The american tile roof makes use of plywood boards as base to support the tiles instead of using a lot of wood battens on top of water proof underlayments. I think the American way using plywood base roof to support the tiles gives a stronger and better roof.
If you add all this gear to the price of the job you wouldn't get it. Some nerd sitting in a office coming up with this crap to make more money for redland.

I shudder to think how much this costs and it looks terrible. Get a proper roofer in to do it properly.
