I've gotten some questions about this so wanted to mention: While this video is focused on soul drop recommendations, the Rare Ring DOES WORK for items! It doubles the chance of both Common and Rare item drops.
@@metalmonster9536 yup! and in dos you can't take it with you into new game plus. they must have realized that aspect sucked, so after dos they let you keep its equivelents in por and ooe into new game plus. my guess is it's because it's a movement assist tool?
Just recently beat Dawn of Sorrow and I'm so irritated that upgrading to death's scythe, valmanway, and balmung lock you out of getting the chaos ring. To anyone reading this, if you're gunning for the chaos ring, do not use death, abaddon or gergoth's souls for these weapons until after you've claimed the ring. If you want a maxed out weapon, just take the katana path, it doesn't require any boss souls.
I'm also irritated by this and the fact that movement souls like Black Panther don't carry over to NG+. BP is only in the final area, AFAIK. NG+ would have been fun to speed through with BP and Valmanway, in order to get those boss souls again and get the Chaos Ring.
By the time you have all the souls to get the chaos ring, you won't need something as powerful as Death or Abaddon so it's not a huge loss to synthesize those weapons after picking up the ring.
You know what? I'm really glad bloodstained gave us the power to upgrade yellow souls into grey souls. Because it deals with my worries about missing out on something and instead just gives me a "Get EVERYTHING" fixation. Which I already have, so no big deal.
Fun fact: Mandragora is not only powerful due to its ATK, but also because it deals stab and cut damage. If the target has a weakness against two physical types, they'll take 50% more damage than usual. There aren't many souls with two damage types in DoS.
Worth noting that Aguni and Abaddon are obtained from bosses, and are excellent red souls for the reaminder of the game. You can pretty much just use Axe Armor up until you beat Aguni, then use these two as your main red souls for the rest of the game. Malacoda is still better than Abaddon overall. The Succubus red soul enables the Succubus glitch, as well as some other strange shenanigans. After you've beaten the game, and you're ready to really mess around, this is a priority. Look up the Succubus glitch if you're curious; this post is long enough already. Most blue and yellow souls are crap, but there are a few more exceptions. Boomerang Thrower is a yellow soul which makes throwing weapons better: boomerangs, and more importantly throwing sickles. No grinding required for the weapons, you can just buy them. It increases the attack power, throwing speed, the number of projectiles on-screen, AND the ability to multi-hit. While these aren't end-game weapons, they are amazing pretty much up until you face Death (by which point, you've unlocked the true ending and are heading into the final area). There are a lot of horizontally-wide enemies (including the harder bosses like Gergoth and Aguni), who get hit multiple times by a single throw, and you can generally use these without exposing yourself to any danger. Without the Boomerang Thrower soul, these weapons are pretty much useless, but with it, they are insane for travelling through the castle, and beating most bosses. Throwing Sickle trivializes Puppet Master, Gergoth, and Bat Company, for instance. Alura Une is secretly the most powerful Int-based attack in the game. With the Skeleton Farmer yellow soul, its attack power is greatly increased (not attack speed though). By using the touch screen on the DS, you can make Alura Une attack more frequently, and precisely attack the enemy you want it to kill. Since it drains MP over time, you can get a lot of damage for a very low MP cost, one-shotting most enemies in the game, and obliterating bosses. You have to stand still while using it, so on a first playthrough, not really a good choice against most bosses, since you haven't learned their attack patterns yet. The touch screen can be replicated through a couple of other methods on modern consoles (there's a touch-pad on the PS5 controller, in handheld mode the Switch is a touch screen, and you can also use the right-stick). For boss-rushes, if you want to do an Int-based strat instead of Str-based, you probably want to use Alura Une as your blue soul. You can power up Alura Une by getting multiple copies of the soul, but even just one is incredibly powerful, and a legitimate alternative to using Devil. As far as weapons (since most good weapons aren't found throughout the castle), the katanas are pretty much the best for endgame. They're not the only great weapons to choose, though. Cinquedia can be bought from Hammer, has an incredibly useful special attack, and does fast hits, which combos excellently with Devil. The special attack is also useful when trying to do the Succubus glitch. You can also use this to press switches on the other side of walls, letting you get to areas sooner than intended. It's probably a glitch, but no skill is really required; execution is trivial. While the Valmanway is treated by the game as the ultimate longsword, the Kaladbolg (one tier below) is arguably much better. Depending on your Str stat, it can be more powerful by doing more damage in a single hit, rather than the Valmanway's multihits. More importantly, it provides a +8 Int boost, which is very useful if you're doing a boss rush. All of the longswords beyond the Fragarach (which you can find in a hidden room) are a big pain to grind for though. Some of them have neat designs and effects, and are worth messing around with at least once. If you get it early enough, the Mystletain is good for most of the game, being light element, which SO many enemies are weak to. Milican's Sword is arguably better against generic enemies, since it can petrify them in a single swing. Though, you had to obtain the Catoblopas soul anyways, and it does the same thing while letting you wield a stronger weapon at the same time. The Ice Brand deals extra damage to Aguni, making it one of your best attacks there (you don't have any useful souls to do ice damage). Jupiter already mentioned the Dainslef, being a good greatsword with useful stat boosts (+6 Int, while being much easier to obtain than Kaladbolg). If you want to fully upgrade the greatsword (which requires some very rare souls), you do get the Claimh Solais, which is a light element weapon, doing bonus damage against almost every boss in the game (including the final boss), and most generic enemies. It also has a fun special attack. The rapiers are all terrible, and shouldn't be used. If you want to use a chain sword, the ones in Aria of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin are much more fun. The lances are good early game weapons, but I wouldn't be using them by the time you're able to buy the Masamune. You can grind to get the Halberd and Lance pretty easily. Worth noting that the Gugner shoots an electric laser beam as its special attack; not actually useful, but the coolest one in the game. Other than the Bhuj already mentioned by Jupiter, none of the other axes are really worth using. The Death Scythe can be used for some silly boss-rush strats, like one-shotting the first couple of bosses with its special attack. Faster attacking weapons are otherwise better. The mace is probably the best hammer weapon, because you get it early enough for it to be useful. There is a room where you can get a bunch of potions by hitting a thing with the progressively stronger hammers, but you can just buy potions anyways. You also have to give up the Death soul to get his scythe, and it's one of the few good blue souls in the game. When upgrading the katanas, the rarest soul required would be the Barbariccia soul. Once you've gotten that, the others are much less tedious to obtain. The Muramasa is insane, and the best weapon overall for endgame or a Str-build in the boss rush. It also inflicts curse status on many generic enemies, slowing them down and causing them to take extra damage. The knuckles all hit really fast, and when combined with Devil, are excellent main weapons. Jupiter already mentioned Whip Knuckle; it having extra reach makes it far more convenient when dealing with the generic enemies while travelling through the castle. The Mach Punch and Kaiser Knuckle are easy to obtain as well; the Kaiser Knuckle does multihits on every button press, making it go even crazier with Devil. You can reasonably obtain these before Gergoth, and with Devil they're good for the remainder of the game. The guns you can find/buy are pretty terrible, but there are niche uses, as shown in the video already. Not good as a main weapon, and they don't get a boost from using Devil. If you've already beaten the game, then you've unlocked the boss rush. Even without endgame equipment, you can beat it quickly using the Succubus glitch, obtaining the rewards for that file. The Terror Bear does like 10 hits with a single swing; combine with Devil and backdash cancelling, this can be much more convenient then forging a weapon for endgame. The Nunchakus are fun to use, since you can attack while moving, and they hit pretty quickly, combining well with Devil. I'd consider them an equivalent to the Kaiser Knuckles; fewer hits, but more convenient. If you want a slightly worse version of the Valmanway, you can use these. I don't like the RPG; it hits hard, but it's slow, and I'd rather use throwing weapons with Boomerang Thrower when exploring the castle. It once was used in speedruns, before runners understood how good Malacoda was, or just using any katana with Devil.
Devil is the kind of soul that is just that good. It gives you such a large amount of damage that even a newbie casual can break the game open with it as long as they're stocked up on potions and mind ups
@@IcyTaco776 I'd argue on a *first playthrough* you want to go for survivability and not dps. If you didn't feel grinding the needed souls for the weapon upgrade paths, heeling is all you have at the end game. And you don't want to waste potions to counter the devil-drain and instead focus on learning&dodging the enemy attack patterns with the potion-use only on occasion.
@@ericschuster2680 That is fair. I think some players would find using devil easier and some would find it harder. I mean I know for sure I didn't need devil to finish my first playthrough years ago.
This is my favorite DS Castlevania game (though all 3 are great). However, at this point, I play a romhack called "Definitive Edition". What it does is it: 1. Removes any and all need to use the touch screen (no seals, and breaking ice blocks can be done with melee attacks); 2. Fixes the luck scaling bug so that the luck formula ends up much as it was in Aria; and 3. Gergoth, Death, and Abaddon souls are made available from little containers right before each of their fights...(none of these souls are good for their respective boss fights anyway) so that you can both have their souls for use/chaos ring and forge the weapons that use these souls in your playthrough without requiring NG+. It also changes the in-game art of the portraits to be mostly the ones drawn by Ayami Kojima, though this is a purely aesthetic change.
Luck also barely does anything in Aria, it took until PoR and OoE for it to be substantial, so it's even better than in there, the rest of what you said is true though, DE is great.
It makes the game somewhat ok. Definite Edition fixes some of the more problematic issues but the game is still a grade A snooze fest. Boring enemies, boring bosses, boring aesthetics, trashy mechanics, a boring story and boring characters.
My big scam is always to buy a bunch of Brass Knuckles and farm Zombie to synthesize them into Cestus and sell for a profit, since you can farm Zombie five at a time nearby the shop. Less traveling than going out for Slaughterer, probably increases to profit per minute overall.
I watched your Mijölnir Speedrun a few days back and noticed that they "fixed" the seesaw "puzzle" when hitting it with the lightbulb. Still feels weird that they didnt fix luck for Dawn in the collection....
I think they didn't fix luck because its technically not broken. It works, its just very minimal effect, so they'd actually have to buff it if they wanted to do something with it.
the only explanation I can think of, is someone at Konami wants to teach players that luck doesn't exist and it's all in your head. Ironic, given Konami stopped making games in order to get that gambling money.
This video couldn't have come at a better time. I'm about halfway through my first run and I feel like my power level has begun to plateu. I did make a point to get my axe armor to max level first thing since it's been so useful. I had a feeling my luck boosting gear wasn't doing anything 😅 THANK U JUPITER
Don't worry I went to work immediately farming zombie souls to turn brass knuckles into cestuses to then resell to hammer so to then buy the soul eater ring
Very thorough. I knew a few of these but learned quite a bit. Personally I like grabbing Rune Ring and grind Treant ASAP though I think the Treant farm can be quite tedious.
Legit streamed this on the Dominus collection trying to rush the achievements and had a hard time lol I usually love to grind in any game, but I realized in DoS you need to actively seek for the "good stuff" if you plan to finish it quickly (or just practice speedruns haha). Anyway great video as usual.
Thank you so much for this guide it was really helpful! I'm super close to the ending of dawn of sorrow and I'm trying to get EVERY single soul in the game along with the strongest weapons
I've been binging your videos for the past week & they've been fantastic! As a Castlevania fan since 1988 (yup, I'm old 🤦♂️), your killing it my man. Keep up the great content ✌️
I've been binging a lot of Castlevania contents recently and everytime im itching to replay them the farming needed for these games was what discouraged me lol. Not like needed in the sense of i need it to beat the game but say in Potrait of Ruins the main reason i want to replay the game was to play around with Heaven Sword and i need to farm them before that lol The footage showcasing Malacoda is wild
When I played casually, I got the Bhuj and used it basically the entire game lol. Got Axe Armor to a pretty high level and used that most of the game too. Then obv Golem for the STR. I found your channel immediately after I finished the game and UA-cam recommended me the weapon tier list video. Good times
what's worth farming will depend on what type of players If you're new, and just want to have fun: - Axe Armor: go in arch, pierce target, deal chip damage - Mandragora: quick explosion in large radius that deal so much damage in one-shot. Despite they nerfed it (it was holy element, and holy is the best element in the game), it's still very useful, and may carry first-timer through out the whole game. Also, it can kill Flying Humanoid, one of the hidden enemies right before you enter Za Warudo's boss room. - Killer Clown: The very few bullet-soul type that shot in straight line. The other I knew is Amalaric Sniper, can pierce target, but it has long wait time, and Ripper, that only appeared in late game. - Erinys: deal holy dmg within huge range, and holy is the best element in the game. - Succubus: heal faster. - Golem (the higher, the better): to raise your weapon dmg. - Lilith (the higher, the better): to raise your soul dmg. If you're aiming to get Chaos Ring, aka the most broken gear in the whole series: - Bat (max level asap): they will track enemies and kill them, so you can just pop it up to kill Medusa Head without even doing anything - Buer: alternative to Bat - Imp: useful to kill Iron Golem, who has 15 MP instead of 50 HP - Dead Pirate: extremely useful to kill Iron Golem, with this, you can deal 2 dmg per hit instead of 1 on the back. (still don't know why this soul doesn't work on Final Guard) - Puppet Master (may need Skeleton Ape): Use this to safely get into Iron Golem's back, as they can't turn around. - Waiter Skeleton: required to lure Yeti, which appeared at the first area of the game. - Golem and Lilith at higher level are also recommended to kill Final Guard asap, especially Devil (my mistake, you only need 1 Devil soul), hope you have enough potions to fight back its side effect. I use Aguni and Lilith to kill it within 3 casts. I know better options exist, so don't attack me for using stupid combo. - Also, as other stated, do not, I repeat, DO NOT, infuse Gergoth, Death, or Abaddon to your weapons before getting Chaos Ring. Plus, Claimh Solais, Death's Scythe, and Valmanway aren't god-tier, and they nerfed Claimh Solais to the stratosphere. - Skeleton Ape: there's an area at Subterranean Hell that required using Pupper Master to pass through, but with further distance, and that's where Skeleton Ape is essential to support it. Going through it will lead you to more areas in Wizardry Lab, that Homunculus only occupied there, and nowhere else. I don't know much about speedrunning, so I can't comment here. I know I could be wrong here and there, so let me know if I do, just don't be an a$$hole about it.
Always preferred going through first half of the game with Axe Armor till getting stuff like Erinys and Malacoda. Attacking far above also helps for breaking specific ceilings(e.g. foie gras room) too.
This reminds of my first Dawn playthrough 18 years ago. I was so excited to see an Axe armor with Giant Axe...Then immediately dissapointed by looking at its soul rarity and the soul level *1/9* of _despair._
@@whiten00b Dawn in a nutshell. The soul of fkn Yeti, THE actual cryptid of legend ? snowbol. The soul of cleaning lady ? Steals HP haha. Also negates every enemy projectile.
@@HoseB932 Agreed, I'm glad it was reused for Bloodstained. Being able to turn yellow shards/souls into silver shards/souls by upgrading them to the max is a genius idea too
The Valkyrie soul is an incredibly rare drop at 0.5 percent and its used to forge for great swords and the spear family. However if you are willing to wait you can actually find both the Durandul and the Lance in the Pinnacle saving you the headache for having to grind.
The vacuum cleaner is also great and under rated blue soul, better than manicore, it only heals for a hit, hits hard and I'd you did know ABSORBS MOST PROJECTILES. Yeah it stops bullets. Also super low cost
If anyone's wondering about the button inputs for the Magic Seals: DO NOT hold the buttons down! Press and release, then press the next button in the sequence. I had to learn that the hard way.
I'm glad that you made this video! I just got back into this game, because of the new collection. I haven't played it since 2006, so this helps me to catch up on some important things to keep in mind when playing. Man do I love this game! All of these games are great! Just curious, would you ever consider doing a weapons tier list for this game? To the best of my knowledge, there isn't something like Crissaegrim from SOTN or Claihm from AOS that is distantly and obviously the best weapon, so I am curious as to what would be considered to be the weapons worth going for in this game. It seems like there are pros and cons to all of the different weapon types/classes.
I am about 9 hours in my first playthrough, about to open the final area. You telling me now that luck doesn't help, when I have been using a my 9 ghost dancer soul for farming, hurts me a little. Thanks for video, I am glad I have been using manticore since the beginning for boss fights.
@@satalan It's weird, I sorta feel the same specifically for common souls but unless there's something hidden in the game that hackers haven't been able to find in all these years, the likelihood that you'll drop a warg soul, one the most common in the game, increases from 9.38% at 3 Luck at the start of the game to 9.61% at 99 Luck while the rarest souls go from 0.39% to 0.40% in these same conditions in normal mode. Hard mode will quadruple the increase. So, yeah, +18 luck wouldn't do a lot for these odds.
There are few combos you can equip that the game doesn’t tell you about. First is Little Devil and Guillotiner. Little Devil is a familiar that fires a weak projectile at enemies every so often. With these two equipped, Soma can attack with two Guillotines for the price of one. This also applies with Slogra and Gaibon souls equipped allowing Soma to chuck two spears for the price of one. Skeleton Ape is great for adding distance to any Bullet soul. For comedy options, Ouija Table allows Soma to gain a frankly ridiculous amount of HP and MP regen by finding a chair and sitting in it. Skeleton Farmer plus Mandragora is frankly broken in terms of damage done. Waiter Skeleton plus Persephone is what I like to call the Good Service Soma build. Unfortunately only reliably viable late game, but can effectively deal with the last few bosses and areas pretty well. Finally, for all you pet lovers out there, grab the Student Witch and Dead Mate souls. Unfortunately, they can only be equipped to two different sets and Dead Mate is acquired very late in the game.
As someone who never played Dawn until the Dominus collection here's a few i found useful: White Dragon, while the range isn't extreme the damage is very good. Plenty of enemies got a faceful of flame, and it's an easy grind to power it up. Besides it's a flamethrower, what's not to like? I liked Spin Devil, on some bigger boys i could just stand underneath and tornado the hell out of them. Killer Clown may be needed for Paranoia but it felt great in its own right.
Honestly, I’m very curious to see if the Dominus games will somehow end up with mod support, purely for things like changing portraits or fixing the Luck problem. The luck/soul drop thing might sound small, but playing vanilla Aria for the first time and then jumping into Dawn Definitive+ is like night and day… pun intended :V
It infuriates me how the Dominus version STILL doesn't fix luck when the Definitive Edition romhack did that years ago. And the only way to get the Soul Eater Ring is to farm your ass off for crafting material. I feel like Malacoda isn't really worth it in a casual glitchless run. In the time it takes praying for a drop, you could've just closed out the game while chugging all those leftover potions. You can only use him for two bosses, neither of which is rocket science by that point.
Mandragora is a staple any time I play Dawn. It's such an easy soul to grab, deals fabrastic damage, gas great range, it's just amazing. One if the best early game souls.
It's also a good red soul when you need to deal multi hits if you don't have anything else. Combine with a katana weapon and yoz kill a final guard pretty fast. Imp doesn't work on those guys unfortunately
Some other souls I feel is worth grinding is the Skeleton Ape soul. When equipped, Soma throws all projectiles not only in a more accurate arc, but they do MORE damage. Best part is you only need one soul. Combined with Mandragora, it gives the it way more reach. Draghignazzo is another soul worth grinding. It prevents flinching from any attack and that is honestly a godsend because the knockback in DS is pretty far. Only downside is it’s a 3* rarity soul and it’s not fun to farm it.
I'm one of those weird ppl that decided 9 persephone is a good blue to have, is it amazing? maybe not, but I like the healing per hit and throwing it in while in melee range. I did notice that it'll do things that probably isn't first thought about to use it for, some of the weirdest one is that it sucks away certain projectiles, easiest to see this on something like against frozen shade, don't need to destroy the ice shards, just vacuum it all away. I was curious what is considered good soul recommendation and I already knew devil be one of them. a few of these however were a bit surprising.
I farm Persephone first, and keep her equipped for most of the game. Basically a free dps upgrade which also gives free healing, and it's fun to fight bosses with Persephone as the only damage source.
I've found the Witch soul to be a pretty helpful grinding tool since it's cheap, comes out fast, and homes in on enemies, making it easier to aim than Amaleric Sniper.
Nice tips! I never minded grinding in this game because, well, I was playing a Castlevania game. It's not a bad time. Still, I don't think I knew most of these!
If you want to be a beast with high damage, get the rare soul ring (via brass knuckles exploit), then go get Skeleton Farmer's soul (there's only 1 to my knowledge), then farm 9 souls of Alura Une (again only one in the game). When you activate her, you can't move, but you can use your controller stick to move the vines around and use your trigger to attack, like you would to break ice. Skeleton Farmer enhances plant based attacks. I can dish out 195-250 damage multiple times, mowing down all bosses/enemies with ease. Really helps farming the tougher souls late in the game too... Alura slices through them like butter.
For just a casual playthrough...Mandragora is IMO the best in the game. But it makes the whole game a lot easier, for a soul that can be found so early in the game.
Would you ever consider doing a movement tutorial? I’m not a speed runner, but I would love to learn to get around more quickly during my play throughs. Thanks.
So I gotta know, does rewind help with farming souls? Are the souls drop dictated on death or spawn? I have read it depends on the frame you kill them so rewind won't help unless you kill the enemies in different frames everytime
@clydefrosch true but it also means i can basically memorize them map telling me where they are. Portrait has a ton of em so i just farm the eye of decay in those most of the time.
I believe lv 9 Little Devil is made for the final boss as well, because she maintains in ceck every spawn that flich every time they got hit. I've compelted my first Menace on hard mode with L. Devil and Flame demon. Also Skeleton Farmer + Alura Une completely Owns Death and Paranoia, it was a funny scene
Manticore is great even to the late game. Level it up. Mini devil too. Just constant extra damage and mini homes too. Bat's at level 9 is nice early too. Mandragora nearly beat all others though the whole game, red valkyrie outclassed it sometimes. Killer clown is sometimes good for farming things away from doors.
Nice video , and a good idea for a new rubric . Luck almost does nothing . Well too bad , because I used second slot for max luck set . About using most effective souls and weapons , in this game you can use any soul or weapon . And play any way you want , this game isn't too difficult for casual player . minmaxing makes sense only for speedruns , at least i think so .
Can say at the very least that everything required to upgrade to Claiohm Solais is worthwhile. Whether you want copies of those souls to actually use is a different story, but Solais is an amazing weapon of one of the best types in the series. Granted, I’m speaking purely from a casual perspective; still, from that perspective, two handed swords are amazing and Solais in both Sorrow games is among the best of the type in the series. Edit: oh, you recommend katanas instead? You know what, I was thinking of picking up the Dominus collection, might be a good chance to try it out. Might’ve been greatsword maining the entire series too hard to really try other options.
Claimh is obviously extremely strong, but needing to farm Final Guards is so time consuming and annoying that I struggle to think it's a particularly good investment of time. Dragighnazzo is also a tedious farm to be expected to do for it. Death Scythe falls into the same boat. Katanas are just a much lower maintenance type to keep upgraded throughout the game. Their only rare farm is Barbariccia, the rest are fairly swift and painless grinds and because of the extremely fast attack speed with backdash cancels, they're very strong weapons for most of the game even ignoring the fact that they have faster grinds. Muramasa is not amazing at killing Menace compared to a Claimh or Death Scythe, but it's more than good enough.
hey jupiter, could you make a guide on how to use the DSvania randomizer? I downloaded the files but I have no idea what to do with them, and I can't find a tutorial anywhere
Yeah probably just gonna stick to mandragora trent spam for the future. I wish that devil worked more like the cerberus ability from Order of Ecclesia where the lower your hp is the stronger you are, I dunno I´ve really enjoyed the nohit way of fighting bosses in that one along with the deathring. Also I´d say skip Erynesse, I always felt it´s quicker than Mandragora but overall does less damage and is much harder to get than Mandragora. Also final hottake bomb when it actually hits is kinda fun to use.
I've gotten some questions about this so wanted to mention: While this video is focused on soul drop recommendations, the Rare Ring DOES WORK for items! It doubles the chance of both Common and Rare item drops.

You know what? I'm really glad bloodstained gave us the power to upgrade yellow souls into grey souls. Because it deals with my worries about missing out on something and instead just gives me a "Get EVERYTHING" fixation. Which I already have, so no big deal.
I think it just breaks bloodstained. Getting all yellows to grey just makes you ridiculously overpowered
@@broreece admittedly I don't upgrade them all to grey until endgame as it is.
Fun fact: Mandragora is not only powerful due to its ATK, but also because it deals stab and cut damage. If the target has a weakness against two physical types, they'll take 50% more damage than usual. There aren't many souls with two damage types in DoS.
How the hell did it go from holy to cut&stab😂
@@dearickangelonej.legaspi6686 It was holy in Aria ? Dayum lol
I thought it was lightning lol.
In the dominus collection, there is a compendium where y'all can check the damage types of every soul even before you collect them
I wonder if the advance collection also has this
Worth noting that Aguni and Abaddon are obtained from bosses, and are excellent red souls for the reaminder of the game.
I want to like print this comment out and tape it to my wall like a nice GameFAQs post from childhood while I play the new collection
This is gold knowledge
Recommending the life-draining soul to all the casuals out there who never played the game surely is a spicy move.

Jup : yellown't
Boy this sure is awesome to see literal DAYS after I beat the DE+ patch of this game. Still gonna refer to this for any future playthroughs.
My big scam is always to buy a bunch of Brass Knuckles and farm Zombie to synthesize them into Cestus and sell for a profit, since you can farm Zombie five at a time nearby the shop. Less traveling than going out for Slaughterer, probably increases to profit per minute overall.
and you don't have to watch that synthesis animation as often as before
Still love to see Dawn getting love, especially from you Jupiter! Loving your vids as always.

What was wrong with it? I never had trouble with it in the DS or Dominus versions.
@@mitchells2003 in the speedrun he hit the seesaw with the hammer but the ball didn't fly up
I think they didn't fix luck because its technically not broken.
Man I've been loving these casual videos, keep it up :D
Very thorough. I knew a few of these but learned quite a bit.
Personally I like grabbing Rune Ring and grind Treant ASAP though I think the Treant farm can be quite tedious.
Legit streamed this on the Dominus collection trying to rush the achievements and had a hard time lol
I usually love to grind in any game, but I realized in DoS you need to actively seek for the "good stuff" if you plan to finish it quickly (or just practice speedruns haha). Anyway great video as usual.
What's worth farming in Portrait of Ruin? "Just get shurikens lol" *video ends*
This is actually my favorite Castlevania game
Watching this made me realize how many of my strategies were right and wrong when I played the DS version...
Thank you so much for this guide it was really helpful! I'm super close to the ending of dawn of sorrow and I'm trying to get EVERY single soul in the game along with the strongest weapons
I had zero idea that Yorick was so capable, mind blown.
Not like needed in the sense of i need it to beat the game but say in Potrait of Ruins the main reason i want to replay the game was to play around with Heaven Sword and i need to farm them before that lol
The footage showcasing Malacoda is wild
This is very informative, thank you! Do you think you'll be doing similar videos for PoR and OoE? And possibly Bloodstained too?
It's fun seeing this game make a comeback.
The thumbnail killed me. So simple, yet so clever.
When I played casually, I got the Bhuj and used it basically the entire game lol. Got Axe Armor to a pretty high level and used that most of the game too. Then obv Golem for the STR. I found your channel immediately after I finished the game and UA-cam recommended me the weapon tier list video. Good times
what's worth farming will depend on what type of players
If you're new, and just want to have fun:
- Axe Armor: go in arch, pierce target, deal chip damage
- Mandragora: quick explosion in large radius that deal so much damage in one-shot.
If you're aiming to get Chaos Ring, aka the most broken gear in the whole series:
- Bat (max level asap): they will track enemies and kill them, so you can just pop it up to kill Medusa Head without even doing anything
- Buer: alternative to Bat
- Imp: useful to kill Iron Golem, who has 15 MP instead of 50 HP
- Dead Pirate: extremely useful to kill Iron Golem, with this, you can deal 2 dmg per hit instead of 1 on the back. (still don't know why this soul doesn't work on Final Guard)
- Puppet Master (may need Skeleton Ape): Use this to safely get into Iron Golem's back, as they can't turn around.
I know I could be wrong here and there, so let me know if I do, just don't be an a$$hole about it.
you can get through subterranean hell spikes with bone ark too
Always preferred going through first half of the game with Axe Armor till getting stuff like Erinys and Malacoda.
Attacking far above also helps for breaking specific ceilings(e.g. foie gras room) too.
As the farmer, Soma, collected his daily harvest, souls, he heard a voice familiar to us all...
Seriosly would love to see a series of videos of just you explaining random DSvania facts😂

The soul system is beyond perfect for a Metroidvania.
So many souls in this game are fun to use and experiment with.
@@HoseB932 Agreed, I'm glad it was reused for Bloodstained. Being able to turn yellow shards/souls into silver shards/souls by upgrading them to the max is a genius idea too
@
Hard agree, Ritual of the Night took the most cool thing and made it somehow even better (more forgiving drop rates and more souls/shards)
Mandragora + Skeleton Ape was my go-to in my recent no-grinding run. Phenomenal combo.
It's crazy how good this game is! I only beat it again last week on Switch and already wanna play it again after watching this.
I too am a big fan of the game Donna Saro
I am about 9 hours in my first playthrough, about to open the final area. You telling me now that luck doesn't help, when I have been using a my 9 ghost dancer soul for farming, hurts me a little. Thanks for video, I am glad I have been using manticore since the beginning for boss fights.
How about doing that for twenty hours + and only learning it doesn't help after getting all achievements? 💀
I don't think it's true, I've been getting souls easier ever since gaining / using the 9 ghost dancer souls
I like the Skelerang soul.
Throwing weapons are actually so nice for farming stuff
I like this format of videos you are doing now
There are few combos you can equip that the game doesn’t tell you about.
As someone who never played Dawn until the Dominus collection here's a few i found useful:
White Dragon, while the range isn't extreme the damage is very good.
DUDE you're like the only one that brings up DE in this comment
Love that hack and there's also DE+ which is even better
Aria was the better game in every way compared to Dawn.
I realised you can abuse rewind to farm souls. They are determined upon death, not screen transition.
Nope, it doesn't work like that. It's set by switching screens :(
@@fabrizziovacante7409 It does. I did it with some of the rarer enemies
Mandragora is a staple any time I play Dawn. It's such an easy soul to grab, deals fabrastic damage, gas great range, it's just amazing. One if the best early game souls.
One of my personal favorite red souls is Witch. The projectile deals decent damage when maxed out, homes in on enemies and costs only 20 MP.
comment for the algorithm (good video)
Dude, 2 months ago? Dawn of sorrow is still alive? Best day of my life
The dominus collection was released recently
@jakubmadron7776 I know I know, it's a great thing
From what I remember from my LP, my personal favourite is Treant soul which makes MP regen rate not suck. And it makes Erinys viable.
Surprised by no mention of treant
shoutout to frozen shade
sure it's just kind of objectively inferior fo aguni in every way but
it looks cool
If only they also gave us harmony of despair
Persephone also can suck some projectiles and smokes. Less worry against Gergoth.
@@OverseerMoti and Abbadon and Death.
one soul that wasn't mentioned here, that i personally like to grind to max level, is the Buer soul.

JupiterClimb I would recommend that people get the axe at the beginning instead of later on.
Mandragora, my beloved
Same ahhhhhhh!!!! 💥 it’s all I use
Mandragora or erynis are so good they make 90% of souls useless.
The dominus collection is one of the best thing that could happen to the ds trilogy
I was waiting for Mandragora, got that on my first run and it carried me through 90% of the game.
Aw man, luck still isn't fixed in the collection.
Kinda surpised Persephone wasn't mentioned. She renders every enemy projectile usless, really helpfull against some bosses. Such a good ability.
I liked to use the malachi soul despite how bad it is against most strong enemies. But it definitely helped against abbadons fly storm.
I farmed for Peeping Eye and then found out this game has barely any breakable walls...
Meaning you need peeper to find them
There are only 4 breakable walls and the most reward aren't even good.
@clydefrosch true but it also means i can basically memorize them map telling me where they are. Portrait has a ton of em so i just farm the eye of decay in those most of the time.
I actually really like the soul that lets you eat rotten meat. It heals for 200 and can be farmed extremely easily

Always remember when playing any Castlevania game, kids:
"The luck stat doesn't exist!"
Always wondered why the luck is so bad in this game.
Ive played through this game so many times, and i didnt know devil could be used at such a low hp.
One of my favorite soul is persephone, but full level. Think about it, you can Vakuum all things and enemy's.
A lot, but god damn it I HATE the magic circle shit
Me too that’s why aria is better even with the button combos it still sucks and I hate all the touch screen non sense
I used Witch soul the most. Holy damage, low cost and it slightly auto targets the nearest enemy.
Imp warning:
This soul currently crashes the game on the PS5.
Specifically during boss rush.
EVERYTHING is worth farming for because I have completionist ocd on a scale like no other
Dainself was the weapon that i beat the game first time, the best weapon to beat the game if is your first run
For me slime and curry dish (Waitrose skeleton) is one of the most effective soul in this game
Witch is actually pretty good for a casual run I think it’s underrated
