    Thank you...I'm super new. I made turmeric soap. First batches seized, I saved them by cooking in crock pot. It turned out great ! Then I made another CP turmeric soap, I thought it was good. But when I unmold it, it dry and cracked. Again saved by my crock pot....then I'm thinking why not just make HP. So far your video is really clear gave information. In most videos, I watched no recipes or no talking just annoying music. Thank you Ellen !

    Pretty pretty!! I made some the other day for the first time in about a year.
    My 4th or 5th batch only lol
    A tip for you, I don’t normally have test strips but I watched a gal(can’t remember her name) she took out a tiny bit once it became that gel mashed potato consistency and washed her hands with it, if it turns to soap while washing, it’s ready. I’ve been doing that ever since 😊

    I always do CP, but I have done HP, and I love it. Made two batches last week, hooked on it because you don't have to worry about your fragrance oil causing problems with your recipe.

      With CP, how do you protect against the fumes?

    • @napfreedom2153
      @napfreedom2153 2 роки тому

      @@sl4983 Hello, when I do CP I freeze my water into cubes. Weight out in cubes, add my lye amount. ⚠️ Still wear goggles and mask 💯The lye dissolves the ice, not only are the fumes(low low) gone, but the mixture cools much faster. I like to soap at 85-90 degrees.

    I love hot process, too. Those look remarkably like your beautiful cold process soaps. My theory on fragrances is you add them at the end of the cook and there's no lye attacking the fragrance molecules so they do better. However, it's just a theory, too. Great job!

    Hello there! Great video, I've made two batches of HP soap and I of course used a spatula to scrape the edges of my crock pot but I used a sturdy whisk to mix the mixture while cooking. Using a whish made the mixture really smooth with no lumps and probably reduced cooking time. Because the cooked soap gets hard so fast I never thought that you could do a swirl design. I want to make a HP olive oil soap soon so I will give it a try, thank you for the inspiration!!

    So that is what flashpoint means. I never knew that. Pretty soap.

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  3 роки тому +1

      It's almost always printed on the label. It's a flammable point.

    • @amistydimnesssoap7005
      @amistydimnesssoap7005 3 роки тому

      That is not what flashpoint is, and losing fragrance has nothing to do with the flashpoint. From a chemist... Flash point is the temperature at which a substance will burn if exposed to a flame. It's not the auto ignition temp, and it's not the temp at which something will burn if exposed to a spark. And it has zero to do with how easy a chemical goes "poof."
      Volatility is the concept you're really talking about, which is the ability of a chemical to evaporate or volatilize. The vapor pressure of a chemical at a given temperature and pressure is the measurement of the chemical's volatility. The higher the vapor pressure, the higher the volatility and the faster it will evaporate. There are highly volatile chemicals that don't have a flash point, because they don't burn.
      Flash points are easy to find because they're required information on every Safety Data Sheets (SDS or MSDS) for products sold on the open market so fire fighters can do their job of fighting fires. Vapor pressure measurements are much harder to find.

      @@EllenRuthSoap - If I may comment. I normally add the sugar to the soap along with the yogurt and I have no issue. I used to add the sugar to they lye solution and noticed that depending on what type of ingredients I was using (i.e. oatmilk and oats) the batter would turn darker from the sugar caramelizing which is why I decided to add it after the soap had cooked.

    Hi Ellen. Where do you get your soap molds? I like this one and the other video you made with the same title. How did you get your white soap so white? Hiow much Titanium Dioxide are you using and are you using oil or water with it?

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  8 місяців тому

      The mold is from Workshop Heritage. I use water soluble T.D., and used about a tsp. premixed with water.

    I'm struggling so much to get my hot process to work for me. I find that I'm getting too thick of a batter and almost instantly it gets so thick that I can't even stir it. I'm going to try again with EVOO in a large amount for my 1 lb. batch for trial. I also add goats milk (3 oz) as well as hemp and yogurt. Its getting the best of me and Id appreciate some insight into what I'm doinhg wrong. Thank you so much. I enjoy watching your videos but I think a video just on making lye solution would be very helpful. Im thinking this is where the trouble lies.

    Hi Ellen Thank you for this helpful video. I wonder how to premix your titanium dioxide with what do you mix (and how much) it and where do you store ?

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  Рік тому

      I pre-mix my T.D. (it's a water soluble one): 1 part TD to 2 parts water. If I'm not going to be using it within a few days, I'll add a touch of preservative to it too.

    This is a great video - thanks. Did you calculate any super fat into the recipe or just add the hemp after the cook? What was the water as percent of oil? 38?

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  Рік тому

      Thanks! I just add the extra super fat.

      @@EllenRuthSoap thanks - is the recipe calculated at 5%sf and the hemp is on top? Is the water at 38? I’m excited to try this!

    I love this! I do cold process mostly myself. When you do this method, do you still put 5% superfat in the calc and then add extra SF afterwards?

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  3 роки тому +1

      I do a bit of the SF in the base, and add the rest at the end to help make it fluid.

      @@EllenRuthSoap Thank-you for the fast reply! I will try this tonight. I have a Hemp recipe that I adore, I'll split the hemp oil in half and add into the lye mixture and rest afterwards. You're an angel!

    Hi Ellen! Hope you're doing well. I got some colloidal oatmeal because of your videos lol But I was wondering how much I should use in a batch of 3 lb of soap. Thank you! I love your tips!

    • @EllenRuthSoap
      @EllenRuthSoap  3 роки тому +1

      You can add up to a T per lb of oils, but I do a bit less, maybe a 1/2 teaspoon per lb.
