    You’re such a great person, Jack.. not once did you use any nasty words. pulled them from a number of Prius’ s and I swore every time.
    I found putting a towel across the hatch opening and laying a few boards across the opening helps with getting it out and in.

      I converted my 2009 Prius 3 and I get 66mpg (UK galls) better than my old Ni-MH (which were OK still) they gave me 56mpg, but you could feel their limitations for example, I couldn't drive faster than 22mph in EV mode with the old Ni-HM but with the new Nexcell LifePo4 blades I can drive 30mph but you need your battery to have 60% or more to do this, its how Toyota software determines whether or not you can use EV mode at any given time. Nexcell can go as low as 39% charge before ICE cuts in to start charging and I have had the charge as high as 75% after a long downhill stretch. So this all works brilliantly.

      Individual banks/blocks of cells have the charge controllers inside to protect the lithium cells. The computer doesn't know the difference nor does it matter. If a Li cell has a problem it will stop charging which will result in the standard triangle warning. It's a slick solution, I hope this is still available when my rebuilt pack dies. Time will tell how reliable it is but the benefits over the alternative to fixing your hybrid battery make it worth it. E-bikes work kind of like this, the charger can be somewhat dumb because the pack contains all the necessary safety and balance electronics. There may turn out to be a recommended periodic battery conditioning cycle because big lithium packs can benefit from a long full charge periodically to make sure all individual cells have a chance to get a full charge.

    Why can I not find the life span of this installed Lithium battery. If I have to replace again this lithium battery in two years, it is not worth it to me. I understand the current price of $2,000 for my Toyota Prius. Please respond.

    • @Aries-cv4wj
      @Aries-cv4wj 3 роки тому

      Spot on life span of original battery is about 200 miles or 300 klms or 15 years at 20000 klms driving year and a replacement of a lithium is $13,300 over 14 years not worth it just a ploy for the this company to make money under the guise of an upgrade.

      @@deluxe1668 yes its not worth it in my opinion its not an upgrade its a ploy for companies to make more money from electirc vehciles. Here is a conversation with a person debating the lifespan of the lithium battery and a testimony from a person who changed their original battery to a lithium one and i have included the link so you can read all the dialogue yourself.ua-cam.com/video/em4-vP52GR8/v-deo.html&lc=Ugy7RUbi4LwcO7FTtCN4AaABAg.9RYeGmJWLPT9U0z7kxgVCr

       @James Zmuda if the lithium battery lasts longer than then 2 years that's a bonus, however if the data is accurate and the lithium battery cannot sustain the operation of the vehicle after 2 years.
      It will need to be replaced as recommended by the company promoting there product so your original outlay was $1900 and if the Lithium battery cant sustain the operation of the vehicle after 2 years you will need to pay an additional $1900+ so now your at $3,800.00
      When you compare the original batteries lifespan of 200 miles or 321,000 klms to the unlimited lithium batteries lifespan theirs no comparison because the lithium battery will need to be changed every 2 years if it cant sustain the operation of the vehicle at $1900+ a pop.
      A vehicle that traveled 20,000klms a year on a original battery divided into 321,000 klms is approximately 16 potential years.
      But if you drove 40,000 klms over 2 years on a lithium battery and it needed to be replaced you have to outlay another $1900+ every 2 years which would be 8 replacements over 16 years if the battery didn't last longer then 2 years.
      Which is an additional $13,300.00+ on top of the $1900 for the first "upgrade" which is $15,200 plus at least $500 labour charge to change the battery if you cant do it your self so thats 500 x 8 changes which is $4000 not including the lithuim battery and labour increase every 2 years so now you are at minimum of $19,200.
      The original battery is more than adequate to operate the vehicle and the the additional $19.200 could have stayed in your pocket and went towards other expenses for the family or another car.
      So what is the upgrade advantage of a lithium battery because your not saving money and if you say performance what additional performance are you getting that justifies paying $1200 extra every year for the next 16 years?

      Only the companies selling this product to consumers as an upgrade and are the ones who are benefiting and making money from this so called improvement.
      You don't have to agree with my opinion, but the facts above are logic and common sense.
      Hasan

      You right 👍🏻 , Im make this upgrade to my my prius Gen 2 at local company thought that will make Longer service life, first feeling after installation, l feel car more powerful and more economic, but after 2 years when warranty expires the red triangle 🔺 appears 😩, HV battery become weak and must replace, the company they did not take any action because the warranty expired 3 months ago😤.
      They knew exactly operational life, Now I regret !! that the original battery can be repaired by replacing the weak units.

    Ni-Mh type battery bank voltage is 1.2, while Li-ion is 3.7 volts. In the first case, we have 6X1.2=7.2 volts, two such elements are grouped together and the voltage is 14.4 volts, the entire hybrid computer is set up for charging/discharging based on these data. How to replace Li-ion accumulators so directly with Ni-MH, so that no problems arise?? Then the data in the computer should also be changed as to when the car should start charging and when it should end

      many things potentially. Holds twice the charge, takes less time to charge, meaning city driving will be much better potentially up 10 or more mpg. No harmful gasses emitted like nimh. Less heat issues, more power draw before losing power from the ev bat. Less cells total meaning less chances of the pack going bad. Not to mention its cheaper, if wanting to buy a new nimh.

      You have to get on the email list to know when they are available. Be ready to buy and check emails everyday. As soon as it was available I purchased it. It was sold out the next day. You have to be fast

    I checked the @t website. They have info Gen II, Gen III, and Gen IV, but nothing on Gen 1. Does anyone know of about the possibility of converting a Gen I (2002) Prius to Lithium?
    Thanks.

    Where is the bms?

    • @lavatrip9344
      @lavatrip9344 3 роки тому

      I assume they're relying on the Prius battery monitor too disconnect the battery if there's trouble. They probably built in top balancing resistors on each cell that activate at the right time. I think with so many cells in series unmonitored there could be trouble in many many years but who knows maybe they also put in BMS in each blade to disconnect the blade if anything goes out of spec.

      Without seeing inside of each module (blade/plate as he called it), my guess is each module had its own internal wire fuses and bms inside. If 21700 cells were used, its norminal voltage would be 3.7v; so to make up the same voltage as the old pair of module NiMH; which is 14.2volt give or take=> there must be a series connection inside of each module consists of 4 cells 21700 in series. Given the capacity of the old one, which was around 6300mah, my guess is that those 4 cells in series are paring up with at least 2 more just like it in parallel. So without looking inside each blade, assuming 21700 cells were used (most likely are 18650s), the configuration is 3p(parallel)4s(series) with bms inside and maybe small 1-2amp wire fuses between each connection. And all of that is what is inside of only 1 blade. He used 14 blades i think (didnt count), the same amount of the old pairs and voltage (old one has 28 blades, which equates to 14 pairs and each pair is 14.2 volts). Because of this, the original bms from prius recognizes it as normal and charges the whole pack the sam as the old one. Of course, I can be a complete idiot that do not know any better and am wrong about everything. But that how i think why there is no visible bms(es) outside for the new pack because each blade will accept 14.2 volts in and the bms inside will balance charge the 4 cells of 21700 inside in series (times 2 or 3 in parallel).

      Lithium-ion batteries, whether they are used in cars or electronic devices, can catch fire if they have been improperly manufactured or damaged, or if the software that operates the battery is not designed correctly.

    Bunch of NO audio 10:49 - 12:36 then 15:03 - 20:39. (and more) Hopefully this isn't the installation video for ProjectLithium. A lot of $'s to spend on battery pack with missing audio. Sorta stinks.
