this is why working in fast food is so difficult sometimes, we as employees don't have the time and resources to make the food actually look like the picture, especially when we are set to a speed standard and we have to have your food out the window in 60 seconds. There are TONS of people who complain about their food not looking like the picture and they want refunds or they want us to remake it and make it look like the sandwiches on the menu. "Ma'am I'm sorry but if i made it look like the picture it wouldn't be edible!" As a manager of 8 years I've had to deal with this a lot and it's frustrating...

This reminds me of when I was living in Japan. Many restaurants have a display in the front full of plastic or wax duplications of their food. Being American (and used to these advertising hacks) I was shocked that the food I received was as beautiful as advertised. The same mostly held for McDonald's, Burger King, etc. The food wasn't squashed and sloppy looking like I'm used to, but matched the menu pictures. 🤯

“It’s not edible now!” It’s food styling for photos, it’s all about aesthetics. The food has to look good for hours while they try get the best photo/video. Food styling and making fake food is honestly an art form and it’s so interesting

@@Kruppt808 - what? The reactors are selected from auditions. It's not so much about looks, but more about how they are in front of a camera. They want people who are comfortable talking and reacting in front of a camera crew. Someone who appears natural and not faking it or playing a character. The last thing they want is someone who freezes up and say nothing while filming.

for people saying this is fake, well it isn't. Of course the technique will vary depending on the photographer but the main idea for these tricks are true since photo shoots take hours to do and you don't want things to melt, move or fall. And if you say they should advertise that well you saw the video and they showed the real version so would you be okay and totally on board if a company sells you something like that?? All flat, melted and messy?? Don't think so...besides it's 2020 y'all should know by now that marketing is about persuading a customer even if it's not true...and that comes from someone who's studying that

They usually pick the pizza up and it stretches and then it cuts to a different camera angle and they replace the fake with real pizza and eat it

Alot actually do "eat" the fake or modified food for commercials. In between takes they typically spit in a bucket that's out of camera view. Unfortunately some people instinctively chew quick and swallow so they get sick from it afterwards, especially with movie actors doing long shots with fake food and accidentally swallow bits throughout the takes.
This is legit what they do. When I was little my mom acted like it was some huge deal for me to be in commercials (never a goal of mine) and most the ones I landed were for food for whatever reason lol. The scariest is burgers. There are toothpicks and random sharp things put into burgers, and they hand it to you and if you bite down even a centimeter off of where you're supposed to, you get stabbed in the mouth

I mean, I have seen pizzas that are stretchier than what they showed. And I mean, sprite is extremely fizzy for like 5 minutes, and not to mention that it looks like they purposely smashed the whipped cream, bruh. And some cereal does float, they don’t need the glue. The tampons one is just unrealistic, I mean, some foods do steam but that’s because of moisture, burgers are unlikely to steam because they usually toast the bun so moisture comes out of it so it wouldn’t even steam
My cousin is a food artists and he showed me these aren’t real, I joke not, he was able to recreate these without using these BS “tricks”

Some of these tricks are used in theater as well. The one play I was in needed a whip cream pie for a scene but whip cream melts. So we used shaving cream.

Yeah, it's just a "cheap" marketing tactic to get people to buy your product. Surprisingly sometimes other items, such as technology, or essential items are props as well. Some companies make a "Special" advertising version of the product, most of the time they don't actually work.
