Malice is a nice place to relax. For example assassination missions can easily be finished in 10-15 minutes, while Damnation HI could take 50 or more if you'll catch infinite horde bug.

Funnily enough, I often find more often than not, Damnation is more relaxing because I don't have juggle or pick up the slack of my teammates as much. Literally just came out of a Malice mission and I had to save at any given time 2 of my teammates... I guess that's what the video is for!

      @@rykenxiv Great video.
I agree much of the time playing damnation is somehow easier/less painful because generally everyone knows what to do and how to do it so its just a question of doing it but on malice (and heresy more so) it can require a lot of saving people from situations they shouldn't be in. to put it fairly as I was very much in that camp when I first played.
One sugestion for players wishing to improve in addition to this excellent list would be to experiment with another playstlye. I play veteran and zealot so learnt close and near combat fairly well but it wasn't until I played Psyker a few things really clicked about placement, defence and situational awareness because a psyker without those is waiting for respawn.

honestly I find most damnations take closer to half an hour, i've never been stuck in an infinite horde ever but i'm also very used to tide games and came from way too much time playing cata so i find moving through the "infinite hordes" (they aren't infinite they just pull ambient spawns and if you clear them too slow you'll start to overlap events) to be perfectly doable. I think more players need to practice more on heresy first

@@rykenxiv Damnation pugs are way worse than Malice pugs. Malice pugs are usually level 30 people farming contracts missions ASAP because you can complete an assassination mission in 7-8 minutes. It's people way over qualified and geared to even by on those missions. Damnation pugs are full of people biting off more than they can chew. At least on Malice you can leave someone to run off on their own and expect them to actually come back alive despite fighting off several specialists. On Damnation if someone wonders off, they're not coming back.
I play Malice when i'm experimenting with off meta builds to see if i'd enjoy them, then take them into Damnation when i'm confident with them. Or as i mentioned earlier, i'm speed running some missions for my weekly contracts to get the bonus for completing all of them.

@@wingnutmcmoomoo494 "infinite horde" is what I call it and it isn't pulling random mob groups - it actually spawn new mobs again and again. Happened 2 times with me after interrogation event. For the love of god, tag things. It makes it so much easier for the ranged players to see them when they're highlighted, and you can even use tagging to spot things like ragers and shotgunners inside a large group. Been through so many missions where i was the only one tagging.

Absolutely agree! Its enough that enemies will try and force you out of position, but to do it to yourself just makes the mission that much harder. Malice is my safe space for fun gameplay. I don't have to confront my lack of skill whilst also guaranteeing a map clear that isn't a complete walkover. Had the same thing in Vermintide 2 on Champion. Harder difficulties require you to be sweating hard all the time, use boring limited meta weapons and build, stick to teammates like scared children unable to explore, forced to communicate or fail, feels like I'm just too old to be fast enough dodging all the time or care enough for the minor reward increase.

This lets you be far more liberal with you application of the quite high damage the rev puts out without taking hits in return (and apply bloodletting bleed stacks), especially on the evicerator.

I actually had most of these problems not too long ago. Some might still be there to a small degree, but I have moved up the difficulty ladder. Just yesterday, I played 8 games on Heresy with my Ogryn, and beat every single mission. Me and my roommate, we're now playing Damnation pretty often, and I'd say we're probably around a 50-60% success rate on Damnation right now (when we've got all human players, it would be less with us two and two bots), with quite a few losses coming right near the end of the mission.
I think what would be beneficial for some people who are stuck at malice, as well, is to play different classes. I started with Veteran, and I tended to just blast people all the time, and my melee skills sucked. Then I moved to Zealot, and improved my melee skills there, but eventually quit playing that class because I tended to just burn heretics the whole time, without any sense of how it affected the rest of my team.
After that, I went back to the Veteran, and was a better overall player, but definitely wasn't all there for Damnation. So then I created an Ogryn, and I feel like playing with the Ogryn has substantially raised my skill level. I've been thinking about going back to my Veteran to see how I can play with him now, but I'm actually having a lot of fun learning with my Ogryn.
I've found that certain classes, and certain builds, can lead to bad habits as well. With my veteran, my melee skills sucked. With my Zealot, I just used the flamethrower non-stop, and my teammates would often get choked that I kept tanking their frame rate. And when I tried using a full bleed build on my Ogryn, I got so focused on heavy swings with my power maul, that I would end up getting shot and knocked down, or I didn't clear enemies for my team with the light attack (and that would often get me knocked down as well), and I'd even wander off on my own sometimes to go club guys with a heavy swing, and end up getting knocked down.
But after I changed up my Ogryn build, Heresy seems quite easy these days. And by going with the shield, and sticking in a coherency on Damnation, I'm starting to be quite successful on Damnation, with a class that most people seem to feel is the most difficult to use on Damnation.

    • @rykenxiv

I think a good way to go about determining if you're ready to go up a difficulty is if you can make it through a map consistently without taking damage. Malice threat is also the cap for being able to rely on just your skill in playing the game alone. Heresy and above forces you to start paying attention to your build/weapon perks and blessings.
I played mostly malice for quite a while, got to where I wouldn't take damage no matter what weapon/perks/blessings I was running, but breaking out of malice into heresy and damnation required dedicated thought into what my build was. The meta game can be complicated with the time/effort/praying to RNG Jesus required to get decent weapons, but once you've got something that can output enough damage to deal with the higher difficulties, it's just a matter of applying the lessons learned in malice until you can once again make it through a map without taking damage.
I run mostly damnation now, on the verge of getting into auric. Heresy is my "I don't want to work for it" mode now, even if my team is trash I'm fine. I'm starting to get good enough to do that in damnation now, and as soon I get to that same level of consistency, I'll move up to Auric.

Everything from hound spawn, horde incoming, the ticking of a flamer or poxburster, the scream of a mutant, the voicelines of a bomber. All of these give you directional cues where these specialists are coming from to give you an advantage before they start denying your team of advantages

something that's related to number 1, that I've been recently weaving into my playstyle making the hop from heresy to damnation is dodging while shooting. I say this cause the entry kinda focuses on the melee aspect of the game, while in Heresy and Damnation, its the ranged enemies that get you. I think it was you who I learned how dodging works in the first place so I won't go in depth, but for whoever else reads this. Dodging makes enemies not target you for a short amount of time, this works with ranged enemies too, it works wonders for not getting shot.
Also this is another reason why Camo Expert on the Vet sucks, like really sucks.

The biggest advice for me in the video is to understand what is your job, and what is the job of others.
It's permissive in malice to rush into a pack I already controlled with my flame thrower, but in higher difficulty, it's a big loss of ammo for me, ammo I don't have anymore to cover something else.
Another exemple would be a veteran that goes melee while me and me and the ogryn have both big crowd control builds, instead of killing elites like snipers that make us powerless, letting them for the end. I lost so many mission only to long ranged elites not taking care of :'(

Along with the tip of weaving in blocks, dodges and pushes…
I’ve noticed some players in Heresy who almost only fight with their ranged weapon even with hordes all around of them. They take fights 90% ranged 10% melee. This being sharpshooters trying to face tank hordes with covering fire on but they’re not generating toughness to do it, psykers with purgatus and shock staves failing to keep enemies away from them and not switching weapons, and preachers with their flamer getting stunned out of animations and the fire types and not rotating enough to stun more things, getting surrounded and not making their own space for safety first with melee or dodging.
And I mean this is the entire mission like this.
To me it looks like theyve either heard these weapons and strategies are “OP… will carry” but don’t realize when it’s not working, or that they worked on lower diff but aren’t adapting.
It’s interesting to see a sharpshooter have 10 poxwalkers on them and keep their gun out losing all their health before the first horde because they didn’t dodge or put their gun away.

    • @ordwinrahl6655
      @ordwinrahl6655 Рік тому +1

One small thing about Ranged into Melee, especially on Sharpshooter. You can get away with this if you are using a build which generates more toughness to allies on ranged kills and you have a high damage rapid fire weapon like the bolter or las pistol (although using the Bolter to clear trash is a bad habit). I typically run that build so that I can support frontliners from any distance which keeps me out of coherency most of the match but I make up for it with overwatch coverage and rapid fire high precision shots to cover the backs of my allies.
It's all about strategy and even without comms (since I am deaf), never had an issue with full randoms on all difficulties. Normally where things fall apart is on the extra modifiers such as the hound packs since I can't hear when they spawn and if no one types it, I only know they've spawned once they're on my screen.
Ultimately, Dark Tide needs more deaf assistance. Especially since so much of the game is audio based and those who are hard of hearing (veterans and those with normal disabilities) or outright deaf are playing with a massive disadvantage. It's not like Destiny where your situational awareness alone is enough to compensate, the fact there's no indication that an enemy has spawned for a deaf person is a huge factor and there's a surprising amount of the games population who would benefit from deaf assistance.

    • @rykenxiv
      @rykenxiv  Рік тому +1

Yes! I usually do a good job of keeping things off my team - but sometimes (especially on Malice) I observe how they play and let a single stray poxwalker get near them to see if they react and... it's like they aren't aware that they are getting stabbed from behind.. One of the problems of being a good teammate and being on overwatch for your team is you sometimes forgive their mistakes by being proficient at your job.. which reinforces bad habits as well..

@@ordwinrahl6655 That sharpshooter build is great when used correctly. Throw on Confirmed Kill, Unwavering Focus and Counterfire and you can just stand front line shooting and not worry as long as you're actually killing specials/elites. Unwavering Focus does, but isnt supposed to, seemingly reduces damage done to toughness you take from melee as well as ranged.
Also do you mean the feat "Covering Fire"? As far as Ive tried in the past I couldnt tell if it was actually working for either myself or even my teamates. I'd love to use it more if it is actually functional.
I have to sympathize with what you mean as your experience being a deaf player. A lot of Darktide is sound cues. I have some hearing damage from range days back in my short time in the Army-Reserves from poorly using earplugs or the lack thereof using any or whatever. Sometimes I miss the sounds too when things get really crazy. Im sure for someone who misses them more or simply cant hear them this game can be very tough.
The sound cues for specials/elites, sound cues for when an enemy is about to hit you out of view would be entirely useless. Maybe if they implemented some kind feature that communicated "someone is going to hit you out of view" in a visual way that could help. And maybe for special/elite/monster spawns they could put an enemy icon in the top corner near the kill feed to let you know "Trapper spawned, maybe look behind you".
I dont think any of this would infringe on the difficulty of the game, it'd just help players with hearing difficulties like you say have a fairer time playing.

Just had a match the other day doing quick runs on malice for a weekly, a player with 5 wounds full die at least twice during the same event. I couldn’t even protect them because every couple enemies they’d walk them across the arena. I just really hope they’re having fun more than anything

@@Heavynaut Yes, Covering Fire to my knowledge does not work on yourself, only allies. Which makes it great Synergy in hordes with say the Auto Pistol or full auto patterns of the Autogun (less so with the assault las since lasguns have lower bonuses to Pox Walkers in comparison).
The range for it is kinda iffy though, because an enemy can be within striking range but because they're swinging from out of range and will land in range at the end of their charged up attack, they don't count as being in "melee" range of the player. From what I have seen, it seems to be based on the target players own attack range. So if they have a naturally larger "aura" of melee strike distance, they benefit more whereas if you take say a combat knife with the shortest engagement range, it might seem like it never works.
It's not something I have been able to readily test but it does work, just not consistently. I find that the best benefit is to chainsword and powersword allies since they tend to walk directly on top of enemies and typically the Toughness you give them from snagging even 1 or 2 enemies gives them more than they would get for normal kills.
Where the build backfires is if you kill Elites and the ally is a Veteran with the Confirmed Kill (+50% Toughness on Elite kill, additional Toughness over time) since they actually get far more for those kills and as a person who has done a lot of melee only Veteran gameplay, it really hurts if an ally steals that kill from you because it's the greatest source of Toughness regeneration (100 base Toughness and an additional 100 over time if you have no Toughness bonuses vs say the 25-50 everyone else gets for killing the Elite).
I think CoD does it well on indicators. You get small arrows or radial wheel markers on your screen which points to enemies. In Cold War Zombies, there's a perk from a previous title which gives you a little arrow when an enemy is behind you but the indicator shows up when they are in attack range so you need to have fast reactions and can, on lower waves, typically respond before the hit. I typically play Knife only up to Wave 50 in Zombies and never had an issue with surviving even before that perk but it's an added bonus if you are using heavy arms like Sniper Rifles.
They also have actual subtitles for all enemies in CoD Zombies. So you can tell what the enemy is at ranged which helps. Because it's PvE and not PvP, there's no "extra edge" for the team to get over the opposition in comparison to headsets tweaked to zero in on the important audios with third party applications. The fact Darktide doesn't have any of this just speaks to it not being a consideration since to my knowledge, none of the enemies have a single subtitle indicator. There's not even one for explosions in the distance or barrels.

Class Roles was something I never understood. Some classes do better than others in some cases but in a recent Heresy mission I questioned it.
Long story short 2 Psykers couldn't take out a sniper that killed them both. The Vet built for melee died fighting to res the Psykers but got overwhelmed while the 4th was an Ogryn nowhere near the team fighting a spawn point during an objective. A Psyker blamed the Vet and claimed their only role was to kill Specials.
This scenario was posted on a forum and in this situation most of the points made proved that the group wasn't ready to get out of Malice. The thing that could have saved the run was TAGGING the sniper. Even if downed, you can still tag enemies. Something I didn't even know after several Heresy missions. I've been maining a Zealot with an Eviscerator but it's been entirely too easy to just mindlessly swing away at hordes because I'd cut everything down while constantly topping off my toughness. I'm doing fine in Malice and I'm in no rush to leave that difficulty, I just don't want to ingrain that playstyle to the point that I have to unlearn it.
Still though, I do pretty well for a newbie on malice. The #1 thing that gets me killed is actually my team mates trying to help me take down a horde. They'll kill stuff that I was relying on to replenish my toughness instead of taking out the stuff shooting at me, so then that stuff shoots at me when my toughness is low.

Learning maps felt easier when you always had access to pick any map, at any difficulty. One year post launch and this still isn't an option for Darktide.
But when chatting with a friend who feels more comfortable in Darktide than in Vermintide the other night, I do feel Vermintide makes block pushing more mandatory. But it was also easier to "max" block efficiency and bonus stamina there.
Darktide even after the crafting revamp still feels punitivly costly to get a single item with all desirable stats and blessings, never mind having those blessing at tier 4.

I totally agree with impatience (Zealots) and lack of situational awareness. I main veteran as a plasma gunner, and usually have to pop off shots to take out high value targets that are wrecking the team, but said teammates always rush off, leaving me exposed to that one or two swings that can be a make or break.
Another issue i have is seeing players clear out every last mob in an area before moving on. On higher difficulties, the name of the game is to punch through as a team; them doing so usually ends up in them being left behind as the team pushes.

FOV of this game is terrible by default an deven when you widen it its still too narrow so lots of enemies can just "SPAWN" behind team mates cos you can't see em. I normally play on 110FOV in most games but it doens't go that high in Darktide.

    I gotta say
Playing haz 3/Malice is like playing Overkill in Payday 2 as opposed to Heresy+/Mayhem+. As long as you're competent and the team's competent, you can generally just dick around in haz 3 and still come out handily victorious.
Crank it up just one tick though and it's one hell of a step in difficulty.

There are so many problems with the game, I can't get out of doing the second difficulty. For one server is so laggy and the software sudden switches graphics card. Sudden FPS drops.

My Psyker and Ogryn is now comfort for Heresy normal run. However, my Veteran sometimes feel hard on Heresy normal run. And finally, I don't feel like to go Heresy with my Zealot. My Zealot is having trouble with Heresy.
In my experience, Zealot is even worse than Psyker with Illisi Force Sword in melee.

Just looking for a tip here as I play a Vet with shredder nades and voice of command, am I right to use my skill even if it can be used as a fast team resurrect when we got engaged on by a horde and we are getting shot at from all the possible direction to charge the toughness back for the team and no waiting for some one to fall to save HP overall, or should I just wait and save it as a clutch tool when 1 or 2 team mates fall. (and we dont have a zealot with the same skill)
Also I opted for the shredder nades as most of the randoms will always have eg. kraks, rocks and other tools to 1 shot beefy targets and from my point of view it is a waste to use 2 or more finite stuff to kill 1 target, so its more like CC

I actually find Heresy easier to play on than Malice just because the people who play it are more seasoned players, and understand how quick things go south when people screw around (so less of people running off or lagging behind).
Malice is often full of people trying to rush, off exploring on their own, or people punching above their weight. I have more issues failing my Malice missions than I do on Heresy.

Malice is the highest difficulty that will let you play with whatever weapons you want how you want. unfortunately 4 and 5 exclude a lot of weapons and feats.

For me, I bring a test build into Heresy because that's where its effectiveness will truly be tested. I feel you can get away with practically anything on Malice since the punishment is much lower

Staying in coherency most of the time, knowing your role, and situational awareness are three huge things that have little to do with controlling your operative. Anyone can do this.

I had a lobby yesterday on malice with a vet, psy and ogryn who all went melee only and left me (zealot) with a shotgun as the teams only ranged offense it was so dumb I was doing long range single shots non stop just to stay alive

My Psyker is max height - though I would say unless they fix the hitbox for height differences, go for being short - being too tall makes you still able to get shot from behind cover sometimes!

the retreat one is kinda not I feel heroic so I will go forward its more like often you have to jump down or go trough a door that is one way so you cant go back and it got ingrained into my head that going back is usually not an option. Obviously its not true some maps can have too many one way passages but for most part you can walk a decent amount back few zones which means you can retreat easily and far but I tend to forget because of the jumps.

I usually just play with friends, and we don't usually split up much or rush ahead. We gather in voice chat for an activity, that activity happens to be Darktide, it would be silly to split up if you're here for friend time. Our missions usually take around 26 minutes. We try to find every scripture, every plasteel, usually ignore grimoirs because ew.
The other day one of us had to go in 20 minutes and said we could play one more if we hurried. I yelled "speedrun strats!" and queued up a mission which everyone immediately clicked yes on without reading it. We all rushed through, grabbed no scriptures and only conveniently close crafting supplies, never seen us so efficient. It was great fun. We easily finished it with a time of 15 minutes and it was a great game to end the night on.

The thing is there’s such a huge jump from haz 3 to haz 4. It’s the worst jump in the game. Once I got over that hump I was playing auric in a month. 3 you hardly see and crush or bulwark. In 4 they come in hordes. It really kinda sux. And tbh I still find myself struggling on an haz 4 high intensity.

I don’t see masterclass video for psyker, how do you save someone through a wall?

    • @rykenxiv
      @rykenxiv  Рік тому +1

Its part of my Psykinetic's Wrath video! The base Psyker Combat ability and the upgraded Venting Shriek is able to penetrate through terrain and up to 30m in a cone. This means you can knock someone who has been pounced by a poxhound even if you can't see them (as long as you are within 30m)!

6:38 This happens every game. I hate seeing Veterans blasting hordes with their guns and getting angry that you won't share every piece of ammo on the map. USE YOUR MELEE MORE.
Conserve ammo for more urgent targets.
