Full piano medley of all music from the 14-time Academy Award Nominated Motion Picture, “La La Land”, directed by Damien Chazelle, and starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.
One of my all-time favorite films is Chazelle’s previous project, “Whiplash”. The acting is superb, the appreciation for jazz runs deep, and the very last shot made me audibly gasp with awe. Needless to say, I was quite excited to see this next flick of his, which seemed to be a modern musical, paying homage to the Golden Age of Hollywood. When I saw the film, I was amazed. I absolutely fell in love with the beautifully crafted music from La La Land, composed expertly by Justin Hurwitz, and immediately started learning the piano arrangements as soon as I returned from the cinema. There is such a wide range of genres featured in the Soundtrack and Score alike, and I adore every single piece of it. I hope you enjoy listening to my medley as much as I enjoyed arranging it. If you haven’t yet seen La La Land, what are you waiting for?! It well deserves every Oscar it’s nominated for, and is truly a modern classic.
Now sit back, relax, and waltz through the stars with this presentation of David Kaylor’s ‘La La Land’ Piano Medley, in beautiful 2.55:1 CinemaScope Technicolor.

David Kaylor THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CITY OF STARS AND ANOTHER DAY OF SUN!! Means a ton! Will you also add the others in this medley??
Jerry Zhao You're very welcome!!! 😊 I will!! I'm currently working on the rest! Next up, "Deck The Halls / Mia & Sebastian's Theme"!
David Kaylor, please transcribe A Lovely Night and Emma's Audition. I really like your cover of these two songs; it's probably the best on UA-cam!!
Kev L Thank you very much!!! I shall get to those as soon as I can! 😄😊
Hi David, this was awesome! Could you possibly arrange the notes for 'Someone in the Crowd'? That was my favourite but the others were also great!
I feel like I just watched the entire film... but with my ears...
Arkadius Mashups OMG I totally agree with you!! And I still get the feels! Just as good as watching the movie
Arkadius Mashups me too ;)
All the film is about is music XD
this song gave me flashback at the ending of the movie. So much hurt.
@@jdredemption2409 disagree lmao
The fact that this dude could play the whole thing in one go without messing up a single note is unfathomable to me
yeah.... about that
Who says he didn't miss a note XD
We just don't notice, and that is the amazing thing. Always act like it was meant to be that way.
Well... once or twice. But once or twice in a half hour set is extraordinary. I love this video so much!
I scond this
He missed many, and this is still a masterpiece in spite of that, greatest piano cover of a musical ever
Can we just appreciate that this fine gentleman took 55 days out of his life to learn and play this for us, incredible job!!!!!!
I’m learning how to play Mia and Seb’s theme song
6 years later and this is still one of the top medleys carrying me through my studies !
singlehandedly getting me through multivariable calculus, at this point this guy should get an honorary degree whenever I graduate
Same! Carried me through high school's last minute exams and now university projects. Crazy time having the audacity to pass so quickly. But this beautiful medley has been a comfort and inspiration through it all.
He is playing so passionately.
Yup, that's definitely what someone who enjoys what they do looks like.
I can't imagine how much his back must've hurt after this
Xavier Felix 😂 not many people consider the back, but thank you!
Pianists practice for up to 8 hours a day, I don‘t think half an hour is that bad xD
lol

FIve years later and I still come here to this beautiful medley 🥺🥺❤❤
Thank you so much!!
pretty insane he's doing this all from memory!
Muscle memory at its absolute finest
Like Mia says in the movie, "People like what other people are passionate about". It shows how much you love what you play! Amazing and inspiring. Complete justice to the amazing music that it already is! Very inspiring!
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it! 😄😊

“To play a wrong note is insignificant, to play without passion is inexcusable” Ludwig Van Beethoven. The Master!
My father used to make me play music, he hope that I became an artist one day (I sort of did, I'm now a graphic designer) in music field, but in the middle of my piano lesson my father died because of lung cancer, it was in 2009 and it still make me sad until now. And I never touch any instrument since my father wasn't around. Listening and see this video bring something inside of me. It encourage me to learn piano again. Thank you for making this video. You're amazing!
Fany Puspita I'm so sorry to hear that. But I'm so glad that my video has moved you so, and I really appreciate it :)
God bless you and your father. ❤️
it is sad, but please don't give up, and your father will watch you somewhere in heaven
Mate, I have a feeling this is a copypasta. Go away if it is, if not, I offer my condolences.
@@cfdeers why are you so dense.....
This needs to go viral - like... right now.
trexation im gonna help and share the video :D
It ain't 30 seconds long. It won't become viral.
What an excellent ending, BRAVO.
I’ve been a pianist for twenty years. And have two degrees and have definitely spent 10,000 honing my craft. (Might go for my masters someday)
To play this, at this level, I right now I would need 6 months/year to learn all this, from memory. Probably another few months after that to get it as polished as he did and recording worthy.
It’s that complex, don’t let him fool you. but he makes it so easy, He definitely put in months to prepare this I guarantee.
The great masters are smiling today feeling this music from the great beyond.
this just proves that the la la land soundtrack is amazing and so is this pianist
not really. if the sountrack sounds amazing it's probably because all you've ever listened to the same four or five chord songs all your life, and any tiny bit of complex harmony sounds impressive. the pianist isn't great, he doesn't have very good EXPRESSION, ARTICULATION, DYNAMICS, RHYTHM, or FEEL. he's just playing notes.
@@fresamouse nah man. Your just a cynic.
@@fresamouse from a professional musician you have no idea what you are talking about :)
@@zinkmystic88 oh shoot, I'm also a musician, and and I do indeed know what I'm talking about. BUT I really shouldn't have wrote this looking back.
I hate snobbery or elitism more than anything (especially as a music tutor) it makes the barriers for entry so overwhelming and intimidating, making music super inaccessible for beginners.
The La La Land soundtrack is amazing, it should be noted. I think my past self was just annoyed most people were calling it 'JAZZ,' when the score was written by a upper class white guy who is very transparently more classical/musical theatre inspired - he had to go out of his way to study Black American music, without being connected to the culture in any way. So many people were acting like this film and soundtrack were representative of jazz, which is the real problem. It creates an imagined version of jazz and pushes away the lush culture of Black American music that continues to exist. To be fair, that is something I'm still keenly aware of, but the music in La La Land itself is still totally awesome and I do love it.
And even though my comments of this particular pianist's lack of emotion in the music still hold up I think, to say something so vitriolically, without offering any genuine constructive criticism was very inappropriate and not helpful for anyone, and for that I am deeply regretful.
Live Love Make Music
All the best,
Fresamouse :)

Genius.

David Kaylor the song that Sebastian is practicing is called 'The Japanese Folk Song' or something along those lines!! PS. Can't give this video enough praise! Excellent work :)

You call this a medley seriously ... ?
IT'S THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK
Even includes the Christmas tunes Seb was forced to play at the restaurant 😂
Oh God I LOVE YOU- 😂😂😂I can't even- 😂😂
EXACTLY
My husband loved playing this ❤️😇 I know he is still playing this up high x I would wake up in the morning, get up , walk into the Living Room to find him playing this x he taught me how to play some of it but not fully, I’m sure he loved his piano more than me 😂💕💞 damn I love that man and I know I will meet him again if maybe 45 years on from now and I know I’ll walk in the gates and he’ll be sitting there playing his piano 😭💞
I believe he is still playing it too Shi - love and art transcend all. What a wonderful memory you chose to share with us, thank you.

@David Kylor that's so unbelievably entertaining and it's only one instrument... no other instrument is able to be so emotional and touching, it's really an honor to hear this! It is art! I'm a drummer and I love my instrument but 30 minutes without being boring at any time..I think this is only possible with a piano - and of course with somebody who can play it like this. Wonderful!!
Thomas Müller Thank you so much, man!! I really appreciate it! I am also a drummer, and feel you there ;p I do love the piano; it really is magical. Thanks again! Cheers, mate 😄😊
The beginning of Another day of sun just makes me get up and dance and say

Playing this on repeat got me through another day of work (and that means a lot). Also, the "Presented in CinemaScope" was a thoughtful touch! This is brilliant, thank you xx
puji maharani Aw, I'm so glad! And thank you very much! 😁☺️
As a pianist myself, La La Land is my absolute favorite soundtrack simply because of how much emotion there is. It’s so easy to go from euphoric to sad in a matter of measures in so many of these pieces.
I have always love the the soundtrack of this movie, first time I saw this movie was yesterday and it change my life. I think it is a hard time for everyone because of the coronavirus, many people is dying, when you open your phone you just see bad notices, it is sad.
I am musician and it have passed through my head that maybe studying music next year is probably not the best idea because many things are gonna change because of this pandemia. I was wrong, in this times what we need is music. To stay positive. After watching this movie I ran to UA-cam and spent hours watching piano videos of this soundtrack, and honestly yours is the best. It brought me peace, and a illusion that everything is gonna be al right. And today more than any day I know that I want to be a profesional pianist. Thank you for sharing this with us. Stay safe.
Nice f'ing job man. As a pianist I know the insane amount of work that would go into this.

how did you record your piano?
You’re so good too!!!

City of stars is always the highlight of each cover, I love it.

la la land is very underappreciated. Anyone who isn't in show bussiness or hasn't tried to pursue it doesn't understand. It was very relatable to me. This musical was real and thats what hit hard.💕
It made half a billion dollars and won 6 Oscars
because not everyone can appreciate real art

Wow this was very very well done! I've been listening to so many other medleys over the past weeks but this one is not only the best but also the most accurate. I found this vid and I completely lost my mind! I finish watching La La Land and I wanted to hear its soundtrack in piano form because I play the piano. BUT the minute I heard this I got blown away from all of that perfect melody and rhythm. The day I saw this I played this about 4 times full or more. I even went to sleep by this! I bet you were very tired after this.Once again, thank you very much.
I'm just glad I didn't watch your cover before trying anything of my own...! I mean... You include even the ringtone, how cool is that?! No words to express the admiration... Well played in all senses!

This video still has the single best arrangement of Another Day of Sun for solo piano I’ve seen. Your attention to details both in the arrangement and in the performance is spectacular, and I love how you capture the sound and the spirit of every segment of the song with different musical tools on one humble piano. Incredible. (Although I could say the same with basically all the songs here)

David, you're extremely talented. I've listened to this video in its entirety many times now. I loved your arrangements/interpretation and all the songs from La La Land (particularly the 'walking bass' in a lot of the songs). I'd buy your sheet music, but its beyond my capabilities at the moment. For now, I'll just have to admire from afar.
Ughhhh La La Land is still one of my favorite movies and this video just reminded me how much I still love it. You're so good and I couldn't help but smile throughout the whole video!
I don't have any sheets to this arrangement, as I arranged it by ear. But Marioverehrer uploaded the transcription tutorial of my medley, if that strikes your fancy. Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/z98EtQqPVhY/v-deo.html

Your skill is something I wish to have one day. You are truly an inspiration.
And even if you'd release the Sheets of what you played here I pretty sure you'll get your video strick for that. Cause that's what happened to that korean pianist who made to first cover of Another day of sun and Someone in the crowd. (I think he was part of the first to make a cover of the song, but you still correct me in that)
But speak about the copy right in his description of those videos.
How, how, how amazing you are at making a piano buzz with life, David. Best musically mastered work ever. And thank you , Justin H., for such delightful music. Pretty, jazzy, outstanding musical. ❤❤❤
Thank you!!
come to this every year. my comfort video for sure. never heard something so well composed in my life and well played, and this is coming from someone who's never touched a piano. favourite UA-cam video ever
Thank you so much!!
I'm so obsessed with the La La Land original soundtrack and score. And that includes all of their UA-cam covers too! And this is one of the best piano covers I've listened to! I love the way you play and how you arranged my favorite songs. Thank you for sharing !!!
qwertydfas Thank you very much!!! I appreciate it 😁
Everyday I watch the whole video... It's just perfectly played!! You did a very great job
Amadou Ba Thank you so much!! Glad the repeat viewing of my medley is so high! 😄 I appreciate it 😊
me too, thanks a lot for this perfomance
I appreciate this with my whole heart, it is such a masterpiece so beautiful , Thank you for making this
Thank you very much!! I'm so glad!
This is like one of the most amazing things to exist ever. I love La La Land, and this definitely does it justice(and more). Amazing work.
First time I watched till the end of a video longer than 30 minutes on youtube...
Tarang Joseph I'm honored!! Thanks for watching! 😄😊
Obrigada
Because no ads there..
Me too, I never thought I would spend 1 hour with a piano video!
Saw the first UA-cam video you posted 7 years ago and laughed so hard (not to insult you; but because it's amazing how far you've come). 7 years ago, you named yourself the "Variety Guy" with the intention to show us games, videos, fun stuff, etc. Now, you're posting videos that showcase your incredible skill in the field of music and flawless technique when handling the keyboard. Kudos!
I love to hear this medley one ina while, always giving me chills.
It’s crazy how someone can be this talented!
Mia and sabastian theme you played was just AWESOME. got jitters.
Aneeque Parvez Thank you!! 😄
Hi David, I'm sure making these medleys takes more effort than I could fathom but listening to them while I work makes my work more effortless. Thank you for making them!
Prerna Bountra Thank you so much!! They are quite a bit of effort - but very fun as well! I'm so glad they help with your work. And you're very welcome for making them! 😄😊
Prerna Bountra is good~~^^
I like that song^^
This is phenomenal! It's the little details that make this so gorgeous - the phone tone, the small section of Deck the Halls, the little things that everyone forgets but so happen to be my favourite things. Thank you so much for putting so much into this!
What a wonderful place UA-cam is that someone so damn talented like you can show himself off and bring joy for us, average music lovers! I enjoyed every single minute of this medley because the whole thing is AMAZING, I can't even find the right words for it 😍
La La Land is one of my favorite movies, especially for its magnificent soundtrack but on the level and with the passion YOU can play it, it's even more sublime. So thank you for this hell of a performance, I'll always listen to it when I need some faith in the world and humanity. 😌
Seriously David, that is ridiculously good!! If you did that by ear, you are an amazing talent. The transcription was so full in form. Great left hand bass and voice leading. Simply amazing. Were you able to get the orchestral score? Regardless, it is a joy to listen to. Thanks so much for your contribution.
Every once in a long time I'm absolutely slayed by a soundtrack, this is one of them. For me it ranks with the best of all time. I absolutely love it.
I'd die to have the piano score of this transcription. If it were available, I'd pay any reasonable fee.
Nick Kaminski Thank you so much!!! 😄 I did arrange it by ear :) I'm so glad you enjoyed!
I totally agree; this soundtrack will definitely go down as one of the greats! I am still so obsessed with it.
I don't have the sheet music, as it would take a very long time to create for this 32 minute piece, (as well as the product being probably hundreds of pages long. :p) However, if you follow the link in the description, it'll take you to a synthesia tutorial of this arrangement. Hope that helps!
Thanks again, man!! 😊
Hello again! So I finally took the time to transcribe the sheets!! :P - bit.ly/2nEa4Dq 😄
I will be adding more of my La La Land arrangements as soon as I can, but this is a start! 😊 Thanks again!
Nick Kaminski Mind boggling...how on earth can one do it by ear?
When I saw this video when it was first uploadedI knew it deserved to be at the top of the list when searching for la la land piano covers, I'm glad to look this up and it's up here. Congrats! For those new to this, you won't find another transcription with as much detail into all the songs and reproduction of the feel of the songs as david's... this is a transcriptional masterpiece of its own (piano wise) worthy of hurowitzs amazing score, in my opinion.
Thank you so much!! I really, really appreciate it! 😊
What did I just watch!!! David! You are a special person in this world. LA LA LAND is my favorite film of all times. I play piano ok and listen online now and then, but this,,, this may be my all time favorite recording... Clearly this is half dedication/practice and the other half shear genius. I don't care how skilled a pianist is, playing like that requires natural talent! Honestly I'm blown away. You deserve every bit of recognition and pat on the back. This is a life accomplishment to produce something like this. Please please let me know when I can watch you live in concert! I promise I will be there. Well done. I am in shock...
