I ordered and promptly received the DVD about a month back, despite having not purchased physical media in more than 20 years, not to mention not even owning a DVD player! Absolutely no regrets.
It arrived in a winter week and I was a sick as a dog, which somehow made it even more satisfying to watch, like sitting in on a fever dream.
To my shame, I had never heard Cardiacs until these garage videos were pushed under my nose and I've been joyfully obsessed since. Skill to make one weep, with humor and unique attitude. When the guitarist complains to Tim that he couldn't see because Tim had his eyes closed was just genius! (at least i think that's what he was ranting about...)
I must say my favorite off the DVD has become "Pip As Uncle Dick But Peter Spoiled It", but they are all just absolutely brilliant.
Thanks ever so much to all involved!!! After all my exploring on youtube, my one genuine question is: What has Jim been up to in the interim? Best wishes to Tim and all the family from Switzerland
What's going on here?
Just ordered it. Have not been so exited about buying music since I acquired Tommy at age 13. Am now 44. Missed the feeling.
The problem with becoming a fan of Cardiacs is that afterward it's hard to go back to listening to regular music.
Very true but nothing else matters
Yep, they've made a lot of music obsolete for me.
so true!
Just like Ween.
@@palestalemale8831 Ween and Cardiacs are my two favourite bands!
I just keep posting this band onto my facebook page and none of my friends are liking it so I unfriended all of them .
Screw 'em if they don't get it. (Y)
Haha some/most (square) people just don't get it. Its alien to them, songs should have a nice chorus and be about love. Be grateful you have great taste in music
no, keep them and tell them EVERY FUCKING DAY they have bad taste.
by the way, the majority of people wants to listen to a song in ONE tone and possibly with 3-notes riffs. Yes, it's retardation, they have a primitive brain
haha and me, why don't they get it, tiz f*ckin genius!
If you look at the upper left you get the impression that three hundred and seventy seven thousand or so people have watched this video. Sadly, this isn't true. About three hundred and seventy seven of us have watched it roughly a thousand times over fifteen years. Do try to spread the love of Cardiacs if you can though love.
anyone else listened to this about 100 times?
Yes.
Daily, yes.
😄👍
A lot more than that!
Beautiful orrible noise. Love this session. It'll go down in history.
This is insanely good. Like the Sex Pistols covering a Yes song, on acid, during freefall, through a hurricane, on a different planet.
With Gentle Giant licks
Accurate
Wot e said.
And the best description award goes to...👏
This is a perfect comment
I lost friends over Cardiacs.
Worth it.
good riddance says i
Fuck them all!
They weren't real friends.
I even lost girlfriends. No regret.
@@ReggiePostlethwaite I lost a girlfriend over Primus and Mr Bungle, my wife is deaf however. She likes Tim's smile.
I love coming back here to say how much i love this video and seeing all the other positive comments. What a lovely crowd
put a like to my comment you cunt.
Dear Tim Smith. Rest in Peace. Thank you for the music. Totally unforgettable universe you created with your pals...You will be sorely, sorely missed.
all of them too
Here here!
And there there 🫶🏻
i've heard a damn lot of rock, and its rare to hear anyone really experimenting with the tropes of arrangement this much. a hook will convince me that its going to follow an example like Rush, Devo, or various pop punk sources, and yet, by the end of a measure, i'm being dragged into the realms of the unknosn, suddenly, like a grand surprise.
simultaneously soothing and challenging, i imagine y'all draw a rather intellectual music crowd. i'm hearing Zappa now as i type this, but not just borrowed riff, the idea of Zappa. a good chunk of rock history is represented in this one song, and at no point does it truly commit the sin of unoriginality, thrown into stark contrast by this aural legerdemain.
i'll be finding a way to give this some airwave spread eventually, the show i cohost right now is basically goth centric. i want to do a show of just wild and wacky variety, this would be a gem for that.
All of their stuff is like this...!
Funny how one of the coolest rock music vids on teh interwebs is basically 4 blokes jamming in a tiny cluttered shed while a dog runs around off its lead and it's pissing it down outside.
trust that, they're one of those rare bands that really take advantage of their age too, it used to be a bunch of really insane young guys, now it's really pissed off old guys
True, they really are artists and awesome
proof of god and humor
@AGNES $TECK-- Humor, maybe.
This is not "jamming": this is precisely scripted.
Its amazing, people discovering them for the first time now have exactly the same reaction as I had when I first saw them 25 years ago (and they had been going for years then) .. 'How can they be this good and yet I have never hear of them?!'
Cardiacs are a criminally underrated band who have been ignored by the music press simply because it had no idea what box to put them in.. Prog? Punk? Rock? Psychedelic? The truth is, when you are this good it really doesn't matter.
sadly, the majority of people like banal music with simple, banal chord progression, banal hooks, banal everything, like they themselves are (mirroring in music their attitude). Cardiacs are for mad, adventurous people, the only ones able to change the world.
so true.
Isn't it a strange feeling? To be one of the happy few.....who know.......just how elevated this is. All of it.
The only thing I can imagine coming close to this is watching J.S. Bach improvise on the church organ back in the early 1700's. What I would have loved to just be there in that rotten shed, only a dog by my side and silently watching this unfold. I wouldn't even have minded some verbal abuse.
@@rjwusher that and the smell. I imagine it got a bit whiffy in that cramped lil shed.
Every time he hits the snare drum, that's when the time signature changes
Sometimes he changes it to the same time signature, just to keep everyone on their toes.
wow. this really is tim’s vision come to life. the crazy music is reminiscent of almost every genre including punk, ska, metal, etc. etc. etc. while simultaneously being u like anything i’ve heard before. tim shouting at jim and kavus, unapologetically coughing down the microphone, kavus falling over, the outfits ranging from the big fur coat to just a pair of bills (which i’ve heard were all styled by tim), the messy background filled with wires and all sorts of random objects that gives an atmosphere of chaos, the freakish camera angles, filters and jumpcuts. all of this and so much more culminates into a whirlwind that i find leaves you out of breath and wondering “is this kind of creative freedom even allowed?!”. everyone involved in cardiacs is a complete genius. i’m 15 and so so glad that i’ve discovered cardiacs at such a young age. i can’t wait for my exploration of this magnificent, magnificent band. i love you cardiacs.
*unlike anything i’ve heard before
Glad you found them at such a (relatively) young age. Trust me, they will never let you down.
Very well stated - you are a great writer.
I discovered Cardiacs at 16. I'm 48 now. They have been a big part of my life's journey and shaped me into and through adulthood! Result is I'm pretty fucked but I still adore them!
The utter joy on Kavus' face during the songs opening when his guitar sounds fucking amazing, I'd give a lot to feel like that!!! Been watching this series of videos for the last few days, since we heard about Tim passing away. It helps and hurts at the same time.
I just discovered these guys a couple weeks ago. Sad that Tim left so much on the table through no fault of his own. Timeless music to say the least
You know what's worse? Previously having that feeling quite often, far in the past, but it's only a distant memory, lingering just enough to drive one ever more slightly down. You're better off not experiencing it cuz it's fleeting
RIP Tim WE ALL LOVE YOU
I've been listening to Cardiacs for about 2 or 3 weeks now and have already bought 3 albums! I was a massive fan of mr bungle and mike patton's strange projects growing up as well as Frank Zappa. Its lovely to find another similar group with the same kind of integrity as the others.
I was introduced to Cardiacs when I was accosted by some guy in a pub. I was wearing a Mr bungle shirt, and the guy honestly can't storming up to me, in a really rough pub and said "what a load of shit..."
I was feeling nervous!
He continued "they stole all their stuff from Cardiacs"
Most aggressive band recommendation I've ever encountered
@@thewrastler hahaha! nice
How come Bob Leith is never mentioned when they talk about drummers.....the man is a maniac!.
Absolute monster.
Yes!!!
Possibly the Best Band in the World: Tim Smith is a Pure Genius! & of course Jim!
This popped up on my timeline. I watched it, and enjoyed it. It keeps popping up, I keep watching it. Now I love it.
And here I am again.
Just got in, went on UA-cam to get my daily dose, only to find that........
I am gutted.
A mere 2 years ago, I found this band and have listened to virtually nothing else since - that's the impact they had on me.
My commiserations to Jim and to all the people that knew/worked with Tim, and thanks for what he's provided us - there will never be anyone like Tim again.
Fuck it........
dude I see you everywhere, hello to a fellow Cardiacs fanatic!
Damn it's already been 5 months
5:40 When Kavus falls and grabs the mic stand - and the several times Tim coughs into the mic and yells at Jim yet it all keeps rolling along like some mad thunderstorm
Never noticed that before - made me laugh out loud! Brilliant video!
It's that raw flavour that makes it unique and holds a special place in the world of prog/alt/punk/ska/exp music.
Lol poor Kavus, he took that damn mic stand down with him
As someone who never got to see Cardiacs live these things feel really special. Thanks for uploading these tracks.
I saw them in about 1982 or 83, I can only say that the word trepanning was appropriate. 👍 A spiritual experience in doho.
Everyone else sounds shit since I've discovered the Cardiacs. How do they do it!
Ah yeah!
Same as me thirty years ago.
Darron Edwards Come on. Can, This heat, and the Residents still sound good, cardiacs is still best though, yes
FAST N BULBOUS Jamie in da house
+James Tingle James Tingle in the place, I want to be in the bunker with Jim , kavus and steve davis, sitting in our underpants
you could be the best bassist in the world!, you will NEVER have anything on my underpanted friend here
How right you are.
On Sang All Away Away Jim made me cry. The intro is the Holy Temple of Bass.
Damn straight.
He is a phenomenal bass player.
@@anthonytester3285 agreed
Ok, as usual the best band of the universe.
Blimey! I've never listened to The Cardiacs before. That's amazing. Right: I'm off to listen to loads more of them.
Welcome.
I've been listening to this band almost exclusively for the last 20 months.....it is utter insanity, and yet somehow it all makes sense. Am I normal? If not, I really don't care!
Get well Tim.
Cardiacs. Without ANY doubt, the greatest band on the planet.
Oh my god.Utterly fucking pretentiously shambolic and awesomely awesome. I saw this band as a youngster and the experience warped me, in a very good way. Long live the Cardiacs.
God created the universe just for this to happen.....and she saw it was awesome
With proper headphones on, the recording of the guitars at the start is SAVAGELY stellar.
From about 6 mins this just goes batshit in a way that I can only describe as mesmerising. .. what a absolute glorious thing to behold.
Words cannot express how much I love this song-and this band.

No matter who you are,you need this song in your life!
+Big Dave YES.
Over a quarter million views, genius Timmy. Rest in Peace Leader of the Starry Skies
I think half of those views are mine.
@@erikninnemann7102 Then the other half must be mine…
This is my number 1 favourite Cardiacs clip.
I'm watching the dvd with breakfast on a Sunday morning, and had to load up the song on here so I could comment.
Makes me laugh so much when Tim shouts 'Jim!'
Totally unique, as always Tim Smith, you are missed by so many of us. Truly irreplaceable. RIP wherever you are
More of the best riffs in one tune than the rest of rock music combined.
Laughs in mid 70s Gentle Giant.
I'd love to see Cardiacs again. I've seen them dozens of times all across the UK. No other band puts on a show like it!
Hasn't his voice aged well!
Great vid btw
If you look at the comments on youtube, everyone is freaking out about how great this track is.
+Greg Newholm That right Richard.
Kavus : How do you think you did?"
Timmy: "Don't worry about it."
Baba : "You need to stop with the complaints"
Timmy: "oooah."
He wasn't called the "Mozart" of Surbiton for nothing. ;)
Fuckin' wrote these songs as a teenager too.. Absolutely uncanny.
I'm. Stunned.
I totally ignored them first time round. More fool me. This is insane. I’m in !!!
Could be the greatest song i ever heard completely amazing.
What an incredible piece of music!
Man, even the drummer dragging on 6:06 and on 6:19 is not ugly, and infact, adds up to the whole craziness
Perfection
Every single time I watch it.
This really is pretty fucking good
Been a fan since 1984 the best live band ever no competition hands down
RIP Tim Smith - may your legacy and music carry on with out hearts Xoxo
Best band ever ..RIP Tim
Hurry up and reincarnate so u can give us more music....
What an amazing performance.
Tim Smith, one of the most talented musicians that ever lived... RIP... only the few know how important he was .
I agree!
@@theworldaccordingto4555 I wish I was this good.😭 they were so tight at the start. But I love this loose jam, it's visceral.🤯
Rest in peace Tim. I'm so sad x
I love this... Its does get better!!
I hate that I am now a Cardiacs fan!! It does not feel right with me but I am addicted...🤯
The grin on Tim's face when Kavus and Bubba kick into proper gear at about six minutes always makes me smile so much.
someone once said they have more genius in one song than a lot of bands have in their entire repertoire - i agree
During this period Jim continued to be a stain on the band's reputation, often refusing even refusing to get dressed.
lol
why? but also based hes amazing
Geriatric punk attitude plain and simple. Gotta love it.
For years, I was in a band and we had no idea how much we were trying to sound like these guys. Damn. My life is a lie.
Absolutely brilliant. One of the best things I have ever heard. What a set of rhythms!
I still can't believe you're gone, Tim. Rest easy, my man.
Best band ever. Love and miss you Timmy.
Most punkest thing I’ve seen in forever.
Absolute joy. Best thing on planet Earth. Cardiacs.
This is one of the best things to ever happen. Unbelievable.
🌼 Rest in peace my friend 🌼
RIP Timmy 😭😭😭
These Rotten shed vids are like an addiction for me I keep coming back to it , are these recordings on vinyl i got to have them.
Yep and furthermore Edison Cylinder issues are in the pipeline, watch this space
Brilliant. R.I.P. Tim.
Just brilliant.
JIM!! JIM!!! Don't worry about it.
Three seconds later...JIM!!!
Why? Am I missing something?

I can NOT get enough of that jam at the end of this! I love the rest but that shit at the end makes me want to break stuff and hit things!!
I will NEVER be bored of this song, Everything I like on music is in there!!
One of the most sublime things I've ever heard. So gutted to hear about Tim. Rest in peace x
This song is so beyond anything I've heard in years.I became addicted to The Cardiacs and oh my what an addiction....
HOW do they do it?
When Britain had the best bands in the world.
Now we have Cowell, the tosser.

Thank you for everything, Tim. Rest in peace, brother.
Cant count how many tears in pure delightment I've droppet for this and other songs from Cardiacs. Pure musical intelligence!!!
Simply brilliant. And this is from a 76 yr old fogey who mainly listens to ambient electroni. Why did I never get to see them live 😞
6:36 that transition. The sheer beauty. I shed a tear at that point hearing this for the first time.
That drum fill's beautiful going into that bit. Its whole thing's beautiful dammit!
The more you listen the more you love!
Man, anybody else really want to know what it was that Tim wanted to say to Jim. To go and put some fucking clothes on I imagine.
sshit this might the best shit I have seen in a while. Singer coughing and the baseplayer in his underwear lol
This song is one of my daily practice songs. It never fails to amaze me.
Play with me. Unless you're the jim
I would like that so much my butt hurts. Music never was better.
Oh my God. Actual music. Actual rock n roll. I'm...I'm......
'Discovered' Cardiacs when they supported The Wildhearts. Talk about car crash gig! I was supposed to visit the bar about 3 times during their set but always managed to convince my fellow gig goers that watching Cardiacs was a better bet! Still have my love of The Wildhearts / Ginger but I'm now a convert to the weirder side of life :-) Get well soon Tim, we're all routing for you, even if I was introduced to you a little late!
RIP Tim!
Very late to the party only discovering Cardiacs one year ago, but so glad i discovered such amazing, life affirming music.
This was the video that converted me, truly incredible
Brought the DVD. Tim Smith is an absolute genius.
Man, you say you became a fan of those bands in 1987, and this very song was made at least 7 years earlier, so you're getting to like this more than 30 years late! And I bet many more people will join you even later.
This is "YES" circa "Close to the edge"...pissed off...AND...on speed.....and that's a good thing...like a VERY good thing. Can't stop watching this..
They too had a er.. difficult bassist
All the Cardiac videos have kept me up past my sleepy time and I do not regret getting to work late the next day.
R.I.P Tim, his genius will remembered by fans across the nation 🕊
rest in peace, tim. a true genius
Fucking Brilliant!!!! I'm so goddamn disappointed because I just found this group...and Tim Smith is FUCKING DEAD!!??!! GoD DamN IT!!! I will relish everything they played until I've gone thru all of their work.....Jesus!!! Fucking genius....and speaks to me like not many bands can. RIP T.S. What a brilliant person.
seriously, the best band ever. OK, they share that spot with FZ, Hatfield and the North, Henry Cow, and Magma. Tim is a musical genius.
Very influenced for Van Der Graaf and the style voice of Peter Hammill.
Knifeworld kills
You sir, are obviously a gentlemen of discerning tastes!
Only I'd add Beefheart and KCrim, as well.
@@Bix12 Yes good band, however they are Johnny-Come-Latelys; the bands listed above were pioneers of the genre (along with Split Enz who hugely influenced Cardiacs)
BEST BAND EVER !!!!
