    Experienced numb fingertips for the very first time, last time I was shooting - and today you’re already telling me what I can improve. Timing is everything!:D thanks a lot!:)

    Just bought my first 30 pound horsebow without the thumb ring. After about 7 pulls I couldn't feel my thumb for about an hour. I'm glad I saw this video lol

    That's actual super helpful. I'm a longtime recurve archer and never had any issues with numb fingers just a month ago, it started happening on M middle finger and I was super alarmed because it hadn't gone away after like 3 weeks that I even paused training. I started taping my finger with a little patch of gauze and evened out the pulling force between my 3 fingers and that worked fine ever since. however I'll definitely try your technique next training.

    Super simple and informative! Had numb fingers for the first time breaking in a new glove. First time trying ones with a nylon speed tip. Guess I need to keep breaking them in before shooting so I can flex enough to stay out of the joint.

    Short and sweet......and seemingly fundamental, but definitely a tip that can save many people very real discomfort/problems. And keep them shooting instead of healing/resting - the worst thing when all you want (NEED) to do is go shooting.

      @JakeKaminskiArchery  4 роки тому +1

      Good thing is the nerves will heal and it just takes a little bit of time, no harm to keep shooting in the meantime as long as your technique is fixed.

    I tried that method when I first saw your form series (great videos btw), I must be doin something wrong (or the glove I am using does not allow for this method) but I got instant tingling after 2-3 shots ... back to my usual method (the wrong one) and no issues ... quite interesting ...

      I've tried to shoot off the fingertip pad like Jake recommends here and it gave me trigger finger in 2018, even with very thick archery gloves. The doctor had me take large doses of ibuprofen to bring the inflammation down and I couldn't shoot for weeks. All the coaches at my range teach to put the string in the joint (the "wrong" method), so sorry, but I'm not with Jake Kaminski on this one, even if it means I'll never be an Olympic silver medalist.

    How tall should my finger tip calluses get before I grind them down?
    Is there a "rule of thumb"? : )

    • @GiHHlv
      @GiHHlv 9 місяців тому

      you want these calluses to get bigger than your entire hand, that way, you wont feel a thing when drawing!
      like, literally, you wont even feel your hand

  • @adamkilroe9840
    @adamkilroe9840 4 роки тому +1

    Very interesting. I've never hooked as deeply as that, not even close. My middle finger is perpendicular to the riser, indeed finger at 45° (using the fat pad to hold the string) and ring finger at about 60-65°. It's say that 70% of my draw weight is held on my index finger, 20% on my middle finger, and only 10% on my ring finger. I just wish we were allowed to use the Mongolian release off a leather glove, I much prefer it.

    I was taught at a young age to roll the hook so the tension holds the arrow against the rest/plunger. You are rolling it the other way to build up a pad of muscle and skin under the string. My question is, does the way you roll the string make the arrow want to move off the rest or away from the rest at full draw if you didn't have a clicker pushing against the arrow? I am guessing the answer is the arrow stays nicely on the rest, but I thought I would ask in case you could clarify or had some insight to share.

  • @skysurferboy
    @skysurferboy 4 роки тому

    Great video. Just went up in bow poundage and tingling started back up again. I have really thin long fingers. There aint no meat on the bone as it were so rolling fingers in from the tip looks like it could solve my issues as it would force some skin back to pad out the pressure. 36lb is about my limit with the way I was addressing the string before the tingling and numbness arise. I will shoot my next 10 sessions with this technique and see if your advice has solved the problem. Thank you very much Jake Kaminski for all your tips and tutorials!!! 🎯

    JAKE!!! Hi ! 😏 62" Spyder Takedown Recurve I pull around 28lbs (don't know if/when to go up, cuz I have the next set of limbs... Soooo, you are the only one out of ALL the videos I've watched since I started shooting who's style I use.... I probly could've worded that better lol... Anyways, big fan so... I DO this just like your doing, I've done it like this since I 1st saw this video which was a year ago when I started... On my birthday! 😁 But they still hurt. I think I pluck. Cuz I release and their on fire for a min..should I wrap something around them like tape? I read a forum and a guy said that.

  • @Vorador47

    i have the opposite problem, when i shoot off my fingertips, i end up with bad tendonitis in my middle finger, where i have to apply more pressure with my fingers as the poundage ramps up, then the sudden release. but when hooked in the crease i can keep my hand very relaxed as it locks in place like carrying a heavy bag.

    Thank you so much for this tip! That's a really big deal. Do you think one could get away with eventually migrating to no tab using this technique? I haven't wanted to mess with the chances of injury but love the idea of a more direct string contact.

    • @InFerrumVeritas
      @InFerrumVeritas 3 роки тому

      No. Tabs primarily provide protection against friction. The padding is almost incidental (although appreciated).

    Dang!! End of my backyard Agincourt season today as the English Autumn kicks in with a vengeance, and here I am being told (by a dam' Olympian, no less!!) that the fat part of the fingertip - like I was using when I caught the archery bug as a total noob at a holiday resort 3 Summers ago - is actually A-OK. Now I have to wait until Spring to start un-learning even more stuff !! Still - watching your battle with the barebow tune is reassuring. I ain't the only one out there un-learning stuff that doesn't actually work :-)

    Thanks for the tip. Glad I found your channel. I'm new to archery so I think I'm going to go with a glove for now. Does this still apply? Noted Russell's comment below about 1mm of padding for every 10 pounds of pull weight. Looking forward to more videos.

  • @TheRussell129
    @TheRussell129 4 роки тому +1

    I had an issue with numb fingers that I solved by increasing the thickness of my tab ... Was reading that you should have 1mm thickness per 10lb draw

  • @arhael3594
    @arhael3594 Рік тому +1

    Good technique. But it may have a different side effect. This way you have more strain on your finger tendons, which can lead to tendonitis. So adequate rest time may need to be required to develop those tendons.
