For everyone wondering, "How much time in the microwave?" You have to put the sugar and water mixture in the microwave for AT LEAST 30 seconds and then take it out, stir, put it back in and do this 3-4 times. If your mixture is ready before 3-4 times, don't put it back in.
THANK YOU SO MUCHHH!!! the first time i made tanghulu was with my mom and we had a bunch of crystalized sugar in the pot we used, i begged her to make it since im ten and got in trouble but this was so easy! TYSMMM
(⚠️NOT TALKING ABOUT THIS VID⚠️) So around a year and a half ago, I saw a video talking about making tanghulu. I was immediately impressed and wanted to try... bad mistake... anyways so I took a random tiny bowl, then put sugar and water. I put it into the microwave and then dipped my fruit in. It came out great! Until... it started hardening, so i thought i could just microwave it again. I didn't realize at the time that the bottom was still liquid. So after i microwaved it again, it started smoking, so I immediately ran outside to go let it cool... My stupid ahh didn't think about IT BEING A PLASTIC BOWL, so it melted through... ONTO MY HAND😭😭. It gave me 2nd degree burns all on my hand, so now im forever scarred from making tanghulu.💀
I just tried this. It took a little bit longer than five minutes and you need to try a couple times to get it right but when we did we got an amazing result. You need to leave it in the water for like 10 minutes for it to completely harden.
i tried this and it worked! followed all the directions and i used green grapes. tysm for this video bc i tried doing stovetop tanghulu but it would always crystallize.
@@groovyfoodiessquick question, how do I tell what the right temperature is without a thermometer? I know I should be able to tell by the color but like how dark/light should it be? ❤
⚠️PLEASE USE EXTREME CAUTION WHEN USING THIS METHOD!⚠️ I saw this on How to Cook That where people used plastic and the hot sugar melted through the bottom and burned them. Also, cases where they used glass (Pyrex too) and it blew up because they heated it for too long and it got to too hot of a temperature. Extreme temperature changes can also cause glass to break/explode-sometimes even Pyrex. The extremely hot mixture burned them very badly. Plus, since it’s sticky-it’s not easy to get off of your skin. So it stays on for longer, keeping your skin hot for longer-causing a worse burn in the long run. The safest way by far to make tanghulu is on the stove in a saucepan. That way the sugar can get to the high temperature it needs to be at in order to melt, in a pot that is designed to that. ❤ Happy cooking ❤
Omg tysm this is amazing bcuz I always try and make Tanghulu but I end up burning it and it never comes out right but this is so much easierrrr!!! And also I’m always left with so much extra sugar and water mixture that just goes to waste so this is oerfect

Yeah, do NOT do this. Melted sugar is 365°F. I bet none of y’alls microwave safe dishes are rated for those temperatures. Sugar burns are also the worst kind because the hot sugar sticks to your skin.
I did. it with a plastic cup first in my microwave- and it kinda uh melted with the sugar getting all black then I tried again with a glass cup, the glass snapped in half

Don't do this. Even a good glass cup/bowl can explode. I've seen it happen, the bottom fell off and the sugar completely poured over the microwave plate, it was the scariest thing ever.
Omg it worked thank you so much i used to do the other method but it took way long time but this worked in 2 min and so good results thanks for posting this video it helps so much❤
I tried this and it worked to well! If you wana try quick disclaimer: I used my plastic up and it Kinda melted it because the sugar was so hot! If you wana try use a plastic cup u don't use normally or glass anything is fine, as long has u don't use the cup all the time .
⚠️ DO NOT USE A PLASTIC CUP ⚠️ Even if it's one you do not care about like the poster above said. 1) you don't want to consume melted plastic which could mix into the sugar. 2) even if the bowl or cup seems like it's just warping from the heat, holes can suddenly form in thinner spots or where the heat is concentrated, and it can drip onto your skin, causing severe burns like some people in these very comments have reported happening to them because they watched similar videos and thought it would be fun to try. ⚠️ THIS IS INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. DO NOT ATTEMPT UNLESS YOU ARE AN ADULT, HAVE ADULT SUPERVISION, AND/OR ARE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN YOU KNOW HOW TO BE CAREFUL. ⚠️
idk why but this was not working for me!! i was so upset and no matter what i tried the sugar and water wouldn’t bubble. i did 8 tbs of sugar and 4 tbs of water to double it and 30 sec intervals but it just wouldn’t work. does anyone have any tips?🤞
So I did that today and I put the sugar in the microwave and when I took it out it was back like coofe or something so yeah it got burnt and my whole house stunk
Tell me why I tried this before i saw this video and the sugar exploded the moment I put my damn fruit in the sugar melted Sugar by the way it exploded 💀
Tanghulu originated during the Southern Song Dynasty in China. At that time, Song Guangzong's favorite concubine was ill, and the doctor recommended that she eat brown sugar-fried red fruits (ie hawthorn) every day for two weeks. When the imperial concubine miraculously recovered, this practice spread to the people and gradually evolved into Tanghulu and became a popular street snack.
I made tanghulu with my friends at a sleepover and it took so long to melt the sugar, we did this with grapes it was so good but it took forever to take the sugar off the tooths😂😂😂
I love tanghulu. But no matter what, nothing beats the tanghulu i ate in china. They use hawthorn and rock sugar cluster(?idk, but from what I've seen, it's not normal sugar that we use to make these at home). It was so good.

Put extremely hot water in it and leave it for a while

when i do anything with sugar, i just run water for a while and let it sit in the water
