  • Half an hour is all it takes to get the Goldstar ready to use after standing for more than a year.

Watching you start it reminded me of being at a pre 65 trial on the Isle of Man, around 26 years ago.
One of the competitors was struggling to start his Norton. My friend had owned a similar one back in the 60s..
His offer of help was gladly accepted. He adjusted the advance and started the bike on the second kick.
He was smiling the rest of the day!

That is interesting, I had a similar experience in1996 after returning to the mainland after TT weak on the Isle of man. A chap could not start his 500cc Goldstar at a filling station. I offered him a push and spent some time pushing him around before the bike started. You don't get to do that often to a Goldie.

    Lovely bike, Phil
Nice to see a bike like this well so cared for.
Looking forward to seeing it out for a run!

I agree the Goldies are stunning. Damp can also be a problem here. My garage is unheated. With no ceiling even a weak winter sun warms it up nicely and drives the damp away. In summer it is very hot with temperatures between 40° and 50°C. It is still better than green motorcycles.

Nice. I saw a beautiful example of one around my neck of the woods only a month or so ago. Oh, and please tell me that oil wasn't as bad as it looked.

The oil looked worse than it is. It is difficult to find because 50 monograde oil isn't use anywhere nowadays.

Very nice Phil! And it does tick over OK with a GP carb, they just need setting up correctly to do this, when are we going up the mountain again on the Vincent? Is the road open again? Stay safe! Chris B.

Thanks Chris, the road is open but with lots of stop go's. I am waiting for a nice clear road. Hopefully soon.
