Merrill Moore was NOT the original anchor at WCYB. He came over from WETB Radio in Johnson City as the 11:00 pm anchor in 1962. Art Countiss and others were the original news anchors, including Hal Wanzer, who was later an anchor at Channel 6 in Knoxville
You hate to see great local news anchors like Sam Dick and Barbara Bailey at WKYT in Lexington, Bill Williams at WBIR in Knoxville, the late Tony Turner at WYMT in Hazard, or even Paul "PJ" Johnson at WCYB in the Tri-Cities, leave their day jobs as newscasters behind! But when you do, you can't imagine what life would be like, if they no longer anchor the local news anymore!
