- This is a program in the "Broadcast Pioneer" series hosted by Don Blair (Mutual/NBC radio) where he interviews the legends in broadcasting. This episode features an interview with Peter Thomas who's voice has been heard on thousands of commercials on radio and television as well as narration for shows like Nova and Forensic Files. This series was produced and aired on METV in Bradenton and Sarasota, FL in 2003/04. Don Blair provided updated introductions to each episode. (www.dougmilesmedia.com). I miss George Page's narrative voice. David Attenborough is also getting up there in age also. They are and were a delight to listen to while watching a documentary. 👍👍👍

Steve Arbogast, yes indeed R.I.P. I remember being 13 or 14 years old listening to this guy and being and thinking "wow, this guy is good at this". He was talking about frozen bodies they dug up and were testing. (I don't remember where they were anymore, it was a LONG time ago.) I'm really sorry he's gone.

Peter Thomas has a voice that keeps you on the edge of your seat, wondering, thinking, what's going to happen next. He speaks clearly, his grammar, spelling, english, pronounciation is heard very well.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Peter for almost 20 years, he voiced many commercials that I directed and often he was not only my first choice, but my only choice. But on top of being an incredible narrator, he was simply an amazing person... a finer man has never lived. I will miss him immensely. Rest well, my friend.
He narrates forensic files, always makes it much better to watch with a voice like his. Love it!

It's 1 AM in the morning, I'm 25 and I'm watching Forensic Files on HLN right now. HLN thankfully has Forensic Files marathons every night. That's how I found about this guy. I love his voice. I love narrators even the ones who does movie trailers. :)

I started listen to Forensic Files shortly after I started trucking. Music and most podcasts get dull after so many hundred hours of driving. But when I get real sleeping driving through dark at 3 am I know that Peter Thomas will keep me wide awake with suspense.

I'm 50 years-old and when I was in school about every educational film we watched had Mr. Thomas narrating it. From how to dissect a frog to how smoking is bad for you. He was my favorite "teacher" all those years and still today when I hear his voice I think of crayons and mimeographed lessons ( yes, I remember what the pages smelled like).
I'm watching this Nova documentary on the D-Day battlefield, and there's his voice again. It's awesome to still hear him on TV.
Ditto, I'm 54 and I remember his voice on everything from educational to advertising. And he's still doing it!
I used to fall asleep to this guys voice every night! Between him and Bill Curtis they can make the worst details somehow easy listening! Thats a golden voice .And so sad hes gone. Bil is still around and also has a great personal story. Thanks for this. Now i knkw what he looks like! Huh. I never imagined him so its kinda fine. I just LOVED to sleep to him discussing DNA amd NOVA
I was honored to work with Peter as a film sound mixer in New York, and also to hire him for a show I directed. his voice sparkled in ads and assured you in docs, and educated you on PBS. He was the nicest guy you ever wanted to work with. A monster in his field, who was as sweet and gentle as a country pastor. Especially in his straw hats. Rest in Peace, Peter.

That man can read a yellow pages and I would be mesmerized by his vocal. I probably would get drunk and inebriated just listening to that amazing voice. RIP. Peter.

I’ve been listening to Forensic Files almost my entire life & just recently learned that Peter has passed away. What a beautiful, astute, brilliant narrator. Without knowing you, you have touched my life in such a special way. I thank you sir, from the bottom of my heart, so much.

I've loved Forensic Files for a long time, and began really appreciating the narrator. I told my gf how great he is, and how his voice is absolutely perfect for the show. She asked his name, and I didn't know. Intending to look it up but getting sidetracked, I ended up watching the show that evening. And at the end, I saw that Peter Thomas was the narrator. I just googled to be very saddened that we lost him. But the recordings of that amazing voice will live on eternally.
Mr. Thomas sounds different in this vide than he does when he is narrating something such as on Nova or Forensic Files....but, it's nice to finally put a face to the voice.

This guy narrated just about everything from my childhood, from filmstrips, to books, to TV shows, and it amazed me a few years ago when I finally saw what he looked like. I had always imagined a younger guy with a full head of dark hair, not what I finally saw. Thomas was the greatest narrator of all time and no one will ever match him.
Peter was a good friend. We worked together on many projects.

I came to NYC to be a recording engineer in 1975. I was lucky enough to get a job at a one man studio there when I started where I met Peter Thomas and learned what being a professional was. Thank you Peter. A more respected man I've never met. I know what he means when he talks about missing New York.

As a recording engineer Peter Thomas was the first Voice Over I ever worked with back in 1975 in New York City. Peter did it all from nationwide commercials to reading medical books. He did his homework before every recording session and would make suggestions as to pronunciation of a word or a reading. A great talent and a great man. Peter's voice was so engrained in my mind it became a feel good voice. His income in the 70's was $10,000 a week. What a talent.

Iconic, Amazing, Passionate voice. I have been watching forensic files reruns every night for over a decade. Some I've seen 50+ times and i never tire of it because of this man's voice. Also on a side note, it was crazy how good his memory was at 80 years old. And the fact that his voice was still so strong up until his last year or so. I saw an interview with him in 2013 (aged 89) and he still had the same voice & memory, Recalling every name and date from the past 50+ years. He truly lived a blessed life. What an outstanding man!
What a great smooth, velvety voice. Peter Thomas proves that there is much more to announcing than having a big, ballsy, voice. If I were a client I would choose him anytime over someone who was lazy and relied on his lungs to do all of the work. His voice was his instrument, and he knew all of the notes.
His voice reminds me of Sam Mercurio narrator of "The Plague" a documentary of the History Channel from around 2005

Voice actors, announcers and narrators are never given the credit they deserve, yet they are immensely important to every production. Alexander Scourby was another monumental announcer and narrator, who started as an actor and narrated many biblical and religious productions...often called the "Voice of God". I'm sure both Alexander and Peter are now in narrator heaven, announcing sporting events, horse races, and doing great books on tape !!!

Peter Thomas passed away in Florida on May 1, 2016 at the age of 91. For many of us he was the voice of Forensic Files and so many other programs. His distinctive narration helped make Forensic Files the success it became.

I remember as a 10 year old in 1964 hearing Mr Thomas voice at the New York worlds fair in the Travelers Insurance exibit and it made such an impression on me that I've never forgotten his voice and I've heard him narrating so many things since.He is a true classic with a one of a kind voice.

Such a distinctive voice and an amazing career, I first heard his voice on a record of the History of Man exhibit from the 1964-65 NY Worlds Fair. A souvenir foldout with a record inside that you had to sign up for at the fair and they mailed to you. Narrated by Mr. Thomas with picture from the exhibit.
Wow! what a voice? For the interview of course he sounds different but in a studio where he is in charge to present a documentary or a commercial, that lovely voice springs out. the voice we all love so much.. thanks for sharing your gift Peter Thomas. thanks for posting
if you were a kid in the 80s, you had Troll Associates books with audio. He narrated most of them: "Stone Soup", "Beauty and the Beast"... he was so memorable. The voice of my childhood! 😭 May he rest in peace.

He was the voice behind the infamous careunit alcohol treatment ads of the 1980s :) if you saw those , you would really know how scary his voice was.
