One of the greatest drummers alive. Oh, and for those that insist on comparisons ("portney is way better", etc.). A measure of the skills and talent of drummer you want to compare to another drummer is to ask: can another drummer replicate what this one is doing, and vice versa. Mr. Jimbo can play almost anything anyone else can play, but it would very rare for the opposite. What you watching in this video is amazing.
Portnoy isnt that great to be fair. He just had a band full of first ballot HOFers. Portnoy has a limited bag of tricks really..and from what I understand is a mega dick to work with.
I have read in many videos over youtube where Akira is performing as the class act he is, nasty comments about his style or skills... of course those are people who feel an immense envy and hate for this magnificent drummer... He is flawles every note he plays, just perfect!!! I am sure you're not a shitty drummer, everyone has unique qualities and it's just about how we explode them into the best level that matches for us... if you love music and practice you can't be that bad!! Cheers!!...
It's hard to ge better than this, kids. I don't care who you are or what you like or don't like. It fits the music perfectly, and the execution is flawless. You don't even have to like this type of music to hear that.
this is a very early production from over a decade and a half ago (in 1992 i think), and Akira Jimbo has taken his art of live-drummin+"live sequencing" to a whole 'nother level. ain't noby quite like him in the whole world!
The sequence from 4:30 to 4:41 is so good it brings a tear to my eye...seriously. One of my favorite drummers! Oh, if you watch the short fill at 5:14 he makes a mistake and smiles about it! I'm almost positive that he meant to end that fill on a crash cymbal instead of the ride cymbal. I've seen him goof before and he just grins it off! Great stuff!
I have been into Akira, for 15 yrs. And I always knew he was incredible. But I never got to see this video. OMG. I passed out. Thank you Akira for continuing to inspire me. Again,,,, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!.
He has incredible indepence and the ability to launch into intricate Afro/Cuban polyrhythms at will. I'd say he's one of my favorite drummers to listen to...it's always educational!
Holy shit..reminds me alot of the Frank Zappa Synclavier compositions like G-Spot tornado..awesome stuff, really glad I just found this guy..instant favorite.
I've played drums my whole life, I'm pretty good, but when I watch, and listen to Akira I realize that talent just flows through some people like breathing. I'm not one of them.
This has got to be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. What else does Ishiguro Akira do? Does anyone know of any other similar music out there by this guy? I checked the others from this Akira Jimbo video series. Very cool stuff. My kind of music. Reminds me of some of the stuff from Bruford's "One of a Kind" album, only better. Let me know if anyone is familiar with other music of this caliber.
You must have missed 'Metamorphosis' then, the album this tune is on, also, this is from a Yamaha Drum Instructional VHS Tape, I still have a copy of it, it is what got me in to drumming, Akira Jimbo is also largely responsible for midi drum triggers in the very beginning, a living percussive legend / innovator.
Aerobics of Alien says it right because Akira is playing just like one in this one. His mental acuity, mathematically speaking, and physical facility on the kit is no doubt "out-of-this-world; maybe...extraterrestrial.(?)
Why does every comment about what Akira plays have to be qualified or supplemented with "of Japan"? Can't we just acknowledge him for what he is: one of the most talented drummers ever, and certainly better than Dave Weckl.
God I love this guy!-Quite simply the most amazing performance I've seen-He does indeed play like an 'Alien' on this one. It's perfect apart from ( and I'm sure Akira himself would admit this) that one extra Hi-hat stab at 1.51.....should have only played three, but he puts a fourth one in...he's human after all I guess!.
@BlooBeluga lol I doubt if that'll happen since he's busy with other projects....he might do it though if he can program it into his DTX trigger system....
I really like his footwork on the hi-hat. Many drummers now forgot about the basic of hi-hat footwork when they've learn the double pedal footwork. *That includes me, FYI*
@weedkiller10 I understand that this is the point of Akira's compositions, but the criticism I've levied is about how this is less about making good music and more about gymnastics. There are plenty of compositions by drummer/composers whose drumming is very technical and precise but the music doesn't sound like Mario Bros./Elevator music/Berklee freshman work. Benny Greb, JoJo Mayer are two such drummers.
I think about this every few years and have to come back.
恐らく作曲者であろう、
石黒彰氏にもっとスポットが当たると良いですね。
ブラフォード、Zappa、などの要素が詰まった名曲です。
This should have a million views.
Great isn't it. Amazing..
One of the greatest drummers alive.

i agree with you

Portnoy*
Can't believe you analyzed every living drummer alive to come up with this data!
I have read in many videos over youtube where Akira is performing as the class act he is, nasty comments about his style or skills... of course those are people who feel an immense envy and hate for this magnificent drummer... Killer drummer. I love this guy!! Go Akira!!
I have been watching Jimbo for years. I am a Latin jazz drum teacher in Vegas and I
have learned so much from him. Thank you Akira Jimbo.
I set this guys drumset up for this guy once when I was working at Mars Music. It was a three day affair. Worth every minute in experience.
It's hard to ge better than this, kids. I don't care who you are or what you like or don't like. It fits the music perfectly, and the execution is flawless. You don't even have to like this type of music to hear that.

I didn't ever seen anyone to play like Jimbo!!
It's absolutely fantastic!!!
Hahaha! Good stuff
Can everyone here agree Jimbo is the greatest of all time?
Wow, so complicated and precise, yet fluent and seemingly effortless play.
Dennis and him are my 2 faves
I have been into Akira, for 15 yrs. And I always knew he was incredible. But I never got to see this video. OMG. I passed out. Thank you Akira for continuing to inspire me. Again,,,, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!.
It's taken from the VHS "Metamorphosis" . You can watch the entire film by fallowing this link: ua-cam.com/video/l2J0QZv8DTA/v-deo.html
He is hands down the best drummer of all time. Don't even argue.
Sounds like something you'd hear in some classic sega or super nintendo game. I LOVE VIDEO GAME MUSIC!!!
The textures he gets out of the hihat are amazing...wonderful touch!
trouser and shoe combination; glorious.
Incredible composition, incredible playing !
This guy is the Bruce Lee of drummers!
Kick ass! Very musical!
Thanks Sweckling for posting this, I needed that!
He has incredible indepence and the ability to launch into intricate Afro/Cuban polyrhythms at will. I'd say he's one of my favorite drummers to listen to...it's always educational!
Damn! I've watched this many many times, and just...Damn.
you are a master akira! 3 bows to your incredible tecnique and art!
Just amazing! Akira owns! Definitely in my list of top drummers!
Holy shit..reminds me alot of the Frank Zappa Synclavier compositions like G-Spot tornado..awesome stuff, really glad I just found this guy..instant favorite.
Notice that he is one of the only drummers able to solo and keep time with his left foot throughout its entirety.
“4-way independence” 😁
His drumming absolutely astounds me. His independence is awesome. Maybe one day i'll have just as much skill haha
Excellent!!!!! sounds out of this world, Hence the name
AKIRAaaaaaaah! Too dope performance! Check out his fusion group Casiopea if y’all dig this!
He is not a drummer,he is an ALIEN!!!!!
exelente video para quien admira el trabajo de este gran baterista japones adelante akira Daniel Freites de Caracas venezuela.
ありえんうまさ!
How can I get / buy this tune and anyone has the drum parts? Aerobics of Alien is a very piece of art in my opinion
SICK- thumbs to Akiro! and this long ago too, imagein now
Excellent timing and rendition!
Akira is great, as well Marco minnemann.......great independance, crazy indeed
the best of the best !!! excelente!! Mi inspiracion!!
I think this DCI video, out of all the ones that he made, besides Independence, is some of his best playing, THIS GUY IS A BEAST!!!!
...could his snare be any tighter !!!! Awesome.
WOW...fantastic playing
Me encanta, no dejo de ver este video y el de Ishigami.
I've played drums my whole life, I'm pretty good, but when I watch, and listen to Akira I realize that talent just flows through some people like breathing. I'm not one of them.
nice shoes. oh yeah, and amazing playing!!!
it sounds so weird yet so cool
This has got to be one of the greatest songs I've ever heard in my life. What else does Ishiguro Akira do? Does anyone know of any other similar music out there by this guy? A masterpiece!
Judging by image quality this must've been recorded in the mid 80s... still sounds amazing in 2016.
Early 90s....1992 to be exact
You must have missed 'Metamorphosis' then, the album this tune is on, also, this is from a Yamaha Drum Instructional VHS Tape, I still have a copy of it, it is what got me in to drumming, Akira Jimbo is also largely responsible for midi drum triggers in the very beginning, a living percussive legend / innovator.
In Japan, its was in the late 60's !!
Bruh the hella loose clothing should have been a dead giveaway to early 90's haha
Good point @@BenSamaChan
Una completa pistola!!!
Damn ... this looks so effortless... incredible.
Aerobics of Alien says it right because Akira is playing just like one in this one. His mental acuity, mathematically speaking, and physical facility on the kit is no doubt "out-of-this-world; maybe...extraterrestrial.(?)
Troppo Bravo!!!!
Wow. Incredible.
es para mi el mejor baterista del mundo este akira es sorprendente
Damn this guy is so good
obra maestra....
wow..that is tight!!
Cool
Yes , good detail.
nice sound of the ride cymbal
un-believ-able
this is aweeeeeeesome
its like the soundtrack out of terminator 1
@NorrisTheNinja Metamorphosis I think... I have this on VHS somewhere hahaha working at Guitar Center back in the day had its perks.
Great piece of music. Sounds like it should be played over video sequences from Airwolf !
Why does every comment about what Akira plays have to be qualified or supplemented with "of Japan"? Can't we just acknowledge him for what he is: one of the most talented drummers ever, and certainly better than Dave Weckl.
I think he's better than weckl on certain stuff, but not on other stuff. Their different flavored drummers
Dan Froehlich No such thing as a drummer being better than another drummer. My mere opinion.
Because, We, Japanese people are jealous of the large stock of the best musicians, like, USA or UK has...
este es un alien por tocar la bata como la toca!...impresionante
That snare cuts like a sword.
God I love this guy!-Quite simply the most amazing performance I've seen-He does indeed play like an 'Alien' on this one. BooM! this comment should be posted all over the place, well said sir!
Awesome. Sounds like something off the origional Terminater soundtrack.
Awesome!
Impeccably timed - haven't seen better
pffff.... brilliant...
this guy is AMAZING
I love this!
@BlooBeluga lol I doubt if that'll happen since he's busy with other projects....he might do it though if he can program it into his DTX trigger system....
What a beast!
looks like he's havin a blast
This guy is a phenomenal drummer.
A core member of prolific Japanese four-piece jazz funk outfit, Casiopea.
He is using Advanced Polyrhythmics, very skilled drummer.
yeaahhh its not only the drums, its the sythn
This song would be a great challenge for me to play along to.
It's got some Zappa in it ... cool
wow..god of drum
WOW!
i love this song
カシオペア、野呂一生はとんでもない化け物生み出したな。桜井氏然り向谷氏然り。
新しい今井くんも、この域まで登り詰めて来るだろうか?
this would be a great percussion ensemble piece to transcribe.
If people like Dave Weckl or Dennis Chambers respect this amazing drummer, then your opinion is just a fly in the middle of nowhere!!
Muito bom
Viva a Música
Duda
I love this video. But is that a 15 inch snare? It looks huge. Great sound.
Ridiculous talent. He's on a level to himself.
@weedkiller10
Exactly. Which is why Benny Greb is so great.
This is from his first video in the early 90's.
I think it is out of print, it has only been released on VHS so far.
I really like his footwork on the hi-hat. Many drummers now forgot about the basic of hi-hat footwork when they've learn the double pedal footwork.
*That includes me, FYI*
Can anybody tell my what kind of music is this?? is this video game music of 80´s? or a jazz fussion band?? I love this.
The next SEGA Games soundtracks must have Akira Jimbo with Takenobu Mitsuyoshi behind compositions. Both are powerful on it
3:55 😲
@weedkiller10
