I have the 2023 Tacoma TRD offroad 2WD due to pulling a travel trailer. In Florida there is no need for a 4X4 unless you live on a farm or just like four wheeling. It's my 5th Tacoma and it's super great.
I bought a 23 TRD Off Road, double cab with the Premium and Technology pkgs, and a 6’ bed. I Love my White Tacoma that I had 2 toned in Barcelona Red in the lower body lines of my truck. I also had Katzkin make TRD Red seat covers with black trim and stitching. After Katzkin removed the Black factory Leather from my seats and installed the TRD red leather, I sold the black leather seat covers to a friend who also has a 23 TRD with gray cloth interior. So now he’s happy with the Black Leather and I’m happy with the Red Leather. I also installed a K&N cold air intake and a Flowmaster Flow FX dual exhaust and an Overland Tailor Tune. I installed some TRD Red trim pieces on the interior of my Tacoma. Next I’ll buy new Centerline wheels. I’ve heard about retractable running boards, so I’m trying to find out where they are so I can have them installed on my Tacoma
Excellent truck, well done. Have you considered other wheels? I really liked the look of the Braid wheels on the old Land Cruiser I drove a couple of months ago.
I drive a Tacoma limited everyday for work. A manual transmission eliminates the one biggest weakness of my Tacoma: the auto transmission. Wish it was available on all trim levels.
I don't think I've ever tried the auto Tacoma. I may be wrong, but I recall picking one up the day I got my ankle cast off, which was a good thing because I couldn't drive it with the cast!
I love my Tacoma OR with manual trans. The context of mid-size pickup which is the modern, less-compact but still long-term valuable shouldn't be lost. Big and heavy loads or zesty sport-quick driving are not the point, but for those of us who want a nice, fun driving pickup- 4wheeler, day driver, versatile rig I still love them like I always have (I am unsure why your test truck doesn't have wireless charging- my double-cab has it. Please understand that everyone with a Tacoma vid brings up the 'long-throw' thing, but it is decent up and down the six gears. Downshifting with some occasional throttle blip is fine and it comes out of turns great and in shape to keep it headed where you want. Again Context, how about one of the only Manual options out there, p.s. any mid-motor with an auto is still shifting because of the general range of power and ratios provided vs. load-demand (with a manual I am more-so involved with that which is what I want)? How about decent milage for its modest (mid-size) HP. Your input was better than most videos. Fortunately I am shorter so the position feels great (natural), and I am spry so the little lift/hop into the driver's seat is fine. Have I mentioned that I love the thing? It's a mid-sized sweet spot without a gimmicky interior, even if it isn't perfect, and somehow I will keep smiling- even when I set the hood prop to put windshield fluid in it! A couple must-have upgrades: the Tacoma mat and an easy to use tonneau cover for the back, and I like the exhaust upgrade (additionally there is now Cat-protection avail.). I did other 'enhancements' in the build and afterwards (better suspension w/ only a one inch lift, better/lighter TRD Pro wheels, etc, etc). Implicit there is that there are a ton of upgrade options- Thanks!
Nice review and with a Canadian prospective. I recently purchased a 2023 TRD Pro with a manual transmission and I love driving it. I had a 2020 Pro in the automatic transmission and I prefer the manual. I liked your prospective driving the manual. Cheers
Most reviews claim the seats are too low to the floor but you felt the seat was too high off of the floor. That's puzzling, I have one of these and the seat feels fine.
Brian that is one of my personal rides, and the one I drive most lol. I am 6’ 2 and seating position is a little strange but man I love it. I have the V6 TRd sport 4x4 and virtually nothing goes wrong with it. Did I Say I love it? Complaints, other than seating position wish the wheel telescoped more lol. If you like old school ride and dynamics it is great and you can accessorize to nth degree.
Toyota and our mechanic told me that I should put our Tacoma in 4WD high once a month for a short period of time just to make sure it’ll continue working properly, so since our driveway is about 1/8 of a mile, once a month I put my truck into 4WD high until I get to the county road and then I put it back into 2WD. Of course during the winter months we have our Tacoma in 4WD high most of the time as we get 5-7 feet of snow every winter.
I think the 4x4 off-road is a much better model for most people because who really is going to need Fox shocks for a $10,000 price increase? Yeah there's a couple other small things you get like 360 camera & just other bullshit all I needed was a reliable truck that can pull my 5x10 enclosed trailer and save for the family and go off-road a little bit if I need to
Have a Toyota 2022 TRD OR 4x4 we bought to pull a small utility sized camper that weighs less than 2500 lbs loaded. Live in the Tampa, FL area and camp several times a year in the N. Georgia & W. North Carolina Smoky Mountain areas. Enjoy the ride & the adventures.
@@georgedreher2322 hell yeah 🆒 dude these 🛻💨 to me r the perfect setup I think the new Tacoma is going to be badass especially if you get it with the hybrid system because ⛽ mileage will probably be 8-10 MPG better than what our trucks get. But I'll take shity mileage over better mileage that's got a turbo & a hybrid system because God only knows how reliable that's going to be after 150K miles. The automatic transmission & the manual transmission + the V-6 motor in these tacomas has more than proven itself imo
100% agree it can get out of its own way but speed is not its thing. I have the automatic and it will also down shift on highways all the time when you get to a hill. A little annoying but one gets used to it.
@@BrianMakse that’s bizarre, you in Canada? That’s like my Side by Side. In Canada they have turning signals and horns already installed but oh no not in the U.S.. had to pay to get the factory signals to work and a horn installed along with a fuse block. What a pain.
I don’t know if anyone else mentioned it but the Tacoma TRD Off Road at least does include wireless charging. There’s a charging pad under the radio and in front of the gear shift.
Basically the same truck since 2005. Toyota grated different noses, changed the tailgate and changed a few lines on the sides. Nothing wrong with that, just amazing that this basic shell is almost 20 years old! Just like the T-100 was basically the same shell moving into the 1st Gen Tundra until 2007. I have owned both and they feel the same, one with a 6 cyl the other could be had with an 8. Having said this, Toyota gets the formula right and will not be pressured to put advanced tech in their vehicles for a more straight forward maintenance/ownership experience.VM
Bought a 23 Off Road 2wd in September 2023. Don't need 4wd just a reliable truck. It's great. Acceleration and gas mpg could be better or but it's nice and simple. Don't trust the new 24 turbos
I got my TRD Sport 6MT DCSB just a month ago and am so pleased with the way it drives! totally Wirth the 7 month wait!!! btw Im also in Ontario! But you by no means need to run it to redline, at all lol.
I wonder why the US market doesn’t get the manual in the trd off-road access cab? Only sport and pro I was told. Same models get the wireless charging mine did
Only 4 colour options in this trim & no manual double cab long box.( Canada)2023. Must be a shortage of paint? & didn't want different driveshaft builds??
My 2021 TRD OR does have a wireless charging pad. It’s awful, and I never use it. However, mine has one. Maybe the Canadian versions don’t have wireless charging.
@@BrianMakse can't understand why you can get an access cab TRD off road in the states but not with a manual. Same exact truck as the Canadian version, just no stick down here. Mind boggling, but it is what it is.
Yes, they have wireless charging. May not be available with the manual transmission though. Mine is an auto & has the pad located below the dash in front of the shifter. It's not very powerful & can have a problem with phones in cases or if they have camera lenses sticking out the back. Toyota could really have done a better implementation on this.
I have a 2021 TRD OR and mine also has the same wireless charging pad in the dash. I find it is finicky, especially with phone cases. I don’t even bother using it.
It's a little weird that you wouldn't do a little research. My 2020 TRD Tacoma has a wireless charger where you Said one should go. Also redlining it to get on the highway? Are you mad? Do some research dude. You sound ignorant on this subject.

I hear ya but the auto still gets better mpg.
I bought one 2 months ago. Steering wheel is adjustable, up/down and in/out. You can lower it to make it a bit more vertical & pull it closer to you.

Great review. I just bought a TRD off Road 2023 Taco in black

I just got mine 7-01-2023 in California double cab 5’ bed TRD 4x4 off road I’m happy every day drive
I just like that the engine won’t cut off at the light. And offered in manual.
It's a complete anachronism in 2023.
Wish the USA got the TRD OR AC with a 4x4 and manual transmission
Don't move to Canada for this.
Most reviews claim the seats are too low to the floor but you felt the seat was too high off of the floor. That's puzzling, I have one of these and the seat feels fine.

They definitely have wireless charging. I thought it was standard with the trd OR but my 19 OR has it right there where you mentioned.
Evidently not standard in Canada
