I beg to differ. I believe that when our real electronic over lords arise, he will be the first one up against the wall for his fashion crimes.😀

Does anyone here understand everything he's talking about? (Not trolling, I'm genuinely curious.)

If I'm understanding correctly, he's saying that the AGI can be broken into various AIs, (like separate AIs for language, learning, creativity, socializing, etc.) and they all work together to create the AGI. At 3:41 he's talking about how it's important to have an AI capable of abstract reasoning and generalization (I assume that this means being able to find solutions to any solvable problem), but this AI would be useless without having other AIs to make sense of the real world. Then he talks about knowledge bases, which are useful for getting the AI to keep track of everything it has learned. Then OpenCog (the project that he's worked on) lets you ask a question and the system apparently scans the knowledge base to find the answer.
Then he makes some gross sounds with his uvula, but that's not important right now. Apparently SingularityNET lets you link together multiple AIs that are each good at some narrow task to create a strong AI that's good at all of those tasks (and maybe it can generalize what it's learned to new tasks?). Even multiple AIs that are good at the same thing can be useful because they can work together to find the best answer to some problem if their answers conflict.
Then he's saying how AGI should be decentralized, which I guess means controlled by the users instead of Facebook or Google or whatever.
At least that's what I got out of it. Hopefully this makes more sense.

Wow, that is a hell of a breakdown. I actually understand this. Congrats!
Goertzel is obviously a genius, and despite his persona seems more grounded and realistic about AI than, say, Kurzweil. Kurzweil's looming mortality seems to be messing with his ability to think rationally about AGI, especially the timeline for it.

@@squamish4244 Happy to help! I don't know too much about Kurzweil's views, but I'll heed your warning and approach them with skepticism.

How can he talk of 'his' AGI if AGI doesn't exist?

This is AI, not AGI. The entire field is currently working towards developing AI ONLY - whether they realise it or not. Albeit impressive technologically, it gets us no further to what we typically imagine when one speaks of AI, which is a program capable of creativity. That is, a program that can produce NEW explanations of an entirely unconstrained capacity (a capacity that humans alone possess - barring any undiscovered extra terrestrial intelligence). Until such a time that a program of this sort is produced, they will need to get used to omitting the G (for general) as there is nothing general about the intelligence embedded in their technology, sadly.

Unimpressive period. Convoluted nothings. Gotta explain the prob wh is how does your robot do the NEW and unknown as you more or less say - go for a new walk, build a new structure like a rock wall, handle new objects pack new containers - when narrow AI cannot handle a single new action, move along a single new line? (How does your robot move and think like an exploratory infant?) Goertzel doesn't understand AGI/,ACI .(Should be Art. CREATIVE Intelligence)

Is not that what we want a entity that stands
beyond our fragmented human diversity, that
    represents a superior universally
    accepted instance?
To whom both I, and you, and my friend, as well
as my enemy, want to entrust themselves
    and carry his message?

    • @squamish4244

We have a powerful desire to build an intelligence that is 'better' than ourselves, not just in the intellectual sense but as a complete being - a benevolent AGI. I don't believe that being will be conscious, but it doesn't have to be to help us.

the right hemisphere of our human brain functions like a parallel processor and and has a "spiritual" personality and controls the left side of the body. the left brain hemisphere functions like a serial processor and has the logical lists personality and controls the right side of the body. - from Neuro anatomist Jane Bolte Taylor's TED Talk "My Stroke of Insight.
