't boost or EQ too heavily on anything.
First of all, claiming this is an amp "for beginners" is ridiculous. It's an amp, period. Second, the Catalyst Edit software works on phones, tablets, and laptops. You made it sound like you need a Windows 95 tower sitting next to your amp. You plug in a $2 USB cable to your phone and it instantly connects. Would it be nice if it had onboard Bluetooth? Yes, but it's a $299 amp. Third, to get equivalent functionality in a Katana you have to buy the $400 100w version. The 50w doesn't have an effects loop. For me that was a deal breaker. YMMV. Fourth, if you think a Bluetooth dongle (sold separately) and Christmas tree lights around every. single. knob. are "elegant solutions", all I can say is... LOL. Presets are just that, you set them ahead of time. If you need to change a setting live on the fly you can, or switch to manual mode (blue button), and turn whatever knobs you like just like any old fashioned amp. Also you saved your praise until the end, and most of the haters won't make it that far. I own the 60cx and it's a really great sounding amp for very little money. Is it perfect? No. But what amp this complex is?
Even the Fender Mustang GTX completely surpasses it; you can use it with a tablet or phone, and on top of that, it is much more intuitive and simpler. The basic presets are already excellent. There's also the Hotone brand with the Puzle, which seems quite promising. From what I understand, it's a Chinese company, but that's good because it creates competition. The Chinese are making more and more progress, whereas I find that Americans tend to stagnate and rest on their laurels.
Yep 👍🏻 it still looks like Boss will be killing this Amp lol ... Matter of fact the gen 3 katanas are going to slay everything for the 8th year in a row. it's a shame though because with all the knowledge Line 6 has they should be capable of much better. Especially a AB power section. Hopefully soon some other companies will give Boss a good run I would love to see a new competitor. Great 👍🏻 review btw. Looking forward to what's next on your channel brother 😎👊🏻💯
Like this comment if you think my new haircut makes me look like Jedward.

I have just seen Ashdown have launched a supposed competitor to this amp, may check it out..
Great amps for cleans and light crunch. They need to add a way to tell which effect you're selecting in V3.

Why not just plug em into the “Power Amp In”?
Do you think the Catalyst 60 can be enough for rehearsal with a real drum or live gigs in small venues?

Looks like, inside of Line6, the Spider V still offers a lot more options than this "new" Catalyst

Nice review,thanks.
Thanks for watching! 🎸🎸

It really does sound quite decent across the tone spectrum now yeah!
Coming from a katana mini, to a cx60 yes. Almost got the orange 35rt glad I didn't
I love this guitar intro - sounds mysterious... \m/
Thanks man just random Phyrigian Mode noodling!
@ChilledGuitarReviews love the reviews , love the amps to !! can you put your setting for your high gain tone at the end 😆 plz
Thanks bro can't remember exact settings but just follow the effects list text in the bottom left corner and you wont be far too! I don't boost or EQ too heavily on anything.
There have already been a noise gate on Catalyst (I know - I have one) but I agree with all your comments anyway :D
@@kerkuss yeah I think I forgot to mention it on the review of the first version I did.
I like that riff at the beginning it’s like the thing that should not be this love and all apologies
Thanks man just random Phyrigian Mode noodling!
Haircut makes you look like me in Will Power and The Generators 😂. Elvis invented it, Morrisey refined it! Interesting review.
Hello!!!! Can anyone please tell me the name of the first song??? I love it but I've never heard it before it woukd be so helpful thx

Thanks mate, Katana MK3 review coming next!
Quilter smokes Boss
@@brettking2800 uhh no it doesn't.... matter of fact only thing I've played in 10 years I like better is a revv generator 120 lol 🤣
What is the difference СХ, From simple
An amp needs to really knock it out of the park tone-wise and volume-wise to dethrone my MK1 Katana.
hi i'm a bad intermediate player who tries to play metal :) do you think catalyst cx or peavey vypyr x is better for me? thanks @ChilledGuitarReviews
Peavey Vypr by far the better choice for metal but budget for a seperate Noise Gate pedal too!
