Still after all these years, all that harm being done to our pets - glad we still have some vets around warning about the risks and adverse reactions, not denying and or minimalising them, nor automatically pointing to "other underlying issues". Keep up the good work
Tell me about . They make it sound like I’m a bad dog mom because I won’t go e my dogs the one that kills fleas ticks and heart worm . I live where heart worm isn’t vet. Why give my dogs something for something they don’t have . They have no fleas and they don’t get ticks so why treat for them
OMG, I am Horrified,. My 7 year old Poma poo has been on Bravecta for 5 years ! I just trusted my vet and the FDA, bit was I wrong. I always thought that AVet always had an animal's best interest at heart. Nobody can be trusted anymore but you Dr., keep it up, you are changing the world one paw at a time. we 😻 you !!

Thank you for making this video. My girlfriend's little Corgi was on bravecto for fleas. Just the other day she was giving him his 3-month dosage when he became unresponsive. While he was breathing his eyes were closed and he would not open them for about 30 to 60 Seconds.
Luckily he snapped out of it but was rather lethargic and showed a decreased appetite for the next 24 to 48 hours. She's definitely going to stop using bravecto and seek out a natural alternative.
It's just not worth taking that chance.

I used Bravecto on my 2 cats they both were affected by it. I only noticed because the ginger cat was red raw and fur missing at the site it was applied. I believe his slight heart murmur has been affected he's more lethargic and jumps in the fridge to cool down. My black cat has FHV he was at the vets after that put on Pro-kolin Advanced had diahrrea could see small white specks through his diahrrea I would say that was the Bravecto. He got bloods for FIV and FELV was negative but was told need done again 60 days could be false negative. I fed sick cat what he didn't eat I threw on roof Sad thing my cat ate it he has lost weight and body muscle. I'm guessing he has all them diseases maybe Lymphona. I blame myself not a day I don't cry wish I could turn the clock back. I also have white cat with squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)

I think my baby is the latest victim of this drug. They gave her a Heartguard + deworm and tick fleas all in one. She got a seizure after 5 hours of ingesting, good thing my stepdad is into animals, and he kind of saved her from drowning (heart). She is sitting on my lap while typing this while recovering, I hope she gets recovered in the morning. We will visit the Vet that recommended this to her. Imagine giving her 2x vaccine & this tablet in one visit, gosh.
Dr. Jones, bless you for putting this topic here. Oh the horrors of these drugs. My dog was on Bravecto for about a yr and a half and never ever had a reaction. His last dose , symptoms, is something I can’t unsee and I still feel guilty today for putting him at death’s door .
His first symptom was tremors, glassy eyes which would move side to side, humongous bloating of belly... His 4 paws swoll up. He would try walking and it was so uncoordinated he would lose his balance and fall down . Sorry this always makes me cry. I carried him out and had to support , hold him upright so he could urinate or defecate without falling down.
A perfectly healthy dog at death’s door because of a pill which to my knowledge has no reversal drug to give to counteract the pesticide inside his body .
He survived by God’s grace...certainly not by the Vet . I even showed the doc the video I took but still he wanted me to continue Bravecto. Doc changed his mind and ordered Symparica . Seriously?? No thanks.
I have no proof but will put it out here. From every being of my heart and soul I do believe Bravecto caused my dog’s Diabetes and frequent skin problems .
A dog does not crash for nothing .

Thank you for your honesty. I am SO relieved that your dog did not die. But you have other issues to deal with. So sorry that your Vet is one of the regimented big headed docs ....... they are out there. God Bless and keep you and your dog safe now.
I have similar experience. My yorkie caught fleas and I tried all I could but couldn’t get rid and needed something more effective. We visited the vet and she was given Bravecto. There was a real push on this, she said both of her dogs get it every 3 months and there was a discount scheme that came with it. Almost too good to be true, a 3 months of protection against fleas and ticks. So I gave her the soft chew and soon after she peed herself. She never does this unless unwell. Few weeks later she had a seizure. That caused panic..but then I did a research on Bravecto and many pet owners confirmed serious side effects and even death. I decided not to give this treatment ever again. Needless to say, she never had a seizure since. I would warn everyone from giving this treatment to their dog. My dog is now more aggressive than she used to be so there may be a permanent damage to her nervous system. Never again.
I am up in Canada. One of the products the vets here use is Avantix (Avantage with tic protection). You apply the product at the base their tail/spine & back of their neck where they can't reach to lick.
The product is an oily substance that sticks to the skin & doesn't come off easy. The applicator tubes are single dose tubes based on weight of the animal (which are made also for animals very small like 5 pounds). While 2 of my dogs do OK on it (12 pounds/14 pounds), my 3rd one (who is under 10lb). Within 10 minutes of applying the product to her skin, she started vomiting bloody mucus like crazy. It was a Saturday and no vet near me. (vet visits 2x/week here because it is a small town). The dog was not around anything she could have eaten, no one else was here to give here anything, she was perfectly fine before. So I had a limp bloody puking mess that was probably going to die within an hour if I didn't take drastic measures. She wasn't going to make the trip to the vet which is over an hour away)
Dawn dish soap is often used to remove toxic oils from animals caught in an oil spill. It does an excellent job cleaning up the oils & not drying out the skin or doing other harm. Rescued & cleaned up animals caught in this oil spill can be released (in a suitable environment) shortly after cleanup provided of course they are healthy.
So... I used Dawn soap on my dog. Washed the application areas, rinsed her off well. She was fine within an hour (not lethargic, no more vomiting, stumbling, shaking, etc) Of course I brought her to the vet after and she was fine. Vet wanted to "try" Revolution (another product here in Canada same purpose). Nope! Sorry!
After seeing that, I won't put anything like that on my animals again! That was flippin scary!
I was using the product as a preventative (as advised by my vet) not because my animals had fleas or ticks. I've never had any major issues with fleas or ticks. Hope I never do. I think though the products to prevent fleas/ticks are scarier than the bugs themselves.
Thank you so much for getting the warnings about these products out there! Many people think because they are prescribed by the Vet, that they are "no questions asked" safe. Ask questions!!
Used to have vet administer revolution to cats regularly. The one became immuno compromised, another started to as well. Seasonal allergies, runny nose. Forward ten years. We got a flea prob now, using Vantage. Most stores sell this. Works ok. Brewers yeast dusted lightly over the fur scares bugs away too. In areas pets can't go sprinkle baking soda with table salt, bugs will become dehydrated to death. Lol. Any, soap and water bath removes and downs fleas too. Prevention is a good idea.
My dog got sick on Advantage Multi. He had a lot of problems with it. Went through a complete shed. Right after finishing the spring shed. Not what is suppose to happen. Didn't want to be petted or brushed any more. Got very growly. He seemed like he had dementia. Got a bad infection in urinary areas. Could not be trusted around anyone as he was just to snarly. He really didn't know what he was doing as the stuff went to his brain and messed it up. He lost a lot of weight. Those are the things that happened off the top of my head. After the second drops is when he did the shedding thing. After the third on it was 7 days and my dog got super sick. It took way over two months before he was back to normal. I went on line to find all sorts of horror stories about that stuff. I was really angry about that one. The new stuff the Dr is talking about s also a nightmare. They even have facebook groups set up to talk about them. They are sad to read let me tell you. It isn't just seizures. Some dogs die. Even dogs foods are making dogs sick, I do scavenger hunts. Stay away from Chicken as they are fed GMO, corn, soy or anything sprayed with Round up or fed GMO feed. The stuff will accumulate in the animals body. My boy had a nasty encounter with that stuff. Anything chemical wise he reacts pretty fast. That is worse then the Advantage Multi was. He seems to be recovering. It is taking a very long time however. It to affects their minds as well. Again he got the dementia thing. An alllergic rash all over his body. Quite grouchy. A lot of the same things happened as with the Advantage multi. A number of dog foods have been tested and they found it in them. They did not test all dog foods however. So be careful with that stuff too. It kill their Gut Bacteria. Even raw feeders have found problems with chicken. That one seems to be the worst. Organic would probably be fine. Watch out for that stuff too.
@@kiethz8201 - Wow - so sorry you had this many problems with these products. Indeed pretty scary stuff. I'm afraid to try anything else. If I have a problem with fleas again, I think I'll just use a little DE. I have few places where they would like to hide. No carpets, no overstuffed fluffy furniture (and I have a steamer I can kill off nearly anything with), bedding and such I can put through an extra hot dryer session if needed. My one dog reacts very bad to fleas so I will know if he even has one.
I make my own dog food now. I don't often use chicken but I do use it. Pasture raised organic chicken is stupid expensive where I am. I'd have to stop eating myself to buy it lol. Not many choices in this small town to shop (1 grocery store) so would have to book time off work, hire a dog sitter & travel to get less expensive stuff. Not the easiest thing to plan due to it being winter here and the roads being unpredictable. When I get a decent price on meat & veggies, I buy a bunch of it, make a giant pot of stew then can it for my mutts. Hopefully I can find a source closer to me that is not going to force me to re-mortgage my house lol..
@@tammy-lynnstewart5677 I had to put mine on a raw diet. I just buy the stuff at the grocery store, when it is on sale. I cut it up and stick in the freezer. I stay away from the chicken. That was in the dog food that made him sick. I doubt if there was any real chicken in that stuff. He is on Probiotics, Detox herbs made into teas, Vitamin C is really important. Eggs are a good thing for dogs. Even the shells in the event you have a bone shortage. I give that in between if I run short of bones. They have lots of goodies in them for bone health. Golden Paste is great stuff. That is part of his detox. Dr. Jones got me into that one. His advice has been very helpful. My boy is healing slowly. It only took about 1 week for him to fall apart. I will keep away from dog foods for a long time to come. I am so glad I have a freezer. I also have some friends that give me meat for him so that helps a lot. I get the expensive part for sure. Round Up has cost me a fortune and the health of my baby. Not too impressed with it at all. If you have any farmers around maybe you could get some right from them. I am going to be looking into that very soon myself. Good luck. We all could use some of that these days.
I would try RAW meat (Organic whenever possible), Natural food, then COCONUT OIL (UNrefind, Organic) just giving to dog as is with food ; a couple of TBL SPNFL in liquid when warm or solid form when chilly weather. It works wonders to fight the cognitive/dementia symptoms for human & dogs in my experience.
COCONUT OIL (UNrefined, Organic) is cheap especially comparing to VET's cost.
Also, there are some UA-camrs who feed DEHYDRATED meat fm store for convenience.

I got some last week that was really bad smelling. It was so bad till I had to cover it up after I rubbed it off my dog. She wouldn't go to sleep I had to cover her back up with a wet towel. I couldn't breathe myself finally I just got up and gave her a bath. I've been using 1 cup of water and 1 cup of vinegar on her. Thank you for posting you videos for us.

Our dogs' vet talked us into giving them Trifexis... I was apprehensive but he said he used it with his dogs and had no problems. My boy began having random grand mal seizures. In my ignorance it didn't occur to me then yet that when the package says you ought not handle the medicine it was 1 red flag. When it causes anything daring to drink your dog's blood to almost instantly die, red flag 2. So what is it doing to their blood? Making it toxic! This and "trusted" pet food brands. Then more meds for seizures and then meds to help the anemia caused by these toxins and more meds to quell the nausea from the cantaloupe sized tumor we discovered he had. His death devastated our family and more so because we should have known better, but we trusted our vet. Please, if ANYTHING good could possibly come from my dog's passing, let it be that we all make the effort to educate ourselves and not just take your vet's word for it. Maybe not every dog will meet the fate mine did but it's our responsibility as pet parents to do right by them. I can never forgive myself for my ignorance and my dog's suffering

@LE REDDIT COMMANDER The synthetic flea/tick/heartworm vet medications you're putting on or giving to your dog are pesticides that are highly toxic. If you insist on giving them to your dog as pest & heartworm preventatives, I strongly suggest doing so ONLY during hot months, and at every 6 weeks vs every 4. Also, prior to dosing, give your dog milk thistle (or the vet Rx equivalent Denamarin) for 2 weeks, and another 3 weeks following. Have your dog's liver enzymes tested annually or bi-annually to ensure proper function.
@@EllieLove21 - so give my dog the milk thistle NOW, then the medication as scheduled, and then end the “hot month treatment” with milk thistle, or should i give it to them every time i give my dog her treatment? Also, what’s your suggested recommended dosing?
@@chrisknowles5358 I use the prescription Denamarin which I get from my vet to support my dog's liver. Dosing is based on the dog's weight. I can't suggest dosing if you buy a different formula of milk thistle, but you can always check articles by Dogs Naturally magazine (or other sources).

I use Triphexis for protection against heartworms, internal parasites, and fleas. Usually around June, I put my dog on a week of Denamarin (milk thistle) before dosing with Triphexis. I continue the Denamarin for another 5-7 days. Repeat this process every 4-6 weeks. Flea medication contains pesticides, and it's hard for our pet's livers to filter. Therefore, to minimize the toxin load I only give my Chihuahua Triphexis from June to October when fleas are the worst. This gives his liver a break during cold months.
@@chrisknowles5358 What does the milk thistle do and how much? I do everything holistic but kicking myself now because I caved and gave to my dogs. I live in a high flea tick area and dogs are outside and walk the woods a lot. No my little Papillion is having tremors. I cant even get vet to acknowledge that's what it is.

Thanks for talking about this, it needs to be more carefully considered. Bathing can go a long way for flea control, and food grade diatomaceous earth is great too. And vacuuming! Make sure to carefully dispose of your vacuum bags to avoid fleas coming back! Thanks so much for your video!!!
I use Borax around the house. I put in the cracks, under base boards etc where the dogs cannot get at it, but where fleas might go to hide. In powder form it is not good for pets. Mixed with hot water for scrubbing it is fine.

This is crazy because I just spent hundreds of dollars for nexgard for my two maltese dogs this week!! I had no idea about this and my vet did not say anything. Now after watching this I will NOT be giving it to them. You are NOT cynical, you have common sense which is rare these days, lol. I live in Florida so need a preventative and am going to order Dr. Karen Becker's natural flea and tick remedies from her website. You and Dr. Becker are two of the top vets in the entire world as far as I am concerned. Thank goodness for the internet and how much free helpful info is put out there for pet parents.

I used revolution on my 4 lb. Maltese yesterday and she's having a worse reaction than normal. on the 2nd day she usually acts like she's not feeling great but now she's shivering, lethargic and not herself at all. I worked for a vet for years I've seen heartworm disease, I've seen feces ravaged by tapeworm from fleas and I don't want her to go through any of that but this is scaring the shot out of me. she's tiny already for her breed at just 4 lbs. full grown and I just don't know what to do. did you figure out something that 100% works I can't risk heartworm with her but I don't waa n't to poison her to death either
The Last Unicorn, I live in a super hot climate and we have a lot of fleas. I was about to top up on the flea tablets, now I’m terrified. I have not purchased more and now my dogs have fleas and they’re itching. I can’t bath them more than once a month, for dry skin reasons. What do I do? :( I’m helpless and so are they.

I have been a follower of yours for several years. I live in Greece, in an infested area 3 months of the year, where we have cases of erhlichiosis and I only use natural remedies. It's been 9 years since my dogs had a chemical flea medicine and 7 since they had a vaccine or chemical wormer, and they are doing fantastic.

My vet blatantly told me NOT TO WORRY about giving my 13 yr old dog beagle mix Credelio. We have bad fleas in Ca. and my dog already has myoclonic neurological symptoms. I wish I hadnt bought this $120.00 box because yes, my common sense was telling me not to. Thanks for the verification Dr Jones.

Thank you so much for such good information Dr. Jones. I don't use those chemicals on my dogs. My dogs have never had a seisure. I use essentail oils mixed with vinager and water. I make sure the dogs are clean. Make sure the house is clean too.

Thank you for posting this. Something else people should know is that the reactions in the animals seems to be more severe the longer the "treatment" continues. Subjecting your pet to enough poison to kill fleas for three months can seem harmless the first time. But many of the reported deaths occur at month 18, after multiple exposures. My assumption is that the poison builds up in the system, and continues to overlap, creating more and more damage. A couple of things to look up before you give this to your pet: the studies by the pharma company for at least one of these medications stops immediately prior to what would be the third dose (possibly because that is when they know they'll get the worst results), and the same company had this particular medication banned in the UK recently (source: café pharma - a sales rep blog for the pharmaceutical companies). Please research anything you put into your pet (or any loved one for that matter, especially one who cannot speak up for themselves and refuse it), and always assume the statements on the box are downplayed. Sometimes because they simply don't know the long term effects yet. I almost gave the medication I am referencing to my sweet little guy a couple of years ago. After extensive research, I was shocked at how much information was out there, yet they could still look veterinarians in the eye and tell them this was safe for their customers. To anyone who has lost a dear pet to these medications, I am so sorry. If this post can help even one person decide against these medications, I am grateful.

I have given my dogs Comfortis before, with no side effects, but you grabbed my attention when saying how hard it is to kill these pesty ticks and fleas and it makes sense that it would take something harsh to kill them. So, I think frequent baths in the summer and daily check for ticks may be my new normal. Thank you kind sir, and please continue doing what you do.
Comfortis caused seizure activity, vomiting, and lethargy in my dog 6 years ago. He is safe and healthy now.

@@ritabryant1516 Unfortunately my doggie contracted mange the year after that so he is on Advantix preventative. Luckily no side effects, no fleas, ticks or mange. Will E will be 8 next month, he's a 70 lb lab mix, very healthy and happy! He runs around on our land and loves to roll in goodness knows what, so we have to keep him safe. I do use garlic & yeast tabs (good for fleas), salmon oil for his skin. Diamataceous earth rubbed in the fur also deters fleas, you can spread it around your house too, all natural and safe even if ingested! Good luck!!

My mini Dachshund died after giving Simparica and Endogard he died of IMHA 2 months later, not just neurological. He reacted the day he was given the two together and by February something was off, by the end of February he was very sick his red blood count was down to 9.. he passed on the 4th of March. I lost y Assistance Dig at less than 3 years of age. I beat myself up daily I knew about Bravecto but I did not know about Simparica. I cry daily.

Thank you for this. My twelve year old, 14 pound terrier took Bravecto for a number of years without side effects until last May when she had a terrible reaction that included severe shaking and vomiting and night agitation and the shaking and night agitation went on for about one week. Yes, it’s true, giving one chew for three months of coverage was really convenient for me and it did a great job of killing almost all of the ticks, but as you said in your video, if that medication kills ticks, what is it doing to your dog? I called my vet and reported the incident to Merck, but truthfully, no one seemed that interested in my experience. We live on twenty acres of woods with a fairly large invisible fence area so it’s almost impossible to keep our dog from her daily explorations and thus remains a tick magnet. I am using a combination of Vectra 3D topical medication now and a tick check daily because we have noticed that the Vectra 3D seems to allow ticks to get on my dog from her head to her underbelly. I hate ticks but would never, ever give my dog Bravecto again after the experience we had. Thank you!
I've been using NextGard for over a year. I have 5 dogs. A large brown lab mix. A Shih Tzu mix. Two Maltese mix. One Terrier mix.
I purchased a six month supply for the large dog. This dosage is good for dogs from 60-121 LB.
I first cut it in half and give the big dog that dosage. I then cut the other half in quarters and give each other dog a dose.
We have a lot of ticks in central Arkansas, so NextGard has been a savior. Attached ticks are usually dead by the time I find them. They are removed without difficulty.
None of the dogs have shown any reaction to the NextGard, but I don't give this dosage once a month. I usually wait three months before giving another dose for continued protection. This seems to have worked for protection without any side.

My maltese dog was really healthy and happy and every on and off I gave her Nexgard Spectra but not every month, up to the point I had to go on holiday and left her wit my husband. before I go I gave her one dose and she did not have any side effect and 6 week after my husband gave her another one but a day after she started shivering and few days after she vomit 7 times for 5 hours and the vet said she just had slight gastritis nothing to concern! she was really lethargic but a week after suddenly she could not walk anymore.
we took her to the vet and done ultrasound, and X-ray but nothing found. her blood test showed there is high level of acid in her blood. so we took her to the specialist and she had MRI and CFS which showed some abnormalities in her brain and they diagnosed her as Meningoencephalomyelis of unknown origin (MUO), I explained to the specialist about the nextgard spectra but he keep saying it is not related at all and he believes her problem is autoimmune illness.
so I wonder what is your opinion on this, could it be the nexgard or i am just paranoid about it?

This was a calm and essential rant. My cat died from neurological damage from a popular flea and tick medication sold by my vet. As soon as I put it on him, he had a bad reaction and only got worse, developing seizures.

Would love to know as these vet meds and shampoos are all I know to use...I purchased flea collars as an alternative to the meds and read the label it said "known to cause cancer in the state of California" wow I was shocked and I just couldn't wrap that around my dogs neck so I returned them all...Could you please let us know the safer alternatives? Vets here in US push these drugs so hard. I always refuse, opting instead to use natural sprays which aren't 100% effective...then I check and comb when we get back in the house as a secondary measure. Surely, it's more work, but I'd rather have a healthy dog!
Olive Murray, I live in a super hot climate and we have a lot of fleas. I was about to top up on the flea tablets, now I’m terrified. I have not purchased more and now my dogs have fleas and they’re itching. I can’t bath them more than once a month, for dry skin reasons. What do I do? :( I’m helpless and so are they.

@@xoxohayaati Look for an essential oil spray for dogs that contains cedarwood, lemongrass, lavender, almond oil and coconut oil. The book 50 Essential Oil Recipes is excellent for teaching how to create your own flea & tick repellent. Apple cider vinegar is also good to keep insects away. Mix a 1:1 solution of ACV and water. If you need to bathe your dogs more often, use an all natural shampoo that contains oatmeal. Tropiclean Spa dog shampoo is what I use, and every ingredient is natural and 100% safe. Good luck 🐕

Hi Dr Jones, great topic. we use a combination of a mint type spray year round plus during the summer months we apply revolution product every other month (may, july sept) so as not to be too toxic. Appreciate your thoughts regarding this approach thanks

Thought I was going to lose my 12.5 y.o. Foxhound 4 mos. ago after my vet suggested Credelio chewable.
1 week on Credelio, Max became lethargic, not much strength in his back legs, just flopping down when he laid down, no appetite. I attributed his symptoms to the 30 day Doxycycline he was on for recent diagnosis of Anaplasma; from Advantix 2 not protecting my boy after 12.5 years on it. Product not the same after Elanco bought Advantix 2 from Bayer. I didn't realize Bayer sold their pet division until i had to call customer service, which wasnt good.
Was told Doxy would be hard on him, so figured it was the Doxycycline; until I gave him month #2 of Credelio.
I questioned vet prior to dose 1 about the neurological warnings on the box & was told he hadn't seen any problems. So I gave Max his first dose and saw issues creeping in by week 2 but attributed it to the Doxy.
Month 2: Doxy was done, so I gave Max his 2nd dose Credelio and he got worse; barely eating, lost 7 lbs. in 2 months, almost no strength in his back legs, still lethargic. At that point, I called vet told him No more Credelio, that we need to find another solution ie. Topical. I was scared my Max wouldn't recover from the Credelio.
Vet tried to talk me into another chewable like Simparica, Trifexis, Bravecto. After reading up on the alternatives, told vet absolutely no way because Vet said Topicals won't give the coverage needed as Credelio would. I said Max isn't going on another F&T chewable. After more research on topicals, I found Vectra 3D from my vets online pharmacy and Max has no problems now on #2 application of Vectra 3D.
Today, he's a happy, healthy and very vocal Foxhound with his normal voracious appetite, who's back to jumping on the couch and chasing squirrels in his backyard.
THANKS- this info is gold and I can tell you sincerely care. My takeaway is that zero RX pills for fleas and ticks and maybe a homemade safe topical spray might be the way to go- along with vigilance, regular grooming, washing bedding often, etc. Do you have an issue with people using Intercepto*? Also, if a dog is in between dosages by weight by about a pound, she the dog take the larger or smaller dose?
Would have been nice if you had also discussed any natural treatment for tics. Live in Kentucky and it's a real problem.

She immediately went into a severe seizure in 2011. So that’ was super scary. The vet at ER said , it shouldn’t be sold ever ,innocent people are killing their animals every single day.

So i live in an area where tics are everywhere we are an active family, in the woods nearly everyday! This is my family's first dog, hes still a pup only had him for 3 months. Found multiple tics on him already and yes it came from a vet! So I switched to NextGuard I was informed of a very slight chance of the side effects, but told that its my best option for our situation. Hes been on it for 2 weeks now no side effects yet an no tics either YET! I LOVE our dog an do everything I can to make him as happy an healthy as I can treat him as my child ... I wouldn't want to give him this if its really bad for him, But limes disease is a very real thing here. Yeah, ticks are pesky creatures. There are dogs that react terribly with these medications. I understand it’s necessary for areas with high infestation. Maybe you can try alternating the tick medication you are currently using and some of the natural repellents in this playlist then see how it goes. I use the chew version of Sentinel every 2 months during summer, and nothing at all during the winter months. We live in Brisbane, Australia where ticks and fleas are plentiful during the hot humid summer months. Am going to try some natural homemade sprays to cut back on those chemical products even further.
That's very good you're not dosing during winter months! Try giving flea/tick/heartworm meds every 6 weeks instead of every 4. And I suggest adding a liver supplement such a milk thistle during dosing months.

Thank you for the video. I have a background in biology and I have 2 GSD's and 2 cats. I do not have an issue with fleas and ticks on my animals which they do not believe. My vet et al always has an issue with the fact that I continue to refuse purchase of their preventative even though I live in a tick "hot zone". I have them examined yearly, vaccinated, checked for heartworm and taking the preventative. They try to push the flea/tick preventative at every visit and I continually decline. The last time I was there they remarked that it is only a few dollars per month. Ignoring clinical signs but pushing the preventative seems like malpractice.
What do you use?

I get it that our dogs if given a full battery of immunization are protected for a long, long time and DO NOT need boosters every year. Thank ful for holistic measures to control fleas, and ticks; don't want to poison my dogs any longer with the powerful drugs that go on topically or are given orally. Done with that. @@despinachristakis1485 check your dog regularly, coconut oil kills fleas, washing and grooming your dog regularly and vacuuming /cleaning your house regularly, keeping your lawns and gardens mowed /maintained all keep fleas and ticks at bay.
Just a question I had been giving my dog Revolution but every time the vet would apply it he would be just rolling around on the floor at the vet clinic itching. He had no other symptoms just itching. Is that still a allergic reaction? The vet I had my dog with said it was completely normal but I have my doubts about it.

The flea and tick stuff my vet has used on my pup was that Revolution flea and tick stuff i don't know if this is anything to worry about but moments after they applied the treatment he was rolling around on the floor in the clinic and itching and scratching i wasn't sure if that is normal or if he was experiencing a allergic reaction to the treatment. What do you use? My vet highly recommended credelio for mine. She does have fleas and he thinks it may have caused her slight ear infection she had, but I’ve never had to give her flea meds before except once but that was years ago.

Dr, does simparica fall under the same category & should it be avoided?
I live in Atlanta and I had to start my 15 YO lahasa apso on symparica, because the fleas were exceptionally horrible this year. No side effects but I could tell she didn’t feel well for a few hours after giving it to her. I had been using natural methods for years, I’ve tried everything under the sun and nothing is 100% effective. I stopped in November because the cold weather seemed to kill most of them.
I believe it's best to use it only when necessary (some sort of last remedy). When the ticks are under control, better get them off the meds.
Here's what I do..Currently looking into natural remedies though.
Ive used nexgard in the past..butonly a half a dosage, every other month..for only 4 months during hte hottest parts...and works VERY well..and much lower dosage, which works excellent.
I'm out of it now though, so I think this time around I will try natural remedies.
I'm really considering colorado Eco-flea Garlic based preventative.....

Here in the UK Ivermectin wormer is rarely used in dogs as it known that some breeds (particularly border collies and some other 'herding' breeds) have a genetic imbalance which makes them likely to experience adverse nervous system effects (known as Ivermectin toxicity) and some border collies died years ago after being given empty ivermectin horse worming paste tubes to play with at a stables.
Caution advised for all potent medications that are taken by mouth for pets...
Hi ! I too am grateful,for this info. Thank you! Only I need a little more about effects on cats. It’s summer here in Ca now and am mommy to 4 all rescued fixed and chip ID’s. We have a cat door , and 4 litter boxes 3 inside 1 out side, how ever a new stray has been hanging around.Its very skittish of people,however it has learned to sneak in to eat our cat food,and even finds a spot to hide inside which upsets our own.plus it’s a fighter. I had to coax it out one day recently so was able to touch it,omg it was so gritty! I’m thinking flea eggs? or plus mites? So I grabbed a flea treatment and got it on back of head/neck area before releasing it back out side.that same day I treated my own as well, one of them now has patches of fur missing in back of head where I placed treatment, does this mean he is allergic ? We have used in past but may be a different brand? Sorry so long but after becoming aware of risk to our pets has any one else notice a big increase in advertising! I have of at least 2 on list! found this vid after spending 4h overnight at the emergency vet clinic, due to ataxia, convulsions, head tilt, involuntary unrination, tremors, and general loss of muscle control/balance... started 8h after giving him his monthly nexgard. he’s 7mos... and he’s thrown up before after taking it, but never had this reaction.
crazy thing is that this vet never even suggested it might be nexgard. after doing bloodwork, suggested he needs an mri...
I have a neurologist appt tomorrow. but personally i’m convinced after reading and watching yt vids on the subject, that it’s due to nexgard.

Thank you for your video! I live in central Texas. I recently spent 100s of dollars going to a “holistic” vet clinic call Westridge. They prescribed my 1 year old mini labradoodle nexgard for 24-60 pound dogs and heartgard for 1-25 pound dogs. She weighed 24.7 wearing her thick harness. I was surprised when I saw the nexgard is for 24-60 pound dogs. Big weight range and I would of felt better if my dog was given the dosage for smaller dogs! Any advice since my dog sleeps in my daughter’s room and I don’t want to expose my children to any fleas and ticks. Maybe better brands? I read interceptor doesn’t have a big weight range. I still use k9avantii 2 for all my dogs, as well as a cheaper version of heart guard, but this time i give the k9avantix my chiweenie had some scratching and shakes her head like her ear is bothering her and she didnt do it before and has no fleas.

I agree! I live in mid Missouri and this is a high infected tick area. I only give it to my dog during spring and summer, when the infestation is at its highest. But I wish I didn't have to. I've tried oils natural sprays but that didn't work. Any other suggestions?

As someone who was diagnosed with "Lyme Disease" I can say if you're dog is not having side effects I believe it may be worth it.

Hello, my dog has a history of epilepsy but nothing super concerning, maybe one every few month. 2 weeks ago he took Bravecto as prescribed by his vet because we noticed some fleas. He began having cluster seizures, 9 seizures in a couple of days, and had to be hospitalized to stop them. Thankfully he has not had any more in the last 3 days since he left the hospital. He’s currently on medication which he started this week and being monitored. I am certain that it was the Brevecto that caused this sudden change. Can this continue affecting him in the long rung or did his body simply have a reaction and is now calming down? Also, is there any form of detox or vitamins that can help him metabolize the Bravecto faster and remove it form his system? Any help is greatly appreciated. I don’t understand how the vet prescribed this to us knowing the dangers and pre-existing condition. Thank you!!

As a professional dog groomer I felt extremely uncomfortable when the retailer that I worked for started encouraging us to sell and apply topicals to dogs that we groomed. I wouldn’t mind doing applications if it was proscribed by a vet and provided directly by the pet parent as the dog was checked in, but the idea of a groomer recommending and suppling a flea medication is dangerous and unethical. After many policy changes I decided it was time to change employers. As a groomer, yes we may notice things that don’t seem normal like lumps, ear drainage and skin issues, however we can’t diagnose or recommend anything to treat a pet, not even coconut oil on dry skin, we can only refer the pet parent to see a vet or specialist.
