Thank you Motormouth for this brilliant, simple and efficient car review, you can appreciate it. It becomes rarely to find an easy straightforward review like this. The M340i Xdrive is just an outstanding car and it is a breakthrough from the Bavarian auto maker. We are waiting enthusiastically for the M3.
Very nice loaded tester vehicle, only thing missing is the black shadow line and Kidney grills package. Other options that the above tested vehicle included are: Upgraded Laser LEDs, Parking Assistance professional (Parallel; perpendicular and semi-autonomous driving), Adaptive Suspension and full front Walknappa Leather dash!. Very similar build to my BMW 330 G20. Even for the 4-cylinder model, definitely enjoy driving the new G20! - Tanzanite Blue II Metallic colour awesome indeed.
@Paul Lindo I think we will have to wait and see how depreciation is. Newer BMWs don't hold their value all that well either. Luxury cars in general lose value pretty quickly. What I can expect is that repair costs and parts will be significantly cheaper and that alone is the reason I chose the g70.
I agree. I can't justify paying so much more for the 3 series especially with the ridiculous gauge cluster it has. The inline 6 from BMW is actually wonderful, I'll concede that. I also have driven a 335i and was most impressed at how smooth and yet powerful that engine was. But, I've also driven a Genesis - a G80, in my case - and was impressed at how vault-like and comfortable it was going down the road, along with how easy it was to hop in and use every feature in the car. I do plan to try out the new 3 series soon, since my lease on my IS is nearly up.
@Paul Lindo I can't really comment about the g20 platform but I just traded in my e92 lci 335. I do like the noise the BMW made but it had annoyances. Water pump went out at 40k miles, cup holder spring snapped, rear sunshade got stuck in the winter, weird electrical parasite causing battery discharge. I took good care of it and did oil changes more frequently than the suggested 15k. I traded it in with 55k miles. The f30 chassis on the other hand was such a disappointment.
The 340 definitely has the superior engine/performance, but I don't think it's that much better to justify a 20k premium over the G70. Also, to me, the G70 is a better looking sedan. I don't like how these luxury sedans are getting bigger and bigger. I prefer the smaller size of the G70.
Ahhhhh!,! That is what I told my wife. It’s about percentages, 10% improvement in performance does not justify %25 increase in cost. Realistically we do day to day driving, low riding cars bottom out and become a pain and risk.
The oil change ain't 'free.' It's baked into the price. Buy one for the engine, tranny, brakes, suspension, and ergonomics. That's why I did and that straight six engine is mighty fine.
Zach, I agree with everything you said in this video. This car is incredible, but it is just TOO DAMN EXPENSIVE! My brother was recently looking at a car in this segment, and we took a look at this M340, the S5 Sportback, C43, and G70. He ended up getting the G70 because it is an amazing car, looks great IMO (esp. the rear 3/4 view), and it cost about $17K less than a similarly equipped M340! That is just absolutely ridiculous. Had price not been an object, he definitely would've went with the 340, as it was the nicest car in the segment. The reality though, is that price matters; if it didn't, he would get an M3 or something.
Thanks for the review. However there is really no comparison to the G70 Genesis. In the Canadian market the comparable BMW is over $20k more ( including winter tires and rims and extended warranty ) with a better warranty and probably better reliability. I have owned many BMWs and loved every one. But here there is actually no comparison. Buy the G70 and buy another new 20k$ car for someone else in the family. No thanks BMW. After 4 3series, including my present 335i, I am switching to the other German. Building cars for so many years but can't design proper gaskets does not cut it. @Harald Vestov thanks! I really wanted the Sportback and here in the States it just came out as a 2018 model year, so nothing on the used market. I did get it fully loaded. I would save a bit of cash if there were used ones. I figured if I'll keep the car for 6 years it shouldn't be that bad. Fingers crossed it will hold up. A4 is also a great car and would save me more money, but I needed a more practical car, I do a lot of mountain biking and fishing and I wouldn't go for no SUV.

The difference in horsepower between the european and the North American m340i has a reason. The european m340i must have a particular Filter for emission regulations. Using this filter decreases the power and the sound unfortunately.

BMW pulls away but at a cost of almost $20 thousand when you compare to the Genesis. So, not really fair comparison and Genesis wins with its value for dollar.
Personally, i think the 330i is the one to go for. It seems like the best value for money. If i was spending this sorta money, id much rather spend the extra and get the m3 when it comes out.

This doesn't feel at all like an M and they are asking for M money. The interior may look good on the surface, but is lower in quality than the outgoing generation and the ride is too harsh. I own a 2016 F80 M3 and it is leaps and bounds better and right now you can get new ones cheaper than the M340i.
I really like this 3 Series, but I think you gave it too much credit. It's only a tenth of a second faster to 100 than the G70. The interior isn't as nice. And it's 25K more, comparably equipped. Even if you like it better, it's not 25K better. Win for Genesis.
borzica No offence, but with the previous models that actually had manual shifters, how many did you buy? They are catering to the people that actually buy & drive several of their new cars regularly and not to wishes, requests, or people who buy one once every 7-10years.
@Paul Lindo ye, it gets annoying seeing this on here. Clearly people are not buying them, if they were they would make them. They are not going to put Manuel's to cater to the 100s that buy them.

Unfortunately basically all German cars do it... its because the cars are styled to best accommodate a Euro license plate, rather then a Canadian or American plate. The pricing is getting crazy.
64000$ for a 3 series?!!😲😲
It's crazy pricing..
He said $72k on the one he was testing! I paid under $50K for my G70. Traded my 2016 IS 350 Fsport & I'm happier than ever a thousand miles later. $25K less and close in handling, power, & in my opinion better styling. Don't get me wrong, I love the BMW, but once I drove the G70 my decision was made.
@@tayloromeara7974 yeah..these german car manufactures need a serious price overhaul especially after GM went all guns blazing out with the C8 pricing.. 70000$ for a 3 series is a pure prank..if someone really wants the bmw i6 then the toyota supra would be a much better buy IMO.
@@tayloromeara7974 even this particular model does not look that good especially that gawdy frontend and lack of any aggressive stance makes it worse..it looks like a regular 3 series..
@@tayloromeara7974 g70 is indeed a great choice, mate and you won't be shelling bigbucks interms of maintenance unlike a german.. Full peace of mind. Koreans have come a long way and their cars are good looking too unlike these modern day Bimmers with their over inflated kidney grills.. Just look at the kia stinger. Lots of character, decent reliable engine and technology... BMW should have priced the 3er aggresively now that all of their cars don't have any charms(f10,E92,f01 were the last good looking bimmers)
64k and you get all the technology that comes along with it. It's not the 3 series of yesterday and award winning engine. Just my opinion and yes I own BMW's and am loyal to the brand. Nothing bad to say about Hyundai but I looked at G70 and although it's a nice car, not for me.
Hi, I saw you in the restaurant the other day. Sorry it was an awkward moment, I wasn't having a good day that day. I like your content, and like your perspectives, keep up the good work!
No problem. Always stop and say hi
Only thing in my cars backseat is luggage, I’m not a chauffeur
Always great reviews
I thought the tires on the m340’s weren’t staggered now?
The 0-60mph is 4.1 secs and even quicker
Hi Zak, how do you think it compares to the Mercedes C43 AMG? Similar engine performance on paper, but not sure about the drive.
Ya funny and he doesn't even mention the C43
2019 C43 is more exciting
BMW pulls away but at a cost of almost $20 thousand when you compare to the Genesis. So, not really fair comparison and Genesis wins with its value for dollar.
Top of the line trim in USA is $52 USD. He's quoting in USD so $20 grand difference.
Go on Genesis USA and build your model. Top spec is $52k. Google is your friend. He quoted the price is USD
BMW fanboy also wears Gucci. Muffy is waiting.
I hate there is no RWD at least as an option in Canada!!!
So the xdrive also has staggered wheels?
This is XDrive.
Them Lexus taillights.....and the kidney grilles are not even grilles
"I don't think BMW is taking enough chances with their styling on the outside" - Zack
"Hold my grill" - BMW M Division
haha, so true
Personally, i think the 330i is the one to go for. It seems like the best value for money.
If i was spending this sorta money, id much rather spend the extra and get the m3 when it comes out.
The only thing about it..is they are about to be made out of MEHICO..so they will make even more profit off of you.. Now.... I like the car just fine but I would not leave any dealer without borderline stealing the thing from them. If that does'nt happen..... I will just wait it out and keep screwing with multiple dealers. I've done it over and over again...
Jay Lee when will they start building them in mexico?
Yeah if your aim is a 3 series youre prob right
But i have to say that in my country 330i M sport is the exact same price as a S60 T8 hybrid (407 hp) with much more security and comfort tech...
I know it’s strange question, but can you compare this car to Macan S you drove lately? Which is more fun to drive? I am trying to decide between these 2 cars and any help will be appreciated! Thx!
Try them both. I would take the Macan S, just more practical., better resale.
I have tried Macan S and it’s great car, I tried 330 but my dealer can’t get 340 for a test drive....Thx Zack for info!
Hi Zack, in which part of BC was this filmed?
Vancouver and West Vancouver
I'll wait 2-3 years when it's less than half the price
... and broken
@@cncfan not necessarily you can find them under 50k miles still under warranty
@@keysersoze4001 these are designed to be reliable for the first 50k miles. At about 60k miles, the water pump fails and goes into limp mode. $1600 at the dealer to fix.
The Genesis still looks like a better choice. This is 20k more!! That’s hard to justify
This doesn't feel at all like an M and they are asking for M money. The interior may look good on the surface, but is lower in quality than the outgoing generation and the ride is too harsh. I own a 2016 F80 M3 and it is leaps and bounds better and right now you can get new ones cheaper than the M340i.
did you see a roach at 02:10?
0-100 actually 4.2 sec - some have it 4.1
Might be 0-60mph. 4.4 is official BMW rating
@@Motormouth... I am showing 4.1 seconds 0-60 on the BMW website for the xDrive and 4.4 seconds 0-60 on the RWD. What am I missing?
I really like this 3 Series, but I think you gave it too much credit. It's only a tenth of a second faster to 100 than the G70. The interior isn't as nice. And it's 25K more, comparably equipped. Even if you like it better, it's not 25K better. Win for Genesis.
@Paul Lindo It's NOT 72 loaded. It's 76.
Since the E92 335i and M3 BMW has not been the same
At least they have one reliable model in their lineup!!!!!! Looks good....
What color is that?
Blue
Its called Tanzanite Blue 2
Great car, Great review. right on pint.
Long as it was positive you were in😂. Not biased at all
only one complaint is the auto stop function. you have to disable it every time starting
@@monkeyd8443 all the same
@@monkeyd8443 yup
The first thing I’ll do if get one of these 3 series is take the M badge of the front fenders, is too tacky
“Fake” M badge at that.
wtf is with the grille
Check engine light
Nobody gives a fuck go drive Toyota.
Ah BMW... I remember when _40 meant there was a V8 under the hood, and a car this size was a 5 Series...
@Benjamin Mathew Right, but that's what I mean. That car is huge now. It's like the size of the old 740i standard wheelbase.
@@diegomontoya8889 Just BMW?
@@stevem2323 No, Mercedes too. The E400? I mean there is not a 4.0L Straight 6 or V8 under the hood of that thing.
Do you come to ontario often?
HUH?
@@Motormouth... lol what are you confused about?
Yes, I go often.
@@Motormouth... what do you have next in the pipeline for cars to review?
Finally bmw have differentiated the 335/40is as the m340i with slight differences
That's my next car.
Zack. Do you think Bentley would let you review a Mulsanne Speed?
Nice video, hope that there will be 4k60fps video resolution in the future!!👍👍
No more manual?!?! What's going on?!
borzica No offence, but with the previous models that actually had manual shifters, how many did you buy? They are catering to the people that actually buy & drive several of their new cars regularly and not to wishes, requests, or people who buy one once every 7-10years.
@Paul Lindo ye, it gets annoying seeing this on here. Clearly people are not buying them, if they were they would make them. They are not going to put Manuel's to cater to the 100s that buy them.
Now show me that apple carplay hahha wait have to pay to use that ahahah , now on my g70 i got free connected service with remote start , 100k warranty, free carplay , free maintenance they come to get the car at my house without me having do anything and leave a loaner , good luck with that on the bmw lol
i need to get one,
Man 72k CAD, might as well pony up the extra 5-7k and get the M3
Rollergold4 M3s are usually over $100k at the dealer
You can only tell apart from the new tail lights, otherwise same same to most people.
ayy.. where the video at?
benchmark? no Android Auto in 2019!, and 60$ per year for buggy like hell wireless Apple Car Play :)
and non configurable very questionable gauge cluster, and lexus rear tail lights
BMW Doesnt have Android auto due to privacy concerns.
M340i looks better on black than this colour
I mean of course I see the differences :D but there is no „regular“ 340i anymore? Just the M sport, right?
Correct
Interior > exterior
Exterior is sublime.
The front license plate seems to overlap the kidney grill. Not sure that's the look I'd be going for on a $72,000 vehicle...yikes.
Unfortunately basically all German cars do it... its because the cars are styled to best accommodate a Euro license plate, rather then a Canadian or American plate.
Some car models actually get it right but it changes from year to year and its unfortunate as It definitely kills the nice clean look of many German sports cars.
