This might be as good as it gets for a straight piped low compression 1.5L SOHC engine. The rasp sounds just right in this setup. Must have had a good resonator or two.
Hey honestly I agree, for me I just moved everything back to stock because I had strange ticking noise coming from the engine & when I took it to Acura they wouldn't look at it because of the aftermarket parts, so now that it's back to stock they told me I need a whole new engine because the crankshaft went, so all those modifications & my need to go fast & hear that sound wasn't worth it, now I have to wait 3-8 weeks because it's coming from Japan & everything is on backorder
@@djsthemetereman Sounds like you got screwed over. Never take your car to a dealership unless its under warranty. Acura Technicians typically get paid better than regular mechanics. Hondas are made for normal people to work on, just do research then DIY, I'm serious though, there's a wealth of resources to guide you through any kind of repair these days. Ticking sounds pretty much never mean engine rebuild. If the crank was bad you'd hear knocking which is very distinct from ticking. If you live in the US there's so many D series engine swaps in open market. In my area in the PNW you can find D15B7 longblocks locally for $250-350. I bet you're paying $250 for shipping alone lol
@@elliswilliams1050 My car was under warranty & they paid all $8800 for engine & shipping I didn't pay a dime, but I no longer have this car I have the 21 TLX Type-s so now this car is fast enough for me but I'll be putting on a full bolt on aftermarket exhaust which thankfully will require no cutting of my mufflers like my previous car, but that's the only mod I will do
@@djsthemetereman Thank God. I was very worried that you were taken advantage of, it's happened to me in the past which is why I've taught myself how to be a Honda technician and why I was pretty sensitive in hearing your story. $8800 is an amazing figure. You must have not had an older 90s honda like me ;) I'm glad those technicians are getting paid. 2021 TLX Type S is a pretty damn nice luxury car, top trim has a Rear biased awd system, 10 speed automatic, and 360hp turbo v6, this would be a great daily to an older tuner Honda. That car should have amazing speed, but yeah I wouldn't bother tuning such a new car. If you go with bigger diameter exhaust pipping you might be able to get some more top end power even without a tune, if not you'll have greater throttle response at least since turbos spool faster when there's less restriction. Bigger engines and any sized engine with turbo love low restrictive exhausts. But you could also keep your stock piping and buy some very low restrictive straight through design universal mufflers and weld them yourself or pay someone. That's what I'm doing. I rather buy a $500 muffler than buy a $500 kit, you get more quality out of the former.
Yeah to each his own personaly I like a deeper more rich tone, I have an 18 tlx aspect & tried the straight pipe but it sounded out of control loud, & seemed more sluggish but now I have a Flowmaster delta race muffler in my mid, also muffler & resonator delete & it's the perfect sound, I've even been told it sounds just as good as a charger, but I don't knock this guy do your thing.
if you still have the car and want to make it quicker for cheap, i had a similar issue with my car d13b2, the reason that it lacked power was poor fueling and small valves in the head, i put bike carburettors on it but it made little difference until i bought a cheap 1.6 rover head (rovers had d16 engines) and the power jumped up massively, so my reccomendation would be carbs/fuel injection and a bigger head. do some research into the size of your valves in your head because if they are same as the other 1.5/1.6s go for fueling upgrade and leave the head.
