Hmmm interesting! I'm learning that scales presented *before* chords rather than after tends to cause a roadblock. Seems like that might be what happened with you. Perhaps by recontextualizing those scales you can find that previous enjoyment and even enhance it!

I did a year or so about 30 years ago - scales were the only thing I enjoyed/most musical I ever got with piano.
