Praise the Lord! My Sis Mahalia had God the Holy Spirit within her, a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! How do I know?! When she sang, her stunning voice pealed out with the JOY OF THE LORD WHO WAS HER STRENGTH! My sweet late Mother played only spirituals in our home as we were growing up, no other kind of singing! And Sis Mahalia was her favorite! I've been saved for 45 yrs. now and look forward to seeing her in the Presence of God in glory!
I’m so glad you reacted to this song. Of all the reactors I knew you’d appreciate Mahalia’s magic. This is a song brings back memories of my mom, who passed in 2015. Whenever the movie Imitation of Life came on we would stop what we were doing and watch it together and ball our eyes out . The movie is so moving and heartbreaking and this scene with Mahalia will be imprinted on my brain forever. Listen to the entire song. I wanted to have this played at my mom’s funeral but we were only allowed 5 songs and there were too many people adding their songs. I chose one that she specifically requested “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill. I should fought to add this one as well. I love your reactions. I came upon your channel through Ren. Please do more Mahalia. Your beautiful voice suits hers.
You just don't understand how I love Tenor and Baritone gospel singing women. Just beautiful. I would have been crying if I heard her sing live. Everytime I used to sing in church, they kept asking to sing her songs.
As a boy in London in the 50s and 60s it was Paul Robeson that everyone knew as regards singing Spirituals. What a voice, the same with Mahalia, also such DIGNITY. Later, it was the old Black blues musicians from the 20s and 30s which we loved. Back to Gospel singing, Blind Willie Johnson stands out, for me
Her overall control, and especially to step up and down in pitch without losing any power, is just astounding. It's hard to believe no matter how many times you listen to her.
The way that mother (LANA TURNER) collapses into the song's lyrics @ 3:54 wiped me OUT as a kid and still does @ near 60! Mother Mahalia spoke from the SOUL to the SOUL!
Mahalia really is my all time favourite Gospel singer. I first heard her at 13 when my music teacher played her for the class. I've been obsessed ever since. And just quietly, that's a lot of years of Mahalia I've had :-) Then I found Etta James and Cleo Laine. Music heaven. And, oh my Lord, Eartha Kitt!!
Yes, there has been singers that has sung this song other than Mahalia Jackson but. it’s something about when Mahalia Jackson sings this song. It just reaches the depth of your soul. It’s just awesome.
The first time I heard her sing, I thought I was hearing the angels singing to our Lord as He was brought to the cross😢 It was so cool seeing your first reaction to her. I still have that reaction every time. She is an angel for sure. God bless her for sharing her voice with us.
This, was my dads favorit gospel singer. I grew up with Mahalia and I am balkanian. This song was a funeral song to a very sad movie I don't know how ir was called.
Such is amazing.❤❤❤❤❤ Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) on why he sampled Mahalia Jackson in 22 (Over Soon) "If there's anybody that ever sang for all of humanity, it's probably her".
she could have moved over to popular music but she refused. Sang only gospel her entire life. I have loved her since I first witnessed my mother listening to her with tears pouring down her face.
What you are trying to describe is her belief and her passionate soul. She is singing from the depth of her very being and so few singers do this, but when it done... it's awesome time. The jaw-dropping thing is that she is not thinking the notes that she is going to hit. She's just letting the song go where it needs to be, but controlling it at the same time.
Fun fact, Jimmy Barnes named his oldest daughter Mahalia after her, and she is in fact a great singer in her own right. All the Barnes children are very talented.
This is from one of my favorite movies ever. It is a story about life (pre-civil rights era) from a woman's perspective. Lana Turner's character Lora is semi-narcissistic, but is a woman fighting for an acting career while retaining her values as a virtuous person. Juanita Moore's character Annie is the true heroine in this movie. Lora and Annie meet at the beach; they both have daughter's and Annie is just recently homeless. Lora brings her home with her and they strike up a friendship. Lora wants Annie to live with her and Annie insists on working for that and becomes Lora's maid. Annie's daughter in of mixed blood and yearns for her life to be like Lora's daughter. Life goes on and the girls grow up with Annie being both the girls and Lora's rock. However, Annie's love is taken for granted until the end of the movie when they realize just how magnificent she was. Ms. Jackson's performance cut deep into the soul and the soul wept tears.
Mahalia Jackson: Come to Jesus, JUST A LITTLE WHILE TO STAY HERE, GOD PUT A 🌈 IN THE SKY; Her friend Elvis Presley admired her BIG TIME in fact they met in 1969; btw, u have a nice singing voice; also check out gospel singer CLARA WARD
I NEED YOU TO CHECK OUT.....LASHUN PACE SONG..... I KNOW I'VE BEEN CHANGED......AND THE OTHER SONG BY HER I NEED YOU TO DO IS....THERES A LEAK IN THIS OLD BUILDING...YOU WILL ENJOY IT I PROMISE...THANKS
Ironically that’s how Mahalia’s fame really started to spread in Chicago in the 1930s. People hired her to sing at funerals and then a record producer heard her and got her to Decca Records.
The clip you showed is from the movie Immitation of Life. The full song is so amazing! I lost my Mother a little over a year ago and haven’t been able to listen to it - until today. So thank you! When she sings about her Mother - i can’t even put it into words 😭 Here’s link if you ever want to hear it: ua-cam.com/video/00NbpFemRks/v-deo.html
Mahalia sings like she has a direct line to the Lord himself! Just beautiful.
That's probably one reason why Elvis Presley admired her singing style so much 🎵
Her voice helps souls cross over and the ones left behind cope with the pain... ❤️🥰😍🥰❤️
Mahalia Jackson was a human musical instrument! The greatest voice I believe I have ever heard truly a gift from God!
He had to get the reaction while watching the movie…OMG! She pulled my heart out if my chest in this movie
Her voice is hauntingly beautiful and so powerful!
It's like her voice wraps it's arms around you and tells you it will all be alright.
🔥🔥 sister Mahalia Jackson 🧡

Mahalia Jackson sings with the power and the anointing of God, and you can feel the holy spirit when she sings, thats the gospel truth.

She is the queen of gospel. Martin Luther King jr. used to call her when he couldn't sleep, and she'd sing him to sleep.
Her overall control, and especially to step up and down in pitch without losing any power, is just astounding. It's hard to believe no matter how many times you listen to her.
I love Mahalia Jackson! She sends me, for sure!
Yes! Same I still got chills thinking about that
I played her cassette over and over. Every song on it was beautiful. What a voice.
In my humble opinion, Mahalia Jackson and Shirley Bassey have the two utter most powerful voices that God ever made.

It was a message in this movie
Fun fact! Jimmy named his daughter after this woman! And young Mahalia Barnes is a RIDICULOUS , largely unrecognized singer, too!

Watch the movie and you really understand the emotions behind the song.
By the way your voice is veerryy nice.
Sir, look up Mahalia singing 'Joshua and the Battle of Jericho' one of MLK's speeches. It's awesome.
It’s call the Anointed of the Holy Spirit.
She had all Caurso records

Her tone is that of a younger areatha Franklin
Authority I think is the word
You've never heard Mahalia Jackson!?!?😐.
Whoops I responded to the wrong Mahalia. But if you like Whitneys tone, watch sweet dreams by Patsy Cline.
